Edward Clark

Hello, I'm Claudio Monteverdi, born on the

15th of may 1567.

I’m an Italian composer, violinist and singer. Born

in Cremona Italy.

My work marked the turn over from renaissance to

baroque music!

I developed a new style of opera and became very

famous.

At the age of 23, I started working at the court in

Mantua as a violinist/vocalist and after

12 years became the conductor there.

By the time I was forty I had composed eight books

full of madrigals.

My eighth book contains the Madrigals of love and war, and many say that

they were absolute perfection.

All my eight books together show the movement of the

renaissance to baroque periods going from

polyphonic to monadic textures.

With the movement to monody, which is a mainly

one line melody it was clear to me that I should start writing opera, so I

did.

And in 1609 I wrote my first Orfeo, a piece for an occasion so my piece was performed at the annual

carnival of Mantua. It was a success. I had created

the musical drama.

After wards I became conductor at San Marco in

Venice. Then later on in my life I created to new

master pieces and invented the tremolo.
