Clarksville District
April 2017 Volume 12 Issue 3
Churches Around the District
Springfield First UMC
March 12th was UMW recognition day at Springfield
First UMC.
It began with a fund raiser breakfast, the proceeds
from which go to our many local missions. UMW
members then took part in both services, serving as
greeters, ushers, scripture readers, and speakers who
explained UMW and its mission.
All in all, a very successful day!
OUR PURPOSE
The organized unit of
United Methodist
Women is a community
of women whose
Purpose is to know God
and to experience
freedom as whole
persons through Jesus
Christ; to develop a
creative supportive
fellowship; and to
expand concepts of
mission through
participation in the
Global ministries of the
Church.

Social Action News
A garden is a place wherein to cleanse
The soul of petty thoughts.
To let the dew refresh our wilting dreams
A place wherein to find ourselves—and God —
Isla Paschal Richardson
My mother always told me when I was weary of working in our vegetable garden that “Gardening tills the soul” Now that I’m older and wiser I believe her.
Carole Rose Ashcroft
This is information I learned from Heather
Bennett in the Climate Justice Study, March
18th. We all need to think about this.
Americans makeup 5% of the global population but USE 20% of the world’s en-ergy.
We EAT 15% of the world’s meat. We PRO-DUCE 40% of the World’s Garbage!
I am trying hard to live a more sustainable life, for the sake of our grandchildren and great grandchildren and our precious earth. God made us caretakers. We must take this seri-ously.
EVENTS
District Spiritual Day Apart will be on April 22, from 9-12 at New Providence UMC
Joyce Clark will be our speaker. It will be on Creation. It’s Earth Day so we will be passing out native trees an seeds to plant.
Bring your housewarming shower gift or cards.
There will be a House Warming Shower for Ur-ban Ministries. It is home on Crossland Avenue that is being refurbished for homeless families Bring donations of “Living Gifts” that day. You will find a list of Urban Ministries on pages 4, 5, and 6 of this newsletter.
Habitat for Humanity needs your prayers. Mar-garet Alexander would be happy to do program for any UMW. Just call her a few days in ad-vance. Margaret’s #931-645-4222. Call during working hours 8-4.
They need Prayer Warrior Teams. They can meet in the conference room for prayer on any Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday of the first week in the month. The conference room is lo-cated in the rear of the Habitat Restore Shop on Madison Street. Margaret Alexander will meet with you in the board room. It truly works.
Another mission work day could be cleaning furniture at the Restore, which is donated and sold to the public to help fund Habitat.
Habitat could also use UMW units to be on call to make snack lunches at building sites. It’s usually 10-12 lunches consisting of 2 sand-wiches, 1 bag of chips, cookie and water.
Delivered to the site.
If your unit cad do any of the above things, please call Margaret Alexander at Habitat for Humanity

Spiritual Growth
In Isaiah 6:3 we read, “And one called to an-other and said: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory.’”
April 22, Earth Day, is also our UMW’s Spiritual Day Apart at New Providence UMC. This is an-other wonderful opportunity to enrich our spiritual growth and learn more about our role as caretakers of God’s glorious creation as we hear Joyce Clark’s message.
You will also be able to take home something to plant in your yard or garden as a reminder of your morning spent in contemplation and celebration of our earth. Be prepared for a spiritual renewal.
