OCTOBER 13TH IS M&M DAY
COME PICK UP YOUR TREAT IN THE COFFEE LOUNGE
WHILE SUPPLIES LAST
National M&M’s Day celebrates the famous colorful candy-coated chocolate morsels made by Mars
Company. You might recognize the slogans “Melts in Your Mouth, Not in Your Hands” or “Look for the ‘m’ on Every Piece.”
M&M’s were first created in 1941 by Forrest E. Mars, son of the Mars Company founder. He partnered with Bruce Murrie, the son of Hershey executive William Murrie, to ensure a steady supply of resources for M&M’s for possible shortages during WWII. “M&M” was named for “Mars and Murrie.” M&M’s were used as military rations in WWII. M&M’s signature hard-candy shell prevented the chocolate from melting.
Since then, M&M’s have expanded into a variety of flavors and types, including mini, peanut, white chocolate, and personalized. In 2016, M&M’s celebrated its 75th anniversary.
Some Fun Facts About M&M’s:
•M&M’s were originally in cardboard tubes. In 1948, M&M’s were re-packaged in brown paper pouches, its now signature packaging.
•In 1950, M&M’s were stamped with the signature “M&M” marking in black. The color later changed to white in 1954. The stamp was used to differentiate the product from cheap imitators.
•In 1960, Red and Yellow M&M’s were introduced as the M&M’s “spokescandies.”
•Between 1976 and 1987 red M&M’s had been discontinued due to public concern that Red No. 2 dye was linked to cancer. Red M&Ms were re-introduced in 1987 when Red No. 2 was found not to be carcinogenic.
•In 1976, orange M&M’s were introduced to replace red.
•M&M’s was the first candy to go to space in the 1980s.
•In the 1980s. M&M’s also went global.
•In 2004, M&Ms offered personalized message M&M’s.
•In 2008, M&M’s offered image-personalized M&M’s. M&M’s fans could upload a picture of their face or even their dog to create custom M&M’s.

ERIN MICHELLE
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 13TH
3:00 PM
GRAND BALLROOM & ON
EVTV CHANNEL 1960
At the tender age of 3, Erin Michelle developed a love for music. Having a mom as a music teacher she couldn’t help but be surrounded by it! Growing up in Oklahoma, Erin was involved in anything musical, entertaining audiences at local and statewide festivals, competing in the regional and state competitions, and volunteering to entertain at events such as United Way. All of these events proved that Erin was born to entertain. This began the journey that would lead her to Nashville. Of course there were a few stops along the way. College offered Erin a broad array of opportunities to pursue her dream of becoming an entertainer. While attending Northern OK College, Erin was able to tour London with the World Traveling Roustabouts, entertain on Carnival Cruise Ships as a featured soloist, and tour with Richard Sheldon’s Oprah a la Carte. After graduating college, Erin packed up her car and set forth on the journey of pursuing her dream! Now as a Nashville resident, Erin entertains local audiences at Tootsies, Second Fiddle, The Wildhorse Saloon, Fuel Second Ave, Dave & Busters Opening for Chris Young, and Music City Bar & Grill. Erin has also entertained sports fans by singing the National Anthem at an Oklahoma Redhawks Baseball game, a Nashville Kats arena football game, The Nashville Sounds baseball game, and a Memphis Redbirds baseball game. Most recently Erin has taken her show out on the road to entertain fans at Lucky Star Casino, Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill, The Kansas State Fair, Ballys Casino, Harlows Casino, Hard Rock Café, 4th Street Live – opening for Jimmy Wayne, and Eddy’s Attic. Erin currently spends most of her time searching for songs and preparing for her next recorded project in hopes to soon entertain audiences worldwide
Since Erin was last at Epworth Villa, she has spent time learning and jamming with Byron Berline in Guthrie at this fiddle shop.

Turns out the cutest treats?

Much better than from the store!!
Flour, sugar, eggs and some beating,
He turns into what’s just “good eating!”
Our thanks for the “kitchen” truly runs deep,

YES, WE ARE STILL SELLING FAIR TRADE
COFFEE, TEA, COCOA, AND CHOCOLATE!!
Where is everyone?? This period of "shelter-in-place", social distancing, and other precautions will be with us for quite a while. Chocolate
and a good cup of coffee or tea make things seem more tolerable! Cooler weather is also around the corner so get ready with one of our two hot cocoa mixes - one with milk in
it and the other which is dark chocolate with no milk (you provide your own marsh mellows!). Although the Fair Trade has not been set up for the monthly sales outside the Bistro, we still need your support! Let me know what you would like (contact info below) and I will deliver to Epworth. Much easier than going to a store!
We really appreciate those of you continuing to purchase our Fair Trade items. If you have not for a while, we are here for you - just call/text/email me! Contact Dave Ranek at 443-7302 (phone or text) or email at [email protected].

JUST MERCY This film is a fact-based courtroom drama that tackles the subjects of racism and the death penalty. It centers on idealistic young lawyer Bryan Stevenson who travels to Alabama to help save a wrongfully convicted man on Death Row. The story isn't surprising, but it's very effective, with clear messages of perseverance, the importance of doing the right thing, fighting hard for those who need it the most, and the problematic relationship between bigotry and justice.
