It’s that time of year again. The special day in the month of May that everyone can relate to—Mother’s Day. When God made mothers he gave
them special blessings and the special gift to love, care for and cherish their families. Mothers give unconditional love and teach and encourage us every day of our lives. My mom always said to me, “You are the apple of my eye,”
and now I catch myself saying that to my daughter.
On that note, Mayor Burcroff is inviting every mother out there to come and join us for the Mother’s Day brunch. We will honor every one of you on May
4th at the Romulus Senior Center at 10:00 a.m. Please call and RSVP at 734-955-4120.
The Senior Garden project is here again. The gardens are limited this year, if you are interested please stop by the senior center and fill out the application
for the garden. Don’t forget to sign up for the May luncheon. HealthQuest will be at the Romulus Senior Center and treating us to lunch that day. If you are interested call the
senior center and sign up for the luncheon.
Seats are limited for the Tiger game for the month of May, June and July. Don’t forget to sign up ahead of time.
All my love,
Rose

Message from Mayor Burcroff
As Rose said, May is a great time to reflect on all the gifts our mothers, aunts, grandmothers and other special women in our lives have given us and
show our appreciation. That’s why I am inviting you all to my Mother’s Day Brunch on May 4th. This will be a special time for us all and
I hope to see you there.
I am also enjoying the sunshine and warmer weather we’ve been having. That is a good sign that summer is on its way. Stay tuned for the June
Communicator or any of our City cable channels or website for all the great community events we have planned for the summer season. Sounds in
Downtown, Movies in the Park and Farmers Market will all be back along with some great recreation programs for people of all ages and ability levels.
Looking forward to seeing you on the 4th.
Sincerely,
LeRoy D. Burcroff, Mayor of Romulus

1/2 pound ground beef
1/2 pound Italian sausage
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1 large onion, chopped
1 tsp. Italian seasoning
2 Tbsp. parsley
2 tsp garlic powder
2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
1 (29 oz) can tomato sauce
2 Tbsp. granulated sugar
1 1/4 c. water
1 (8 oz.) package regular lasagna noodles, uncooked
4 c. shredded mozzarella cheese
1 1/2 c. cottage cheese
1/2 c. grated Parmesan cheese
Recipe Exchange: Slow Cooker Lasagna
1. In a large skillet over medium heat brown the ground beef, Italian sausage and onion. Add salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, parsley, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, tomato sauce, sugar, and water. Stir and simmer 15-20 minutes. (You could make the sauce in advance!)
2. Spread a fourth of the meat sauce into the bottom of your slow cooker. Arrange a third of the noodles over the sauce (break the noodles to fit, if necessary). Combine the mozzarella, cottage cheese and parmesan cheese; spoon a third of the mixture over noodles. Repeat layers twice. Top with remaining meat sauce and sprinkle with extra mozzarella cheese, if desired.
3. Cover and cook on low for about 4-5 hours or until noodles are tender.
