When Holden Motor Workswas Established

The decision was made by the Holden family to start Holden Motor Works and make cars for Australia.

The decision

Cars never used to be around Australia there was only horse and carts to get around it took a couple of minutes or hours to get to placers.

The Outcome

In 1885 James Alexander decided to make a company to build cars.

This decision happened because it is faster to get around in a car rather than a horse and cart and people that need to get to places in a hurry can get there quickly.

When Edward and Henry were deciding to build a car Edward and Henry had to learn how to build things so Henry tried to get a big area to build and Edward would go somewhere to study on to build a car. This decision affected people because elderly people would not have known how to drive a car.

The history of Holden dates back to 1856 when it started as a leather goods business in South Australia. The person that ran the business was James Alexander. Holden’s V6 Engine plant is located in Port Melbourne, Victoria. It opened in 2003 at a cost of $400 million dollars.

Holden is one of GM's nine global design centers responsible for vehicles such as the Holden Commodore and Chevrolet Camaro.

Holden has built more than seven million vehicles and more than 10 million engines for local and overseas sale. More than 780,000 Holden Vehicles have been sent around the world to represent Australia.

Australia was changed from it because there are lots of people that are driving cars in Australia. In Australia there are different types of cars brands like Holden, Ford, BMW, Audi and Mercedes.

The Consequences

Also now in Australia there is car racing and they is Formula racing and they race around the world, and V8 Supercar they have Holden, Ford, Mercedes and BMW, and the V8’s race around Australia.

This has changed Australia because some people have not grown up to know how to drive a car and then when they are older they only take a bus, tram etc.

This has changed Australia because they are making different types of cars that they are inventing new things like an electric cars and they are putting technology in cars as well.

They have changed a lot of laws in Australia because there is people that drive very fast on the streets so now there’s a law if you speed on the roads you will get a fine from the police.

1905 Edward Wheewall entered the business and he was a son of James Alexander.

1908 Edwards father Henry decided to see different cars move to different countries.

1917 Edward and Henry meted up with the Dodge brother’s dealers in Sydney to come up with a design of a car.

November the 18th 1921

Henry James died at the age of 67 so Edward took his father’s place as chairman.

March 1931

Edward was put chairman and Holden were joined managing directors.

1936 The Government wanted an all Australian built car but they had to pay a lot but they had to wait for the war to finish.

1953 The first car that was made was FJ Holden. It was a American made car the bar on the front is a tooth front bar the car looks a bit bold.

Timeline

It takes 16 hours to walk from Mill Park to the City and it takes 20 minutes by car. Holden has been going for 30 years.

Special fact

I think this idea was good because now farmers can grow Vegetables and we can get the Vegetables to the shops quicker and faster than a horse and cart, the decision was good because people can get to work on time and it won’t take them long to.

My Reflection

I think that building a car was a right decision because people are getting in cars to drive and Australia has made a car so I think it was a good decision. In Australia it was a good decision because people that drive a car can get to work on time and not be late because they had to wait for the horse and cart.
