ON THE COVERLa Cienega Park and Community Center is one of

the crown jewels of Beverly Hills’ athletic facilities and a special part of the City’s rich history. Once the home of an Olympic sized swimming pool, which served as the training site for the 1932 Olympians, it has changed throughout the years to meet the growing needs of the community. As we look to the future of this site, we want to invite the community to share their vision and wishes for the Park and Community Center.

Currently, the park features three baseball diamonds in the spring, two soccer fields in the fall, multiple sports leagues, a perimeter jogging track, outdoor exercise equipment, snack bar, and four picnic tables. The Community Center, which was built in 1981, houses an auditorium, dance room, meeting room and a City operated Preschool room.

Community meetings, social gatherings, rentals and a variety of City sponsored recreation classes and programs are also held in these rooms.

The Beverly Hills City Council has expressed an ongoing interest in assessing the public’s desire for making improvements to La Cienega Park and Community Center. For the next several months, the City will gather feedback in a variety of inclusive ways. Public input is a valuable part of the planning process and we want to hear from you!

To learn about upcoming meetings or share ideas for the La Cienega Park and Community Center, visit www.BeverlyHills.org/LaCienega or call 310.285.2537.

Basic Flaky Pie DoughMakes: One 10-inch tart or pie shells

175 grams all-purpose flour75 grams whole wheat or rye flour8 ounces salted butter¼ teaspoon salt80 ml cold water1. Mix flours and salt and pour out onto counter.2. Slice sticks of butter lengthwise into 4-5 leaves with

bench scraper.3. Set butter into flour, turning to coat all sides.4. Use heal of hand to smear butter across counter

into the flour, use bench scraper to bring pile back together. Repeat 3-4 times until butter has formed flakes in the flour. Do not over mix.

5. You will have a loose dough with some unblended flour.

6. Add ice cold water in 3 stages, combining gently with hands. Dough should just barely come together.

7. Wrap in plastic wrap and place in refrigerator for 30 minutes.

8. Laminate dough. Roll dough left to right into a rectangle about 10" x 6". Keep shifting dough so it doesn't stick to board, don't be afraid to use lots of flour.

9. Dust flour off of rectangle and fold inward into 3 like a letter.

10. Rotate dough so that folds are on right and left and roll out dough away from you into rectangle once more.

11. Fold again into 3. 12. Cut dough in half, wrap in plastic wrap and put back

to chill for 1 hour or until needed.
