THE RETARDED SPARK is being issued purely for our enjoyment
and for those who wish to see what our MAFCA Chapter is doing to
further the Model ‘A’ Hobby here in Quincy, Ca.
January 2017
Questions, comments, suggestions, contributions…
From the Desk of the President
The Hanamas party hosted by Rich and Holly was lots of fun, as always. A big thanks to Rich and Holly. Also, a big thanks goes to Jennifer for her fun Christmas game. We all really enjoy it and look forward to it. A reminder to everyone that it is time for dues again ($10 a couple) and 'Can' money (also $10 a couple). Please give your payments to Holly. Also be prepared to pick your month to host a 2017 event. There will not be a January meeting because Patty will be out of the country on a long vacation. We will have a brief meeting at the January brunch at Dan and Penney's house; which is another reminder. The January brunch will be hosted by Dan and Penney at their home on Saturday, January 14th, 10:30 a.m. Please RSVP to Shirley and let her know what dish you plan to bring. (I am handling that part for Penney.) The annual Soup Swap will be hosted by Jennifer and Bill again at their home on Sunday February 12th at 11:30 a.m.
Everyone have a wonder, safe Christmas and New Year

FEATHER RIVER A’S
December Events Hanamas at Rich and Holly’s The traditional Hanamas Party was a Eating and Partying
event that lived up to everyone’s expectations.
A groaning table quivered
under the weight of the
delectable foodstuffs
provided by the ladies of
the club and hosted by
Holly and Rich.
I hope Rich didn’t build that table!!!
After much food and drink it was time for the…….
I mean, What kid doesn’t like Presents?
But, in her
seasonal
authoritarian
rank as game
administrator,
Jennifer
insisted that
all gifts had
to be earned!
Jack waits with
nervous
anticipation for
the results of
the contest
while Joe
Chuckles, (in the
background) confident that
he will be the wine winner again this year
However when the dust settled and the bows and
ribbons were on the floor, everyone won.
Now if Phil got a set of spatulas and Shirley got a
3/8 drive socket set……
Well, it all came out in the wash!
Thanks
Rich and
Holly!
FEATHER RIVER A’S
December is time for the Quincy Annual Sparkle Parade
where everyone decks out their vehicles and braves the cold
to show their Christmas spirit.
Quincy Fire was
on deck with
quite a display.
It was a little
cold for
Model A’s
but there
was a lot of
other
participants
This little
trailer is
loaded with
Frosty,
Santa and at
least one
reindeer.
Maybe the kids would go back to school early if
they could ride in this bus.
(Who am I kidding?)
Thanks Joe and Heather for the
Sparkle coverage!
FEATHER RIVER A’S
A New Year's resolution is a tradition, most common in the
Western Hemisphere in which a person makes a promise to
do an act of self-improvement.
Babylonians made promises to their gods at the start of each
year that they would return borrowed objects and pay their
debts.
The Romans began each year by making promises to the god
Janus, for whom the month of January is named.
In the Medieval era, the knights took the "peacock vow" at
the end of the Christmas season each year to re-affirm their
commitment to chivalry.
The most common reason for participants failing their New
Years' Resolutions was setting themselves unrealistic goals
(35%), while 33% didn't keep track of their progress and a
further 23% just plain forgot about it.
The number one
resolution is to lose
weight.
My goal for 2016 was to lose just 10 pounds. Only 15 to go. I don't mean to brag, but I finished my 14-day diet food in 3 hours and 20 minutes. Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel. Ate salad for dinner. Mostly croutons & tomatoes. Really just one big round crouton covered with tomato sauce. And cheese. FINE, it was a pizza. I ate a pizza. How to prepare Tofu: a. Throw it in the trash b. Grill some meat November 6, 2016 was the end of Daylight Savings Time. Hope you didn't forget to set your bathroom scale back 10 pounds on Saturday night.
I find that the Gym is
always crowded in
January, lucky for me I
already don’t go!
Exercise in the
morning Before your brain figures out
what you’re doing
I wasn’t planning on going for a
run today but those cops came out
of
nowhere!
A recent study has found women who carry a little extra weight live longer than men who mention it.
And Smokey’s News Years
Resolution?
Oh, I’ll probably keep it at
1920 X 1080 like always.
Thanks for asking!
Happy New Year!
Smokey

COMEDY CORNER
Vintage Ford Humor
Two brothers, Fred and George, each received an inheritance
of $2000. They both decided that the first order of business
was to obtain a new auto. George bought the finest auto his
$2000 could buy while Fred thriftily bought a Ford Model T.
As George was headed home, he was astounded when Fred’s
Ford streaked past him in a cloud of dust. Arriving home and
seeking to “get back” at his brother, George asked, “ What
was that terrible rattling noise I heard as your car passed me
on the road?”
“Oh,” Fred replied “That was the $1600 in my pocket.”

“Mr. Cleaver, how do you account for my finding a bit of
rubber tire in the bologna I bought of you last week?”
“Madam, that only goes to show that the Ford is replacing the
horse everywhere.”
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
A motorist in cap and goggles was standing under a tree,
peering up through the branches.
“What’s the matter?” inquired a farmer, hurrying up to help.
“I was just cranking my Ford,” was the reply, “and the darn
thing flew off the handle.”

The latest improvement on the Ford is a strong horseshoe
magnet mounted in the rear axle which pick up all parts that
drop off while the car is being operated.
Another Kind of Humor The colors red, white and blue stand for freedom, until they are flashing behind you. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
A man knocked on my door and asked if I could make a small donation towards the local swimming pool, so I gave him a glass of water. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
I changed my password to “incorrect”. Now whenever I forget it, the computer will say “your password is incorrect” * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
I’m great at multitasking. I can waste time, be unproductive and procrastinate all at once.

Q. When were seat belts first fitted to a motor
vehicle?
A. In 1902, Walter Baker built the electric
“Torpedo” and broke the 100 mile per hour
barrier. None of his speed records went into any
books because Baker regularly crashed his cars.
What saved his life in all those crashes was a
plain simple shoulder harness.
