Rangitāiki Freshwater Futures Community Group Bay of Plenty Regional Council has established the Freshwater Futures Project Team to implement the Government’s National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management in the Rangitāiki Water Management Area. The members: Alamoti Te Pou Alamoti is the General Manager for CNI Iwi Land Management LTD. He therefore represents the CNI iwi interests of eight CNI iwi including Tūhoe, Ngāti Manawa, Ngāti Whare, Ngāti Rangitihi, Ngāti Paukene, Ngāti Whakaue, Tūwharetoa and Te Pumautanga o Te Arawa. Alan Law Alan is a dairy farmer in the Thornton area who has previously been a Whakatāne Federated Farmers Chair and President of BOP Fed Farmers. Atamira Nuku Atamira is passionate about restoring the mauri of the awa. She has experience in freshwater education through her role as a Department of Conservation partnership ranger. Atamira is affiliated to Ngāti Manawa. Bill Kerrison Bill has strong connections to the Kōkopu Trust and a lifetime of experience in freshwater fish species, Taiāpure, fisheries management. Bill Clark Bill is not a resident of the Rangitāiki plains but has a strong presence in the Rangitāiki water management area. Bill is the current independent chair of the Kopeopeo Canal Community Stakeholder Group.

Cathy BrownCathy has interests in dairy and horticulture around the Whirinaki area and has a background in science. Cathy is on the trust board for the Dairy Women’s Network and has proven governance experience.

Christina BunnyChristina is a farm administrator and technician on Rangitāiki Station. Christina has a wealth of experience in environmental management, policy and planning.

Craig Rowe

Daryl ChristieDaryl has been nominated by, and represents Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Whare. He is a member and deputy chair of the Rangitāiki River Forum.

Gareth BoytGareth is a Murupara resident who is also a lecturer at the Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiarangi. Gareth has previous experience as a DOC Biodiversity Ranger.

George JohnstonGeorge is passionate about the Rangitāiki and is a current Whakatāne District Councillor (Rangitāiki Ward).

James DohertyJames was nominated by Tūhoe Tuawhenua Trust, which is a large land trust in the Ruatāhuna area. They have a strong affiliation and kaitiaki role for the Whirinaki River. James is also a Māori Advisory consultative to the EPA.

John Gibson

John is a Kiwifruit orchardist. John’s orchard is near Ngakauora creek and he is keen to see this being enjoyed by his grandchildren.

Kerry Snowden

Farmer from Lake Rerewhakaaitu area which feeds into the Rangitāiki WMA. Kerry has just recently joined the group.

Kirsty Joynt

Kirsty is a representative of Trustpower Limited.

Larry Wetting

Larry is a Galatea dairy farmer who is passionate about protecting the rivers. Larry is chair of Galatea Federated Farmers.

Linda Conning

Linda is an environmental consultant, orchardist and member of Forest and Bird. Linda is a current member of the Rangitāiki - Tarawera River Schemes Liaison Group.

Mark Ross

Mark is a member of Ngāti Hineure and Ngāti Hinerau and a trustee of the East Taupō Lands Trust.

Matt Osborne

Matt represents Fish and Game, and is a Fish & Game Officer (Eastern Region).

Matt Gow

Matt is a dairy farmer who is the vice Chair of Whakatāne Federated Farmers.

Ngapera Rangiaho

Ngapera is a very proactive member of the Patuheuheu/Ngāti Haka hapū. She is a local kaitiaki with a strong affiliation to the River. She is also an active member of several Māori land trusts within the water management area.

Nick Doney

Nick is a Galatea resident who has previously worked with Department of Conservation and as a dairy farmer.

Councillor Norm Bruning

Norm is Councillor for Western Bay of Plenty, has a keen interest in water. He is on the Rangitāiki River Forum and involved with the River Schemes in the Whakatāne area.

Robert Pouwhare

Robert has the mandate to speak on behalf of Ngāti Haka Patuheuheu in which he is the Chair. This Tūhoe hapū is based in Waiohau with a strong affiliation to the Rangitāiki River.

Steve Brightwell

Steve is a Department of Conservation staff member in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

Tom Lynch

Tom is a professional river guide and works around and on both the Whirinaki and Rangitāiki Rivers.
