Pipe Band Crowned World ChampionsCAPITAL REGION – The Scotia Glenville Pipe Band was recently crowned World Champions of the Novice Juvenile Division at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. Competition was stiff, but Scotia Glenville beat 25 other bands from Scotland and Canada to win 1st Prize. Of eight competitive divisions, Scotia Glenville was the only U.S. band to place first in their division. Maureen Connor, Band Director, was ecstatic, “The kids have worked so hard to achieve their goal. We are so proud to be able to represent the Capital Region and the United States by winning this honor. This moment is of ‘Olympic’ proportions to everyone in pipe bands. We are absolutely thrilled.” The Scotia Glenville Pipe Band is a private, non-profit educational organization. For more information, please visit their website at www.sgpipeband.com. For more information about the World Pipe Band Championships, please visit their site at www.theworlds.co.uk. (P)

Help From a Caring NeighborSO. SARATOGA COUNTY – When Mary came home from having a hip replacement, she found that she could not manage to do laundry. She could not go grocery shopping either. Family did not live nearby so she was relieved to have a volunteer from the Care Links’ Program of Southern Saratoga County give her a few hours each week for chores and shopping. If you would like someone to assist you by visiting, shopping, giving rides, handy-helping, or chores, Care Links can help you, too. Call 399-3262 for more information. (P)

Stop by the Library to see the ex-pansion project firsthand. Visit our website (http://meclib.sals.edu), facebook page or follow us on twitter for further informa-tion. (P)

JJJJJNNNNNRRRRR EXCAVATIONRichard Carpinello of East Greenbush said it best about JNR Excavating & Development. “I have had my share of dealings with contractors overthe years, and Joe is the most honest straight- forward person to deal with. His quality of work was above my expectations, and his price wasthe lowest of several estimates.”JNR Excavating & Development based out of Averill Park is owned and operated by Joseph Perez. Joe resides in Averill Park with his wife Paulaand their four children, Joe 11, Nick 10, Mark 9 and Rachael 6. Joe has been in the construction business for over 25 years and loves “playingin the dirt.”He started his career straight out of high school framing houses for a company in Albany. As he quickly excelled at this trade, he beganstudying and earned a degree in Engineering Science. He learned the process of constructing new homes from the site work to the finishingtouches. He then began working as a site foreman operating equipment and installing varying infrastructure (water/sewer/gas/electric).Deciding he wanted to venture out on his own, he began to buy parcels of land in Rensselaer County. He has built and developed several sub-divisions, including a 14 lot sub-division called, Sand Cherry Hill located in Brunswick and a 7 lot sub-division called, Blueberry Meadows locatedin Schodack.Joe is passionate and committed to his projects but even more so to his customers. He has always had the customer’s complete involvementthrough the entire process. “Most contractors are difficult to deal with. I feel it’s very important to keep an open line of communication frombeginning to end to ensure the customer’s complete satisfaction.” Joe goes one step further than most even after the job is done, he will followup with the customer to make sure that everything is ok, he goes above and beyond the customers’ expectations. With over 25 years of experience in all phases of home remodeling, additions, construction development, JNR Excavating & Development cando it all. Examples include new home site work, drainage/grading work, drainage to repair wet basements, leach fields, water/sewer lines, andon the development end, complete construction of new roadways including installation of all infrastructure. If you’re considering any new project, Joe will come out and meet you and provide you with a free written estimate. To speak with Joe directly, call 674-6059.

PRAYER TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN (Never known to fail)Oh, most beautiful flower of Mt. Carmel, fruitful vine splendor of Heaven. Blessed Mother of the Son of God. Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me, herein you are my mother. Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth! I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to answer me in this necessity. There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, show me herein you are my mother. Oh, Mary con- ceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3x). Holy Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Sweet Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Holy Spirit, you who solve all problems, light all roads so that I can attain my goal, you who gave me the divine gift to forgive and forget all evil against me and that in all instances in my life you are with me. I want in this short prayer to thank you for all things as you confirm once again that I never want to be separated from you in eternal glory. Thank you for your mercy towards me and mine. The person must say this prayer 3 consecutive days, after 3 days the request will be granted. This prayer must be published after the favor is granted. Thank you for favor received. J. L.

Pete Bardunias, President/CEO, the Chamber of Southern Saratoga County

Southern Saratoga CountyYour Staycation Destination

Our county is a great place for a vacation. We all know that August is Track season, but what can you do after watching the ponies? Perhaps watch some other ponies - such as at the Casino and Raceway, or (for a decidedly different variety) the Double M Rodeo in Malta, or various other equine farms. Then, stop by farms and orchards such as Bowman, Lakeside, Lindsey's, Riverview, and others for fresh produce, or Predel's Ranch in Clifton Park for a va-riety of meats and other goodies. Hayner's has ice cream to go along with freshly picked sweet corn. There are so many nearby places to eat! Next, take a ride down to the water, where various marinas along the Hudson and Mo-hawk Rivers, and inland marine service facilities cater to the boating public. Throw a line in Ballston or Saratoga Lakes, or either of our two Rivers. And don’t forget the Tugboat Roundup is coming up in Waterford on Sept 7-9. Trails and walkways wind throughout our area, passing historic sites such as Grooms Tavern or Historic Lock 19 and scenic vistas such as the Vischer Ferry Nature Preserve. For shopping, there's the malls in Clifton Park, plus interesting finds in downtown Ballston Spa, Ballston Lake, Mechanicville and Halfmoon, or at the Exit 8 Plaza (a place called Artique is a local fa-

vorite) among others. Scenic roads wind westward through Charlton, with more farms and restaurants. For history buffs, there's the Saratoga Battlefield, the XO Tower in Mechanicville, the Stillwater Blockhouse and various museums. On September 8 is the Malta 5k run. For more information and "staycation" ideas, visit southernsaratoga.org, calling 518-371-7748 or visiting the Chamber's community information center right behind the big Price Chopper at Exit 9. C'mon in and say hello, and ask for a copy of our newly issued Buyer's Guide and Directory.

Albany, NY (July 31, 2012) –Do you have a love for animals and want to support a great local cause? Join with the Gold-stein Auto Group and bring your empty bottles and cans to a Goldstein dealership and support the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society. The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society’s “Empties For Animals” campaign helps support the mission of the organization, includ-ing sheltering, adoption, education, advocacy and the preven-tion of cruelty to animals. This year’s goal is to raise $125,000, in honor of the Society’s 125th Anniversary. To reach the goal, the Goldstein Auto Group will need to collect more than 1,500,000 cans and bottles. The 2012 "Empties For Animals” campaign has raised over $46,000 during the first half of this year, an increase of $12,000 or 34% over the same period last year. The 2011 campaign raised a total

of more than $74,000 and collected 925,000 cans and bottles. Volunteers sorted all those bottles and cans, based on the originating distributor, which in turn generated $.08 per can or bottle instead of the regular $.05 redemption fee paid at stores. Monies from the program were used to benefit the more than 6,500 animals cared for by the Society in 2011. “We are very pleased to continue our partnership with the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society and support the 2012 “Empties For Animals” campaign. We would like to thank all of our custom-ers and the members of the community who have generously donated to such a worthy cause,” said Alan Goldstein, President of Goldstein Auto Group.
