Citing Sources

In-text citation:If you quote, paraphrase, or summarize in the body of the paper,you must cite the source.That is, the sentence must include whatever word appears first for that item on the Works Cited page.

Works Cited page:Alphabetical list of every source actually used in the paper.(If you don’t use it, don’t put it on the Works Cited page.)

If it’s web-based, include the URL.

List entries alphabetically Use a “hanging” indent

Use quotation marks for title of article or chapter (i.e., small part); use italics for title of journal or book (i.e., larger work).

If you found it online, include the URL so I can click on the link.

Look at the Works Cited page you brought to class. Fix any errors, so that the corrected version is ready to include as the last page of your final paper.

(Note: The Works Cited page is part of your paper – NOT a separate document.)

Organizing Your Paper
