Let’s take a look at the types of Partners and relationship channels
The purpose of this slide is to place an emphasis on the use of partners to resell PureNRG products and services. This can be used to develop a strategy for a solution for partner B2B and reselling through VARs (Value added resellers)
A question you can explore with the class is what type of platform does PureNRG need? Is it a Broker, aggregator, syndicator, composer or orchestrator of products and services using cloud computing platform services?
There is no one right answer to this scenario but this can be explored
Example Answers
• PureNRG may want a broker platform to provide their partners with a service to resell their own products and services and use PureNRG marketplace as a coomon platform.
• PureNRG may want to be an aggregator of partners to control and manage the end customer experience form PureNRG. The platform provides a common central marketplace and catalog of PureNRG products and services and partner services to support these.

The vendors listed in the columns are just examples, you can select others if preferred.
The purpose of this slide is to explore the issues around the development of comparing different cloud providers for similar cloud services.
Ask the class to spend a little time thinking about and entering comments in each box. Maybe split up into teams to do one column each. They can research the internet to get information on each vendor solution. Put a time limit to this exercise.
In this slide we have examples of IAAS and PAAS and SAAS chosen to illustrate issues around comparing ‘like with like’ cloud services and providers who may offer a range of tools and support services or additional marketplaces and templates.

Billing: Force.com free to developers.Production applications are priced primarily by storage used and number of Unique users
Scenario 3
Examining Google Apps
Python, Java based
Billing: Free for up to 500MB of storage and 5 million page views per month
More storage or bandwidth purchased by setting a maximum daily Charge divided by 5 buckets: CPU time, Bandwidth in, bandwidth out, Storage, email
Ask the class why is this an issue in cloud computing?

These are popular example of the “cloud” but there are many other examples.
+ 2.5 Billion Internet Users 2013 Representing 35% World Population
Emphasize the big shift to enterprise computing in the cloud. Highlight for example Amazon reached 2 Trillion storage Objects in its S3 service which is 100% growth on 1 year from 1 Trillion. It reported that Amazon took 6 years to reach 1 Trillion target and in the past year this has rapidly accelerated in growth.
Highlight security the risks and issues also involved , for example USB Investment research for example highlighted personal ID Theft every 79 seconds

Take a look at some of the extraordinary growth numbers. The sources are listed below this section.
- Data Growth
- 21 Exabytes per month 2010
- The size of 1 exabyte = 1 million Terabytes
- There was a prediction of an “Exaflood” in 2007 that would bring the internet to a halt. His never actually happened due to the massive expansion and interconnected architecture of networks and carriers that enabled multiple routing and switching together with rapid increases and investment by governments and industry in bandwidth capacity and network speed.
- Network Growth
- The internet network is estimated to have 988 exabytes of data in 2010
- How big is 1 zettabyte = 1000 Exabytes

CCC Professional Cloud Solutions Architect | History of Cloud Computing
- It was estimated that 161 exabytes in 2006 was the data volume of traffic on the internet globally
- Computational power Growth
- It is predicted Moore’s Law “ends in 2013”
- There was the milestone of 1 billion Transitions on chip achieved in 2010
- 16 Petaflops 1.6 million cores 2012 – Super computer (16,000 trillion flops)
- 76.8 GFLOPS GPU in A6X Apple ipad4 @ 300mhz
- Devices Growth
- It was estimated that there was 7 Billion “things” connected to Internet, this tipping point was reached in 2008, that is more than population of planet earth. It is predicted that by 2020 there will be 50 Billion “things”Smart phones, PCs, devices connected to the internet.
The convergence of data, networks, compute and devices have fundamentally changed and converged the popular Moore’s law, Amdahl’s Law and Metcalfe’s law. The result is a new kind of business computing model seen in cloud computing that exploits these three laws of massive distributed compute power, telecommunications network access and connectivity and pervasiveness of on line services.
- Moore’s Law = the number of transistors on a chip doubles every year
- Amdahl’s Law = the limit of speed of parallel processors computing is limited for the sequential fraction of the program – the size of thread in multi-threaded processing
- Metcalf’s Law = The value of the telecommunications network is proportional to the square of the number of connected users of the system
There are risks and trade-offs with every new technology development. How do these tectonic scale forwards work locally, individually and in the macro sense?
If personal data is growing, personal compute power available is growing, personal interactions and digitization of activities and resources growing, how does this change the value of those interactions? With the recent cyber security threats, how does this impact the use of cloud by citizens, private companies and governments?
The next slide we run a short video on the challenges, barriers and opportunities of cloud computing.

(1) How much data traffic is there on the Internet, will is grind to a halt? Global monthly Internet traffic In 2004 passed 1 exabyte for the first time. In 2010 it was estimated at 21 exabytes per month (source Cisco corp). Bret Swanson in 2007 coined the term exaflood for a supposedly impending flood of exabytes that would cause the Internet's congestive collapse.(Discovery Institute http://www.discovery.org/a/3869)
(2) Just how big is 1 exabyte? How big is the Internet?, bigger than humanity. There are more things connected to the internet than there are people on the planet. Think about that for a second; that’s not just smart devices or computers, it’s everything that’s connected to the internet... The tipping point came about 2008....By 2020, 50 billion “things” will be talking to the internet. What kind of things? See infographic in link. TheInternet is very different.(Source: Cisco corp)
http://techland.time.com/2011/07/20/how-big-is-the-internet-bigger-than-humanity/
(3) How big is Big data? 161 exabytes of data were created in 2006, "3 million times the amount of information contained in all the books ever written," with the number expected to hit 988 exabytes in 2010. (Source IDC, EMC Corp
(4) How is computing power increasing? When will computational power exceed the human brain?, Moores Law end in 2013. Sources in 2005 expected it to continue until at least 2015 or 2020.( http://news.cnet.com/New-life-for-Moores-Law/2009-1006_3-5672485.html) However, the 2010 update to the International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors has growth slowing at the end of 2013, after which time transistor counts and densities are to double only every three years.( http://www.itrs.net/Links/2010ITRS/2010Update/ToPost/2010Tables_ORTC_ITRS.xls) But new models emerge?
