There is much excite-ment about the upcoming cricket season for the Yar-rawonga Mulwala Cricket Club.
This year the popular Milo Cricket program and a new and exciting Under 11 competition will be held on Friday nights. This is a signifi-cant change as these have both been tradi-tionally held on Thurs-day nights. This change has occurred for several reasons, but the main focus is to try and make Friday nights popular at Vic Park for all fami-lies involved with the Yarrawonga Mulwala Cricket Club.
Registration Nights for children interested in these programs will be held on Thursday, September 20, Thursday, October 4 and Thurs-day, October 11. Regis-trations are held at Vic Park and will be con-ducted between 4.30pm and 5.30pm. The cost for the season is $65 per
child or $120 per jun-ior family and payment must be made on the registration nights.
Milo Cricket for 5 - 7 years olds will com-mence on Friday, Octo-ber 19. Last year there were a pleasing 56 par-ticipants. The program is action packed and the boys and girls will enjoy learning fundamental cricket skills. Each of the eight one hour sessions is broken into drills and modified games with the focus on fun. A Grade opening batsman Zach Moore will run Milo Cricket this year and his enthusiasm will en-hance the program. Parental involvement is essential, with 10-15 people required to assist each week to ensure the children learn as much as possible. Each par-ticipant receives a back pack which has a cricket bat, hat, ball, T-shirt and much more. Also on a weekly basis there will be Encouragement

Hello againWell what a big week this
is, especially for Yarrawon-ga Football Netball Club and we here at Square Leg Central urge each and eve-ry one of you to get behind them in their quest for the ultimate Football/Netball glory. #gotheparrots #seey-ouatlavi #howmanywillfe-vkick?Front page news
Chief in charge Glenn “King Parrot” Brear has one little goose he has to cook before we all hit the road to Lavi next Sunday. It goes in the form of a lit-tle old grand final parade. Well after speaking to the man himself it is going to be anything but little with over 100 “items” being paraded. Brear has achieved some lofty heights this season with the signing of Fev and has a couple more he wants to realise. One of them is to get the parade on the front of next Saturday’s Herald Sun. He has 2000 Fev faces ordered and is tipping at least 1500 school kids will attend. 12 midday start in Belmore St, be there…..Who ran over the cup?
The Lakers will have a “float” in the parade and last year’s premiership cup will be in attendance. This holy bit of silverware came in for some controversy over the premiership cel-ebration period. You see boys will be boys and they decided the cup left a bit
to be desired, so they took it into their own hands to make sure that it would never be presented again. So without going into too much detail the Wangaratta and District Cricket Associ-ation has a brand new shiny cup that would tower over the previous poor excuse All welcome
All cricketers and sup-porters are welcome to join the Lakers float, make sure you wear your blue Lakers shirt and we would like to have some people with bat, ball, pads, gloves on etc just to add to the spirit. Rob-bie “Sachin” Clarke is in charge so ring him on 0448 158927 if you have ques-tions. Be there say 11:30am somewhere in Belmore StThankyou
The yet to be named (Sponsors please!) Lakers Cricketing Precinct at Vic Park is undergoing a major face lift with the advent of a new junior/senior oval be-side the current Stan Har-greaves Oval. The concrete is down and the pitch cover should go down this week. The club is also shifting the pavilion to a more favour-able position. The amount of work by club members this season has been amaz-ing and there is still plenty to do. A big thankyou must go out to Bonat Concret-ing, Hunters Merchandise and Boral of Mulwala on what they provided to the project. Cricket starts this weekend
The Lakers will welcome
cricket back to Vic Park this weekend with visiting clubs Keilor and Broadmeadows playing a serious scratch match. Apparently there are a couple of West Indian quicks involved and one of them played Andy Rob-erts in the recent TV show Howzat. Should be worth a look, game starts around 11am. #howzat #gothimy-esgoneFavourable draw
This year’s senior draw is out and you can view it on the My Cricket website, just punch in Yarrawonga Mul-wala Cricket Club and go to fixtures. One of the high-lights will be the “Locking of the Horns” game be-tween the Bulls and Rams and the date is the Austral-ian Day weekend (Sunday, January 27). Stick this one in your diary. Already com-mentators Terry “Sunday is Terryday” Brear and Dwain “Daryl” Duxson are warm-ing up the dulcet tones…. #beerwithbrearThe serious stuff

A new and innovative Big Bash Program for 8 - 11 year olds will also commence on Friday, October 19. This will re-place the previous Un-der 11 competition. This competition will also be action packed with an extremely fast paced format. Teams will be made up of 8 players and the opposing teams will bat simultaneously on neighbouring small ovals so all players are par-ticipating at all times. A rubber ball will be used, so protective equipment is not required, further speeding up the game. Each pair will bat for 4 overs, for a total of 16
overs per match ensur-ing games are completed within one hour. Each team will have an expe-rienced coach and newly purchased coloured team shirts. With weekly awards presented by umpires from our club’s Under 16 team, this competition will be a lot of fun for all involved.
It is essential that boys or girls interested in either Milo Cricket or the Big Bash Competi-tion are registered on the Registration Nights. Further information can be obtained from Jason Bassett on 0448 838 256. Please support Yarrawonga Mulwala Cricket Club’s Friday night junior programs.
