Cloud Computing – Many Definitions
* On-‐demand self-‐service internet infrastructure where you pay as you go and use only what you need, all managed by a browser, application or API * Clouds will be the next transformation over the next
several years, building off of the software models that virtualization enabled
* + 100s more from experts, vendors and kids

NIST Definition of Cloud Computing
Cloud computing is a model for enabling convenient, on-‐demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications, and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction.

Is Cloud A Cure For IT Headaches?
Yes But some people seem to have security & privacy
concerns
![Page 24: Cloud computing for SMBs](https://reader034.vdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022051608/5454603faf795964498b5c99/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
Cloud Is Not Secure?
![Page 25: Cloud computing for SMBs](https://reader034.vdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022051608/5454603faf795964498b5c99/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)
Security & Privacy Concerns
* Cloud Provider’s Security Practices * Regulatory Needs * Data Ownership * Data Privacy
![Page 26: Cloud computing for SMBs](https://reader034.vdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022051608/5454603faf795964498b5c99/html5/thumbnails/26.jpg)
Mental Shift
Losing Control Trust
![Page 27: Cloud computing for SMBs](https://reader034.vdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022051608/5454603faf795964498b5c99/html5/thumbnails/27.jpg)
In Reality
* Cloud is neither more nor less secure than the traditional IT. But in the case of most SMBs, Cloud provides better security * With the loss of control, different kind of risks comes into focus * Industry best practices can help mitigate these risks. Check out Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) * Bottom Line is balancing the risks to take advantage of the clouds
![Page 28: Cloud computing for SMBs](https://reader034.vdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022051608/5454603faf795964498b5c99/html5/thumbnails/28.jpg)
Vendor Responsibility
![Page 29: Cloud computing for SMBs](https://reader034.vdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022051608/5454603faf795964498b5c99/html5/thumbnails/29.jpg)
Conclusion
* Cloud is real and maturing fast. Businesses of all sizes and shapes are going to adopt it much sooner than many expect
* Using Cloud Computing becomes a competitive advantage
* A big part of the security concerns are due to FUD but it is also critical to understand the risks and take steps to mitigate them, to take the full advantage of clouds
* Leverage the cloud but control your destiny
