AccountA paid or free service that offers to keep your data safe

Should I have a cloud account?

MicrosoftIf you have a PC then you almost certainly do. Check!

AndroidAndroid is owned by Google – so yes you do.

AppleNo choice – you do. It is called ‘iCloud’

How big is a file?• A 50 page Word document filled with text is about 10 kilobytes. ie:

500 documents for free at Microsoft• A photo is about 3 megabytes ie: 1500 for free at Microsoft• A song is about 2 megabytes ie: 2500 for free at Microsoft• A video (movie) is about 1gigabyte ie: 5 movies for free at Microsoft

Do I need any special skills?

• Absolutely not. Cloud storage is the way of the future. Hard drives are getting smaller not bigger.

• What if the Internet finishes………

• Google are about to make major changes to their cloud service, renaming it to Google ONE. This will allow up to 5 family members to use it and to share music. If interested visit: https://one.google.com/getupdates. Will include a dedicated phone number to talk to a Google expert. Cost about $2 a month.

• Microsoft are re-jigging Office 365 to allow up to 6 users of the one account. A subscription gives you 1 terabyte. About $8 a month, includes Word/Excel/Powerpoint/Outlook.

How do I sign up?• If you have a PC based on Windows 10 you have an account whether you like it or

not. Look for two little clouds in the tray.• If you have an Apple device (laptop, iPhone or iPad) you already have an account• If you have a Google (Gmail) account you already have an account

What happens if I exceed my limit?

• Nothing. You may be prompted to pay for more space – that is your choice. • You can add more space at any time.

Why even bother with Dropbox?Because it is simply the best!

Where can you look at your documents

• There has never been a security issue caused by the provider.

• Use a secure and different password for each service.

• Create folders to hold classes of documents, Photos, Music, Video, Documents. Use sub-folders to

further separate.

• Always remember to log out on a public computer.

• Tell no one your password. Learn how to password protect a document.

• Learn how to share a single document or a group of files.

• Keep a backup of everything on two services. Use an app that does it for you!
