The FRITSCH family business is an internationally respected manufacturer of
application-orientated laboratory instruments. In 1961 FRITSCH applied for a
world wide patent for the first Laboratory Planetary Mill. In 1996 FRITSCH also
patented the first ever Planetary Mill with only one working station (Mono Mill).
Since then FRITSCH Planetary Mills have become the standard in industry and
research laboratories worldwide.

Worldwide, FRITSCH Planetary Mills of the classic line are
the laboratory standard for the widest range of applications.
The name PULVERISETTE is synonymous with fast, loss-
free fine grinding of samples, operator friendly, consistent
reproducibility and long, reliable service life even under
continuous, heavy duty usage.
All classic line Planetary Mills are characterised by
particularly easy, ergonomic operation, offer fast and easy
cleaning and guarantee safe clamping of the bowls.
Depending on the fineness required, the grinding can be
performed dry, in suspension or in inert gas. In addition
to comminution, you can also use the Planetary Mills of
the FRITSCH classic line for mixing and homogenising
of emulsions and pastes or for mechanical alloying and
activation in material research.
Select with confidence the right option for your special needs
from the unique FRITSCH classic line -range of Planetary Ball
Mills!
Planetary Ball Mills – high-performance all-rounders in routine
laboratory work
In Planetary Ball Mills, the comminution of the material to be
ground takes place primarily through the high-energy impact of
grinding balls. To achieve this, the grinding bowl, containing the
material to be ground and grinding balls, rotates around its own
axis on a main disk whilst rotating rapidly in the opposite direction.
At a certain speed, with this configuration, the centrifugal force
causes the ground sample material and grinding balls to separate
from the inner wall of the grinding bowl. The grinding balls then
cross the bowl at high speed and further grind the sample
material by impact against the opposite bowl wall. In addition
impact between the balls themselves on
the sample material adds to the size
reduction process.

In contrast to conventional Planetary Mills, the rotational
speed of the grinding bowls and supporting disk can be
configured separately in the PuLveRISeTTe 4 classic line.
Advantage to you: A single mill for mechanical activating
and alloying providing optimum grinding conditions suited
to the respective material to be ground and the size of
the grinding bowls and balls! For results that cannot be
achieved with other Ball Mills.
The mill is controlled by integral software, in which up to
9 programmes can be saved and then loaded quickly and
easily via the mill display.
How the variable PULVERISETTE 4 classic line functions
You can directly influence the movement and paths of the grinding
balls by varying the transmission ratio between the grinding bowls
and supporting disk: Depending on the setting, you can obtain high
impact energy or high friction, according to your needs, or have
your PuLveRISeTTe 4 classic line operate as a Centrifugal Mill.
You are free to choose all intermediate levels and combinations
between friction-based and impact-based comminution. This
makes the mill uniquely versatile.

This Gas Pressure and Temperature Measuring
System developed in cooperation with the
Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Material Research
(IFAM) in Dresden, is for use with the Planetary
Mills PULVERISETTE 4, PULVERISETTE 5 and
PULVERISETTE 6 of the FRITSCH classic line
transform them into analytical measurement
systems.
Through the continuous direct measurement of gas pressure
and temperature, it is possible to monitor thermal effects
as well as physical and chemical reactions or pressure
variations within the grinding bowl. To achieve this, the
grinding bowl is simply used with a radio transmitter located
in the lid, without any modification to the mill itself. The
monitored data is passed by a receiver to a computer
running a special WINDOWSTM programme and allows for
graphical presentation of the measurement values and
collating them in an excelTM table.

The GTM-System can be used wherever batch quantities are
ground in a totally enclosed container. Special grinding bowls
made of stainless steel in capacities 250 ml and 500 ml are
available.
The GTM-System provides valuable information
- Investigations in the area of mechanical alloying for the
production of new amorphous and nano-crystalline materials
- Monitoring and optimisation of grinding processes in industrial
applications
Through measurement of the grinding bowl temperature, it is
possible to make an integral statement on temperature as a
process variable that takes account of the effects of all friction,
impact and transformation processes. The continuous and highly
sensitive measurement of the gas pressure in the grinding bowl
allows the detection of very rapid reactions. The measured gas
pressure describes, amongst other things, the interactions of
the gas with the surfaces created during grinding (adsorption
and desorption of gases).
extremely rapid phase formations can for the first time be
observed IN SITu as an adiabatic process without heat
exchange from the system.
Adjustmentofthegrindingparametersrotationalspeed,balls/
sample material ratio and grinding time can be performed first
time without expensive, time-consuming and abortive trials.
Due to precise measurement of reaction times, for example,
new materials can be prepared through specific addition of
reaction partners, or produced with special mechano-chemical
properties.

To avoid the risk of contaminating the samples with abrasion from the grinding elements, we offer grinding bowls and grinding
balls in 8 different materials for the FRITSCH classic line. In normal cases, grinding bowls and balls of the same material
are used. To shorten the grinding time, balls with a higher density and correspondingly higher impact energy can be used,
e.g. tungsten carbide balls in a steel bowl or zirconium oxide balls in a silicon nitride bowl.

Through the use of a special lid on the grinding bowl, you can
also grind your samples in inert atmospheres. Two valves
allow for easy and safe filling of the bowls with inert gas while
they are firmly clamped in the mill. A special Additional Lock-
System is required for gas-tight removal and transportation
(see below).
A D D I T I O N A L L O C K - S Y S T E M
With this special Additional Lock-System, you can gas-tight
seal your grinding bowls for transport between filling in the
glove box and the mill. With an additional adapter, it can
also be used for small grinding bowls.

Recommended Bowl Filling
The quantity of grinding balls may be reduced by up to 15%; but, increased abrasion will occur. The specified number/mass of balls per bowl is the minimum quantity; depending on the material properties, it may need to be increased. In normal cases, grinding bowls and balls of the same material are used. To shorten the grinding time, larger or heaver balls with higher density can be used, e.g.: Tungsten carbide balls in a steel bowl or zirconium oxide balls in a silicon nitride bowl.

the compact fritsch Jaw crusher PUlVErisEttE 1 classic
line is the ideal instrument for fast and effective pre-crushing
of hard and very hard brittle materials – even ferrous alloys
are no problem for this instrument! choose according to
your tasks: two different models for various feed sizes and
sample quantities are available.
The powerful comminution of the sample takes place in
the Jaw Crusher under high pressure between one fi xed
and one movable crushing jaw in an enclosed grinding
chamber. The fi nal fi neness is easily set from the outside
with the 10-stage adjustable gap width between the cru-
shing jaws. The ground sample automatically falls down-
ward – into a drawer for batchwise comminution or via
a chute into a larger collection container for continuous
operation or directly into a FRITSCH Disk Mill PULVERI-
SETTE 13 classic line for further comminution.
Saves time and energy: the especially
simple crushing jaw removal takes only
seconds and requires only two hand
motions to ensure particularly simple
cleaning – fast and thorough.

The funnel of the FRITSCH Jaw Crusher
PULVERISETTE 1 classic line is particularly
accessible, quickly and easily fi lled even with
larger sample quantities and easy to clean.
Its design enables the crushed material to
be automatically conveyed into the crushing
chamber – blockages are practically impos-
sible.
For simple and fast releasing of the fi xed
crushing jaw. The crushing jaw can be re-
moved for cleaning quickly and easily with
just 2 hand motions.
Gap width adjustment for setting the distance
between the crushing jaws – and therefore
setting the fi nal fi neness.
View of the grinding chamber with the
housing removed
The practical collecting vessel for batchwise
comminution is particularly easy to remove.
A practical plexiglas cover for optical inspec-
tion of optimum material fl ow.
Especially safe and dust-free: The enclosed grinding chamber prevents users
from reaching inside and ensures a safe and dust-free operation of all moving
parts. An integrated connection makes it very simple to combine the instru-
ment with a dust exhaust system for automatic removal of the fi ne dust arising
during grinding. The dust exhaust system is also very useful when cleaning
the grinding parts.
The kinematics – in other words, the move-
ment between the movable and fi xed crushing
jaws – of the FRITSCH Jaw Crusher PULVERI-
SETTE 1 classic line can be easily adapted to
the breaking characteristics of the respec-
tive sample: Select the upward and down-
ward movement of the movable crushing jaw
relative to the fi xed one in order to receive a
sample in a narrow particle size range. For a
fast comminution, please select the nearly
circular motion.

The crushing jaws and lateral support walls of the FRITSCH

6 different materials in order to avoid undesired contami-

equipped with fi xed and movable crushing jaws as well as
lateral support walls made of tempered steel.
Normally, crushing jaws and support walls of the same mate-

low stresses, however, the standard lateral support walls
made of tempered steel can often be retained.

• Simple operation
• Fast grinding disk change
• Precision setting of the fi nal fi neness even during grinding
• High service life due to generously dimensioned bearings
the especially heavy and solid fritsch Disk Mill PUl-
VErisEttE 13 classic line is the ideal instrument for
fi ne grinding of up to 150 kg per hour of hard-brittle
and medium-hard solids – even in continuous opera-
tion. the maximum feed size per piece is approximately
20 mm edge length, the fi nal fi neness is freely adjustable
between 12 mm and 0.1 mm.
The material to be ground is comminuted by pressure and
shearing action between two counteracting grinding disks with
coarse interlocking teeth. The ground material automatically
falls down through an output gap into the collection drawer.
The desired fi nal fi neness can be defi ned from the outside
by changing the gap width.
Especially time saving: The grinding
chamber can be completely opened
which makes cleaning especially simple
and the grinding disks are very easily
accessible for changing.

PUlVErisEttE 9 offers many practical advantages in all
areas in which hard, brittle and fi brous material must be
ground extremely quick down to analytical fi neness. Now
with increased grinding power and a completely new drive
concept, even safer and easier to tension the grinding set,
especially quiet, simple to operate and quick to clean.
Easy working
No similar mill offers a more convenient operation: The
working position is ergonomically optimised; the ease
of cleaning is without match. The grinding sets are
especially light, and do not have to be placed directly on
the vibrating plate in the centre of the mill. The grinding
set is simply placed on the guide rail and easily moved
to the fi nal position. This protects your back and saves
energy and time. The grinding set is tensioned in seconds
using a well-thought out one-hand lever.

Optimises your grinding process: the fritsch-motor with
torque-optimised frequency converter
In the Vibrating Cup Mill, the grinding is per formed by
horizontal circular oscillations of the grinding set on a vibrating
plate. The grinding set consisting of ring and puck comminute
the grinding sample with extremely high pressure, impact
forces and friction. In this form of grinding, the transmission
of forces onto the grinding sample is much more important
than the pure motor power. For this reason, FRITSCH as the
first provider worldwide, developed for the PULVERISETTE 9
a special motor and now equipped it with an especially
interference-resistant, torque-optimised frequency converter
which fulfils all the relevant safety standards worldwide. It
ensures that the motor output is precisely matched to the
grinding material and grinding set - which optimises the energy
consumption.
O U r s U g g E s t i O N Grinding sets with high density, e.g. tempered steel
or tungsten carbide, reduce the grinding time.

particle size, any abrasion of the grinding parts – all these
factors are signifi cant. And of course the costs.

FRITSCH Grinding Bowls and Grinding Balls
To avoid the risk of contaminating the samples with abrasion
from grinding elements, we offer grinding bowls and grinding
balls in 8 different materials for the FRITSCH classic line
and premium line. In normal cases, grinding bowls and balls
of the same material are used.ed.
To shorten the grinding time, grinding bowls and balls with
a higher density and correspondingly higher impact energy
can be used.

Sieves
For dry and wet sieving with mesh
widths from 20 µm to 63 mm. All are
especially light, robust and manu-
factured in high quality (no soldered
seam!). Highly alloyed stainless steel
protects against corrosion and simpli-
fi es cleaning. Groove-free mesh tran-
sitions prevent contamination of the
sieving material. Available in accor-
dance with ISO 3310 -1 or ASTM E-11-
1995 in the diameters 200 mm (height
50 mm or 25 mm), 100 mm (height
40 mm) or 8“ (height 2“). Every sieve is
laser-engraved, optically measured and
delivered with a compliance certifi cate.
FRITSCH Micro-Precision Sieves
Available only from FRITSCH: With the
micro-precision sieves, the ANALY-
SETTE 3 PRO is suitable for wet-sieving
of fi ne materials from 5 µm to 100 µm
and for dry sieving of the smallest sam-
ple quantities from 0.05 – 0.5 g. The
micro-precision sieves of pure nickel
foil with a sieve diameter of 100 mm
feature a large open sieving surface.
Blockages are reliably prevented by the
etched-in holes that widen toward the
bottom. The matching clamping set,
sieve clamping lid, sieve pan, sieve
spacer and fast locking clamp along
with the large sieve surface permit
effi cient sieving.
Sieve clamping lid, sieve pans and
interposed sieve pans for dry sieving
For observation of the sieving process,
sieve clamping lids made of plexiglas
are available for FRITSCH test sieves
of 100 mm or 200 mm/8“ diameter.
You also receive a clamping lid made
of polyamide (without window) to
sieve materials for which metallic
contamination must be avoided. Of
course, we also offer corresponding
sieve pans and sieves made of plastic.
Sieve pans and interposed sieve pans

FRITSCH Advantage The multilingual
AUTO SIEVE programme for automatic
evaluation, simple monitoring and docu-
mentation of your sieving results is sup-
plied on a practical USB stick and is
therefore very quickly installed. All you
have to do is to connect a laboratory
analysis balance, and then weigh the
sieves before and after sieving using
differential weighing. AUTOSIEVE will do
the rest. The software, which is suitable
for Windows 7, XP and Vista, enables
simple saving and retrieving of empty
sieve weights, both of single sieves and
complete sieve sets (see ordering data,
accessories for automatic evaluation of
sieve analysis).
ANALYSETTE 18
Especially practical and safe The
ANALYSETTE 18 is supplied with the
TwinNut quick fastening system for
sieves and clamping lids. This safely
ensures constant tensioning pressure
and stability of the sieve stack.
Especially effi cient Up to 12 test
sieves (65 mm height) with sieve pans
and lid can be used per working cycle.
