Welcome to the Spring 2019 semester of C.L.A.S.S.

C.L.A.S.S. Registration Requirements & Information:

Registration is required for ALL classes 1 week in advance. Call 864-4167 or online at www.ca.uky.edu/laurel.

Class fees must be paid in advance. Please make checks payable to Laurel County Cooperative Extension. Credit cards are accepted in person and when registering online.

When registering online or by phone, Extension will hold your spot for two weeks until payment is received. If payment is not received 1 week prior to class, your registration will be forfeited.

Please be considerate of others. If you cannot attend please notify the Extension Office so others can participate in the program.

Refunds will only be given if the class is canceled by the Extension Office or if participant requests a refund one week prior to class—unless advertised differently.

Registration is required to receive notification of class changes or cancellation. In the event that insufficient registration requires cancellation of a class, participants

will be notified prior to the class by phone. We only notify those that have registered. If Laurel County Schools are canceled due to inclement weather all C.L.A.S.S. programs

will be canceled. If in doubt, please call the Extension Office at 864-4167 for confirmation or follow us on FACEBOOK at laurelcountyfcs.

Our classes are designed for adults 18 years and older unless advertised differently. All classes are held at the Laurel County Extension Office, 200 County Extension Rd.,

London, KY unless noted otherwise.

Join this Class to learn all the basics of quilting in miniature. This class is for beginners, Intermediate, and skilled alike, but it is a great way for beginners to learn all the skills without overwhelming them with a whole quilt. Participants will be designing, piecing, appliquing,

quilting and binding their own miniature masterpieces. (Participants are encouraged to bring their favorite mug if they would like to try and

make a mug rug to match.)

CHOCOLATE GANACHE

Ganache is a mixture of chocolate and cream melted together and used in a variety of ways. You can use it as a glaze, or filling between

the layers of your cakes. It can be whipped into a fluffy frosting, or used to make truffles. Come join this demonstration on how to make

SMALL STEPS TO HEALTH AND WEALTH

Small Steps to Health and Wealth is a self-paced activity program that encourages participants to make a few changes in their lives in the areas of nutrition, physical activity, and money

management. Not only do a few changes add up to a healthier person but choosing only a few changes to focus on improves the success rate of actually accomplishing the goals. Four lunch and learn sessions will be offered. During each of these sessions participants will be introduced to strategies in which they can choose three or four they want to adopt to improve their health

and personal finances. Participants will receive daily encouragement and accountability as well as praise for accomplishing these goals. A light lunch will be provided for registered participants.

HOMEBASED MICROPROCESSOR WORKSHOP

This videotaped HBM workshop is required to become a Homebased Microprocessor in Kentucky. It is the first in a series of steps which includes recipe approval (at a cost of $5 per recipe), verification of an approved

water source, and annual certification by the Kentucky Food Safety Branch (with a certification fee of $50 per year). To qualify, farmers must live and farm in Kentucky. The final product must contain a fruit, vegetable,

nut or herb grown by the farmer. Products may be sold from the farm, registered farmers markets or certified roadside stands. Once certified, Homebased Microprocessors may sell products such as canned tomatoes

and tomato products, pickled fruits and vegetables, salsa, barbecue sauce, pepper or herb jellies, pressure-canned vegetables, and low- or no-sugar jams and jellies.Homebased Processors in Kentucky may sell lower-risk

products such as fruit jams, jellies, butters, and syrups; dried fruits, vegetables, nuts, and herbs; baked goods containing a fruit, vegetable, nut, or herb grown by the processor; cut fruits and vegetables; and prepackaged

mixed greens. No fee is associated with becoming a Homebased Processor and the HBM workshop is not required. However, processors must register each year with the KY Food Safety Branch. To request an

application, contact the Food Safety Branch at 502-564-7181. Lunch for participants will be provided.

Come join us and learn to crochet. This coffee cozy is simple enough for a beginner but fun for all levels of

experience. Instructor will provide everything necessary for one cozy. Just come join the fun while learning a new

Participants will learn the basics of wire wrapped jewelry, learn about the tools commonly used, supplies and

techniques while making a lovely heart pendant. If you have any jewelry tools ( hammer, pliers, wire cutters ) bring these to class, but it is not necessary. All supplies and tools

Learn how to make this fabric covered coiled rope bowl, using scrap fabric, and rope. Participants need to bring

During this four session class, students will quickly learn how easy it is to create a special decorated dessert for any and all occasions. Students

will learn to ice and decorate a cake and other sweet treats, make several different buttercream icing flowers, pipe lines and make simple borders, letters and shapes on your cake; transfer images to a cake to decorate,

make icing the right consistency to decorate; fill and use a decorating bag, and much more. Class notes: Students will not need to bring anything to first

If you are new to basket weaving or just love to make baskets, this little basket is perfect. Students will learn the basic technique while

MONO PRINTING

Mono Printing is a form of printmaking that has lines or images that can only be made once, unlike most forms of printmaking. During this two session class,

students will not only learn a technique of reverse painting to create images, but they will also create their own gelli print block to take home. During the

first session, students will make their gelli print block and create sample pieces using the instructors blocks. During the second session, students will use their

own blocks to create one of a kind art pieces, use resist techniques, and explore secondary uses for their artwork. Students are encouraged to bring artist paper

if they want. If you are a student from a previous class who would like to sharpen their skills, you are welcome to attend the 2nd class on 3/21/19 for $20.

for beginners. We will be supplying the sewing machines, supplies and basic tools so students may come and focus on the process of sewing. the world. The first gifts from Native Americans to the first European settlers were recipes using corn in hoecakes, pumpkin pie, Indian

pudding, succotash, and hasty pudding. Native spices include dill, chives, mustard, parsley, garlic, and basil. Creole cooking, which

marries French, African and Spanish cuisines, and Cajun cooking, is very hot and spicy, has ventured from the far South regions where it

originated to all over America. This will be a Facebook Live - Listening Session. Note: This class is open to the general public and qualifies as

STAINED GLASS QUILT BLOCK

Join us for this beginner/intermediate level class and learn the copper foil method of stained glass. Class includes all supplies and materials

to complete a miniature quilt block wall hanging. The pictured piece as well as a couple of other patterns will be available to choose

Pressure canning is the food preservation method required to process low acid foods, such as green beans, to insure they are safe to eat.
