Intro: As we move deeper into the Journey to Jerusalem and to the Cross, Jesus lays down one of the core teachings: forgiveness. First Reading: Sir 27:30-28:7 This part of the Books of Wisdom, Sirach assures those who forgive others to be forgiven of their own sins as well! Second Reading: Rom 14:7-9 The Apostle Paul reminds the Roman community that whether we live or die we belong to the Lord. This is the reason why he suffered and died – for us. Gospel: Matt 18:21-35 Jesus through this parable as narrated by Matthew lays down the bottom line for forgiving one another. If God can forgive greater sins we should do no less!

Pastor Says “Thank You!” As Offertory Recovery Program
Continues to Get Responses
Father Erwin extends his heartfelt gratitude to all the parishioners who responded thus far to Faith, Hope and Courage, the parish Offertory recovery program. It continues to receive responses from parishioners as we try to fill the gap in parish income brought on Covid-19, its restrictions on Mass attendance, physical distancing, etc.
As of September 1, 149 families had returned commitment cards or responded online via the Our Lady of Grace Parish website (ourladyofgracefl.org). These families represent about 17 percent of registered parishioners. The goal of Faith, Hope and Courage is responses from 100 percent of parishioners.
Responses thus far have varied. They include offers to pray for the parish; one-time donations; new, increased and renewed weekly and monthly Offertory donations; and requests for prayers. One-time cash donations totaled $16,855.
It all started with the endorsement of the pastoral council, a letter from Bishop Parkes, announcements by Father Erwin during his homilies the weekend of August 15-16, and a continuous stream of reminders before Mass by a special cohort of eloquent parishioners. Those reminders will continue for the next few weeks.
Another team has been busy trying to reach every family that responded. These volunteers want to say “Thank You” on behalf of the Pastor and generally determine that all is well in the household or if help is needed.
Meanwhile, if you have not yet responded to Faith, Hope and Courage, please do so. If you cannot locate the card sent to you in the mail, ask a hospitality minister for one or contact the parish office, 352-746-2144. Or, to respond online, go to OurLadyofGraceFL.org, scroll down to “Faith, Hope and Courage,” click on Digital Commitment Card, and it will pop up. You also can reach Faith, Hope and Courage via a link on the parish Facebook page.
“For if we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord: so then, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.” —Romans 14:8
This is the essence of stewardship—everything we have and everything we are is a gift from God. We aren’t “owners” of anything, we are merely “stewards” of the gifts that God has given us, especially our very own lives. Pray to God, daily, and ask Him how He wants you to use the gifts He has given you.

Sunday Gospel Reflections from Bishop Parkes

Forgive Others the Way God Forgives Us
“Peter approached Jesus and asked him, ‘Lord, if my brother sins against me, how often must I
forgive? As many as seven times?” Jesus answered, ‘I say to you, not seven times but
seventy-seven times.’” – Matthew 18: 21-22
“Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.” We pray these words each time that we pray the Our Father at Mass and during our own personal prayer time. We know the words, but do we grasp the significance of what we’re praying? In essence, we’re asking God to use the same standard of forgiveness towards us as we use towards others who ask for our forgiveness. Do we really mean that? I like to think that I’m a forgiving person, but I know I’m not perfect in that area and it’s something I need to aware of. That’s why those words from the Our Father should catch our attention. This weekend’s Gospel from St. Matthew talks about forgiveness. We hear about the master who forgave his servant who owed a great debt and was unable to repay. The servant was about to lose everything, but he begged forgiveness from the master who, moved with compassion, forgave the debt. Later, that same servant showed no compassion toward a fellow servant who owed him much less. The master found out about this and handed him over to the torturers until he satisfied his debt. Jesus used this example to show us that God the Father is compassionate, merciful, slow to anger and quick to forgive. But we must be open to His mercy and mirror that mercy and forgiveness in our own lives towards others. If God is infinitely merciful with us, shouldn’t we also be forgiving with our family members, coworkers, neighbors or even a stranger? And not just to say the words, “I forgive you”, but to really mean it “from your heart” as the Gospel says. Are you still holding on to a grudge or situation that happened weeks, years or even decades ago? Is there someone who you’ve been unable to forgive? While someone may never ask for forgiveness for the way they hurt you, that doesn’t prevent us from forgiving them from the heart. Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.

All Parishioners Please Note: Recent News Events Prompt Changes
to Increase Security and Health Practices
Hospitality ministers at a recent meeting were instructed to lock the church doors when weekend Masses begin and, effective September 26, the front door while the celebrant is reading or singing the Collect.
This means that all doors will be locked at about five minutes after Masses begin, and no one will be able to gain entry to the Church. Signs directing latecomers to the front door have been removed.
All exits except the front door have crash bars so anyone can exit the church building at any time, but he or she will not be able to re-gain entry. The main (front) door is locked and unlocked with a knob, so hospitality ministers guarding that door can and will unlock it to grant exit if requested. Hospitality ministers were firmly directed to open the door for no one to enter after the doors have been locked.
Also, for the safety and good health of all, hospitality ministers will be urging parishioners to move to the middle of pews. Doing so will maximize space in pews available to others. This practice is intended to reduce “climbing over” people at the end of pews and needlessly breaking the physical distancing protocol so important to limiting the spread of Covid-19.
The heightened security is prompted by recent attacks throughout the United States on Catholic churches, statues and images, including the minivan crash through the front door of Our Lady Queen of Peace July 13 in Ocala.
The Collect is the opening prayer which the celebrant begins with “Let us pray” early in the Mass, about 5 minutes after he arrives at the altar. It follows the Penitential Act (Kyrie, I Confess, or Lord Have Mercy) and “Gloria” when there is one.

Our Lady of Grace Community of Catholic Women
The Lord is kind and merciful, slow to anger, and rich in compassion.
Our Lady of Grace Community of Catholic Women would like to invite all women of the Parish to join us for a year of prayer, service and fun!! Dues are $7 and can be mailed to the office or dropped in the collection basket. We are thinking of creative ways to meet! More news to come next week. Have you heard of Lectio Divina? It's a prayerful reading of Sacred Scripture. First, choose a passage from Scripture or the Gospel. Read it slowly and gently while listening to the "still, small voice" of a word or phrase that speaks to you. God is teaching us to listen, to seek Him in silence. Next, Ponder. Take a word or phrase and memorize it and slowly repeat it to yourself. Allow the inner pondering to invite you into dialogue with God. Last, Pray. Interact with God as you would with one who you know loves and accepts you. Give to God what you have found within your heart. Lectio Divina has no goal other than that of being in the presence of God by praying the Scriptures.

¿Hay alguien a quien no has podido perdonar?
Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
