Membership Drive Kicks Off, Will Run Through June 30 With membership hovering around 115, the club has initi- ated a drive to bring in more members. The club appointed 6 teams to drive the effort: Larry Jones, Ken Brownlee, Lori Mizushima, Brad McCloud, Jim Giese, and Gregg Palmer/Reford Theobold. The team captains drafted the members of their team at the Blue Moon back on May 15. The team captains will be contacting all of their members to coordinate the effort. The top team (most members added) will be rewarded with dinner at the President’s expense, no dues for two months (dues only, not meals), and an exemption from Carnival clean- up in 2020. A photo of the draft is on page 2. Greeter Schedule: Greeters are the members who stand near the badge box and personally, and warmly, welcome everyone to the club meeting. Below is the upcoming schedule. Failure to fulfill your duties as Greeter can result in a fine, public ridicule, or worse. If you cannot honor your assigned date, it is your responsibil- ity to find a substitute. The GJ Lions presented awards to the top male & female athletes at all four area high schools last month. What began as the Joe Biggs Award for the top athlete at GJHS back in 1948 has grown into awards for eight stu-dent-athletes. Biggs was a former member of the club who died while flying his 25th mission in WWII.

Meet Nick Beightel Grand Junction native Nick Beightel is a third-generation jeweler at Thomas Hunn Jewelry. Hunn is Beightel’s grandfa-ther. Nick’s father was also once a member of the club. Nick graduated from GJHS in 2014, and has worked at Hunn ever since. He works in jewelry manufacturing, repair and sales. The Gem Institute of America has certified Nick in grad-ing diamonds as well as colored stones. He is currently work-ing on being a GIA certified gemologist. Nick played basketball in high school and in his spare time enjoys hunting, fishing and cars. Last fall, Nick married his wife Hannah from Evanston, Wyoming. They met at the jewelry store. Nick was the 2019 Rookie of the Year with $1,620 in ticket sales,

Prize Committee: Chairman Leonard Little is looking for Lions to assist in the gathering of prizes for the2020 Carnival. Please con-tact Leonard at: [email protected] if you can help. The drive to gather prizes large and small begins in two weeks. Program Committee: The next meeting of the Program Commit-tee, which schedules our weekly programs at Lions, will be June 5 from Noon to 1 p.m. at the Rockslide. Lunch is on your own. They only meet twice a year, and program 6 months at a time. If you have questions, call Shawna (970-260-3175). Members are invited to be a part of this group.
