Preface

This manual describes the installation of the Teamcenter® Enterprise ClearCase Integration.The Teamcenter Enterprise ClearCase Integration belongs to the UGS portfolio of digitalproduct lifecycle management software and services.

AudienceThis manual is intended for the individuals responsible for installing, managing, and usingthe integration. Managers from the Teamcenter Enterprise and ClearCase sides of theintegration can both benefit from some content in this manual. It assumes that you arefamiliar with basic operating system use, including setting environment variables.

ConventionsThis manual uses the conventions described in the following section.

Technical changes are marked by a bar adjacent to the changed text.

Note, Caution, and Warning Icons

The following icons represent note, caution, and warning messages:

A note icon identifies general instructions or comments that need to beemphasized.

Names and Values

This manual represents system names, file names, and values in fonts that help you interpretthe name or value. For example:

Change or add the parameter to the initsid.ora file.

The conventions are:

Bold Bold font represents unvarying text or numbers within a name or value.Capitalization is as it appears.

Italic Italic font represents text or numbers that vary within a name or value.The characters in italic text describe the entry. Letters are shown inlowercase, but the varying text may include uppercase letters.

In initsid.ora, sid identifies a varying portion of the name (a uniquesystem ID). For example, the name of the file might be:

initBlue5.ora

text-text A hyphen separates two words that describe a single entry.

Command Line Entries, File Contents, and Code

This manual represents command line input and output, the contents of system files, andcomputer code in fonts that help you understand how to enter text or to interpret displayedtext. For example, the following line represents a command entry:

msqlora -u system/system-password

The conventions are:

Monospace Monospace font represents text or numbers you enter on a command line,the computer’s response, the contents of system files, and computer code.

Capitalization and spacing are shown exactly as you must enter thecharacters or as the computer displays the characters.

Italic Italic font represents text or numbers that vary. The words in italictext describe the entry.

The words are shown in lowercase letters, but the varying text mayinclude uppercase letters. When entering text, use the case requiredby the system.

For the preceding example, you might substitute the following forsystem-password:

1 Installing theClearCase Integration

This chapter describes how to install the Teamcenter Enterprise ClearCase Integrationon your Teamcenter Enterprise network.

Planning Your InstallationThis section provides system requirements and other information necessary for planningyour ClearCase Integration installation.

Software Requirements

The ClearCase Integration is supported on the following platforms:

• Microsoft Windows (limited server support)1• Hewlett-Packard HP-UX• Sun Solaris

For information about versions of operating systems, third-party software, and Teamcentersoftware that are certified for your platform, see the UGS Certification Database:

http://support.ugs.com/online_library/certification/

To use the certification database, choose the platform and products you use, then click ShowCertifications.

• The UGS Certification Database also provides information on certainhardware certified for use with Teamcenter Enterprise.

• Some software requirements differ for non-English locales. When viewingthe UGS certification database, make sure you note any exceptions foryour locale.

1. No Teamcenter Enterprise servers are supported on Windows 98 or Windows XP systems.

ClearCase Requirements

The ClearCase Integration requires at least one ClearCase client be installed on the sameplatform as your Teamcenter Enterprise corporate server. Verify that the ClearCase clientcan create and delete views and load data into ClearCase.

Make sure the Teamcenter Enterprise trusted user has administrative privileges on theClearCase host and can create labels, attributes, and views from the ClearCase environment.

For supported versions of ClearCase, see the UGS Certification Database.

Enterprise Tier Requirements

The ClearCase Integration requires a Teamcenter Enterprise 5.0 corporate server with theTeamcenter Enterprise Foundation server solution2 installed and running. For informationabout installing a Teamcenter Enterprise corporate server, see the appropriate TeamcenterEnterprise server installation manual (for Windows or UNIX).

Before you install The ClearCase Integration, install the latest product patches using thePatch Set Package Manager as described in the appropriate Teamcenter Enterprise serverinstallation manual (for Windows or UNIX).

Installation Overview

Before you install the ClearCase Integration, prepare the Teamcenter Enterprise networkby performing the following tasks as described in the Teamcenter Enterprise installationmanuals:

1. Install the Teamcenter Enterprise 5.0 corporate server.

2. Install the latest patch set packages.

3. Install local area and work group servers.

4. Install the classic client on all managed hosts.

After you complete these steps, install the ClearCase Integration by performing the followingtasks as described in this chapter:

1. Installing the ClearCase Integration on the enterprise tier.

2. Verifying ClearCase Integration installation.

2. The Configuration Editor selects any additional prerequisite server solutions automatically when you install TheClearCase Integration.

Installing the ClearCase Integration on the Enterprise TierThis section describes how to install the ClearCase Integration on the enterprise tier, that is,the Teamcenter Enterprise corporate server and all local area and work group servers.

Copying Installation Files

Before you install the ClearCase Integration, you must copy installation files from theClearCase Integration distribution image to your corporate server host.

Windows systems:

1. Locate the ClearCase Integration software distribution image for your platform on yourlocal computer or network.

2. Browse to the WINDOWS directory in the distribution image and double-click theINSTALL_I3C.EXE program icon. WinZip displays a self-extractor dialog window.

3. In the Unzip To Folder field, enter the path to MTI_ROOT, then click Unzip.

After WinZip extracts the installation files, click Close to close the WinZip self-extractordialog window.

Alternatively, you can extract the installation files from a command promptby entering the following command:

image-path\WINDOWS\INSTALL_I3C.EXE /auto MTI_ROOT

Replace image-path with the path to the ClearCase Integration distributionimage.

UNIX systems:

1. Log in as the Teamcenter Enterprise trusted user.

2. Locate the ClearCase Integration software distribution image for your platform on yourlocal computer or network.

3. Change to the MTI_ROOT directory.

4. Enter the following command to copy ClearCase Integration installation files to yourhost:

cat image-path/INSTALL_I3C.TZ | uncompress -c | tar xvf -

Replace image-path with the full path to the ClearCase Integration distribution image.

Installing ClearCase Integration Server Solutions

This section describes how to add ClearCase Integration server solutions to your TeamcenterEnterprise installation.

Installing Server Solutions on the Corporate Server

To install ClearCase Integration server solutions on your Teamcenter Enterprise corporateserver, perform the following steps:

If your Teamcenter Enterprise license file requires an update forClearCase Integration server solutions, make sure you copy the updated licensefile to the directory specified by the LM_LICENSE_FILE system environmentvariable, then stop and restart the license manager.

1. Stop the MUX and dispatcher services by entering the following commands:3

dspstopmuxstop

2. Launch the Configuration Editor:

a. Windows systems: Browse to the MTI_ROOT\install directory and double-clickthe cfgedit2.bat program icon.

b. UNIX systems: Change to the MTI_ROOT/install directory and enter cfgedit2.

3. Make sure the disk locations list includes the location of the ClearCase Integrationsoftware distribution image. If necessary, add or modify disk locations by clickingModify Disk Locations.

4. Click Add Server Solutions.

5. Select the Teamcenter Enterprise ClearCase Integration server solution.

6. Click OK. The Configuration Editor installs the selected solution.

When the installation is complete, exit the Configuration Editor.

7. Restart the MUX and dispatcher by entering the following commands:4

muxstartdspstart

Updating Local Area and Work Group Servers

Update local area and work group servers by performing the following steps:

1. If you changed the license manager configuration on the corporate server, verify thatthe LM_LICENSE_FILE system environment variable is set correctly on the localarea or work group server.

2. Copy configuration files from the corporate server to each local area server and each workgroup server. Configuration files are in the following directories on the corporate server:

MTI_ROOT\install\hosts\commonMTI_ROOT\install\hosts\target-host-name

Replace target-host-name with the name of the local area or work group server host.

Copy all files in these directories to the MTI_ROOT\install directory on the local areaor work group server.

3. Run the Teamcenter Enterprise setup file (pdmsetup) to set Teamcenter Enterpriseenvironment variables:5

Windows systems:

Open a command prompt and enter the following command:

MTI_ROOT\config\pdmsetup.bat

UNIX systems:

C shells: source MTI_ROOT/config/pdmsetup

Korn and Bourne shells: . /MTI_ROOT/config/pdmsetup.sh

4. From a command prompt, start the installation script by entering the followingcommand:

esvm insmenu

5. Answer the installation script prompts. Accept all default paths shown (unless thelocation of the install images has changed). After you answer all necessary prompts, theinstallation script displays the following prompt:

Installation (MTI_ROOT) directory: pathLocation of the install images: path

Are your answers correct [Y/N] [Y]?

6. Enter Y.

The installation script installs the ClearCase Integration server solutions on the host.

7. Propagate configuration changes to local area servers by running the pushall commandon the corporate server. For information about the pushall command, see theappropriate Teamcenter Enterprise server installation manual (for Windows or UNIX).

5. If you automated setting of Teamcenter Enterprise environment variables, this is performed automatically when you log in.

Updating Classic Client hosts

On each classic client host, perform the following steps:

1. Transfer client configuration files from the corporate server.

2. Run the Teamcenter Enterprise setup file (pdmsetup).

3. Run the installation script (insmenu).

For more information about these procedures, see steps 2 through 4 in Updating Local Areaand Work Group Servers, earlier in this chapter.

This procedure does not apply to classic clients installed using the InstallShieldwizard (winclnt.exe).

Completing ClearCase Integration Installation on the Corporate Server

This section describes procedures necessary to complete installation of theClearCase Integration on the corporate server.

Verifying Class Maps

Verify the class maps shown in table 1-1 and modify if necessary. The ClearCase Integrationadds these maps during installation.

Map Name Variable Description

i3cAttrCreation ATTRIBUTE_CREATION_ON Specifies whether to create a ClearCaseattribute on a ClearCase object whenregistering that object in TeamcenterEnterprise. Valid values are Y or N.

i3cCfeMapToValues VIEW_STORAGE_HOST Specifies the name of the host on which theClearCase Integration creates views.

VIEW_STORAGE_DIR Specifies the path in which theClearCase Integration creates views.

On Windows systems, this path mustcontain UNC directory names (8 or feweralphanumeric characters).

On UNIX systems, this value should reflectthe global path of the view rather thanthe view server path. The path specifiedshould be globally accessible from theTeamcenter Enterprise corporate server.This path may differ from the directoryname on the view storage host machine. Ifnecessary, you can determine the properVIEW_STORAGE_DIR path by enteringthe following command:

cleartool lsview -l some_view_name

Verify class maps:

1. In the Configuration Editor, click Modify Maps.

2. In the Modify Maps dialog window, locate the Configuration Hierarchy field and selectGlobal, then click Modify Class Maps.

3. In the Modify Class Maps dialog window, select the map you want to view or modify,then click Modify.

Setting Up the Cleanup Life Cycle

An optional life cycle may be set up to aid in the cleanup of data execution objects generatedduring ClearCase Integration exchanges. To create this life cycle, perform the following steps:

1. Start a session of Teamcenter Enterprise and log in as the super user.

2. To open a Life Cycle Administration browser, pull down the Window menu and chooseLCM Admin.

3. To create a message process, pull down the Create menu and choose Message Process.

4. Enter the name MCI Cleanup.

5. Select the associated message name i3cCfeLcmRemoveExeObjs.

6. Click OK.

7. To create a life cycle, pull down the Create menu and choose Life Cycle.

8. Enter the life cycle name Clean Execution Objs.

9. Ensure that Business Item and Data Item are both selected on the Object Class Listselection list.

10. Click OK.

11. From the LCM Admin window, double-click the new life cycle to enter the graphicallife cycle editor.

12. Right-click in the editor and select Add Node to create a blank life cycle step.

13. Right-click the blank life cycle step and select Update Step.

14. Select MCI Cleanup for the Process Name field, and click OK.

15. Save the life cycle and close the life cycle creation dialog.

Installing the ClearCase Integration

Testing the IntegrationBegin testing the integration by making sure the Perl scripts are working properly.

1. Run the following command from a command prompt:

Windows systems:

dec exportview -o C:\temp\viewlist.xml tag=all

UNIX systems:

dec exportview -o /tmp/viewlist.xml tag=all

The dec command is installed in the MTI_ROOT/bin directory. This command, in turn,references scripts in the MTI_ROOT/meta/i3c/lib directory. If the command runssuccessfully, the viewlist.xml file is generated in the corresponding temporary directory.

2. Open the file with an editor and note the names of the views accessible from ClearCase.

3. Start a session of Teamcenter Enterprise and log in as super user.

4. Create a Teamcenter Enterprise view by pulling down the Create menu and choosing thefollowing options:

Administrative Classes→ClearCase Classes→ClearCase View

For the view name, use one of the views found in the viewlist.xml file generatedin step 1.

5. Find the view by pulling down the Query menu and choosing the following options:

Administrative Classes→ClearCase Classes→ClearCase View

The new view displays in the list if the installation is successful.
