Good afternoon, and welcome to WaltonLane for today’s Sussex County FAIntermediate Cup 2nd Round fixtureagainst Rustington.We extend a warm welcome to thevisiting players, officials and supporters,and to today’s match referee,Jonathan Dale, from Buckingham.Today is a re-match of the SouthernCombination Division Two fixture thattook place at Jubilee Avenue lastweekend and resulted in a pleasing four-nil win to maintain our 100 percent startto the season.However we still have some way to go toepitomise Rustington’s own success from2006/07, when the club went an entirecalendar year undefeated – the finalgame of a quite remarkable run ironicallya 2-0 victory at home to us, which alsosaw the Sky Sports camera’s inattendance. They went on to seal the(then) Division 3 title.Talisman, Marco Giambelardini foundthe net twice on Saturday to take histally to 14 from eight league starts,although it took us until the 36th minuteto break down the hosts through JakeLafferty – and that’s how it stayed untilfifteen to go, when Marco’s first easedthe the nerves, before adding another.Bradley Miles added a bit of gloss to thescore with a fourth six minutes fromtime.While Rustington have struggled forLeague form in struggling at the wrongend of the table so far, they announced
the return of Jon Tucker as managerearlier this week, making a speedy returnto the dugout having only left Wick lastmonth.Tucker comes with good pedigree havingalso managed Pagham in the PremierDivision, so will no doubt have one or twoideas up his sleeve to get his tenure off toa positive start.The SCFA Intermediate Cup is one wehave never won, having been beaten inthe final on two occasions – one of whichironically against Rustington in theirtreble-winning campaign of 2004/05.Today’s winners will travel to Mid Sussexside, Polegate Town (near Eastbourne) inthe last 32, with home games in the last16 and quarters making for a realincentive to progress this afternoon.Since the last notes, Danny Mullen hastaken the decision to step down of thereserves, who are continuing theirlearning curve in a very competitiveWyvern Combination East Division thisseason.We would like to pass on our thanks toDanny for all his efforts in running theside since the start of 2015/16, in what isone of the most challenging roles at theclub.As such, we now have an opportunity foran aspiring coach to take on and progressthe reserves – please contact us:[email protected] if you’re interestedwho or know someone who might be.Please note should today’s game be levelat the end of 90 minutes, a period of 30minutes extra time will be played (twohalves of 15 minutes each), with penaltiesto follow if the sides are still level.Bar and kitchen will be open forrefreshments, with scores on the TV –and the England v Malta World CupQualifier on from 5pm!Enjoy the game and thank you for yoursupport!

Two late goals from top scorer, MarcoGiambelardini, finally rid a Robin’sside of any lingering nerves and sealedanother win to further extend theirearly season lead at the top of theDivision two table - at the expense ofa Rustington side struggling to findany sort of form at the moment.Bosham started brightly and after onlyeight minutes Giambelardini gotthrough a static defence but put hiseffort wide of the post whenseemingly easier to score.Bosham were missing the quality ofGraeme Dowden to call upon for thisgame so the starting line-up changeda little with Louis Bell released upfront to utilize his pace and BradleyMiles restored to the midfield to snuffout any hopeful attacks by the blues.Playing against the stiff breeze wasawkward and Bosham struggled tomake any serious in roads in the firsthalf but, just after the half hour theirtenacity was rewarded when JakeLafferty finally broke the deadlock.Alex Barnes got a sight of goal andfired a stinging effort at keeper,Gareth Challen, who proceeded tofumble the effort into the path ofLafferty who needed no secondinvitation to lash the ball home.
Gavin Heater and Mike Henricks didtheir level best for Rustington to tryand find a way through for the bluesbut into the second period Boshammaintained their slender advantagedespite Rustington now starting toknock at the door a little more.Barnes brought out the best in Challenwith a wonderful strike just after thehour and then, with a quarter of thematch to go the cushioning secondgoal finally came.Rustington resilience at the backfinally gave way as Giambelardininipped through tackles and then, atthe second attempt, found the bottomcorner to extend Bosham’s lead.That seemed to knock the stuffing outof the blues and, with time againstthem, were caught out twice more asBosham stepped on the gas to seal thepoints with a flourish.First Giambelardini was expertly putthrough on goal by Ollie Gilbert andfound the net with ease, and thenBradley Miles profited from somepoor defending from a corner tonudge home at the back post, to endthe scoring at four goals to nil.With other chasers dropping pointsBosham extended their lead at the topto six points, with Roffey moving upto second with a resounding win overRottingdean, with Sidlesham andJarvis Brook losing ground after drawsat Worthing Town Leisure andCowfold respectively.
