City Staff Attends the Flagler County Transit Development Plan Workshop

City staff attended the Flagler County Transit Development Plan workshop at the Community Center. The

Transit Development Plan outlines the services to be provided by Flagler County Public Transportation. In

addition to near-term services, the document will include analysis of potential future services which may be

provided in Flagler County including fixed route transit services. A draft of the proposed Plan will be

available for review in 2 weeks.

Drainage Pipe Installation – Slumber Meadow Trail

Streets Maintenance

Currently mowing the neighborhoods of Seminole Woods Blvd, Palm Coast Pkwy and all

neighborhoods.

Performed site distance trimming along Clubfield Drive for traffic driving safety.

25 lane miles of curb and gutter mechanically swept and cleared of debris on main arterial

roadways.

Inspected street lights and reported seven outages to FPL for repair.

Continuing the installation of underdrains at the Indian Trails Sports fields, completed 300

linear feet this week.

Performed fire mitigation mowing on three City-owned parcels on Raeland Ln., Fellshire

Ln., and Florida Park Dr.

Completed sidewalk inspections for pedestrian safety in the “E” neighborhood for a total of

5,280 linear feet.

Annual street resurfacing project continues milling and resurfacing on the scheduled roads

in the “E” and “R” sections.

Excavation and grading completed at the NE corner of SR 100 and Bulldog Drive. Further

demolition will continue next week.

Staff is currently repainting Community Center.

Fresh Coat of Paint at Community Center

Stormwater Maintenance

Graded and stabilized 4,259 linear feet of residential swale.

Refurbished 1,892 linear feet of right-of-way for swale rehabilitation.

Cleaned 143 culvert pipes for a total of 3,718 linear feet.

Mowed and weeded 42,775 linear feet of ditches in the “E” and “P” neighborhoods.

Applied herbicide to 6,000 linear feet of ditches in the “W” neighborhood.

Removed and replaced 180 linear feet of pipe crossing on Slumber Meadow Trail and

Slowdrift Turn.

Repaired a concrete drainage outfall next to 90 Whippoorwill Drive.

Parks & Facility Maintenance

Inspected 39,852 linear feet of park hiking trails and 296 trail signs.

Along Belle Terre Pkwy and Pine Lakes Pkwy inspected 19 irrigation zones, adjusted times,

replaced/repaired irrigation spray heads within the roadway medians.

Inspected 25 irrigation zones and replaced 2 decoders at Indian Trails Middle School;

inspected 30 irrigation zones, repaired two 1” line breaks, and replaced one spray head at

Indian Trails Sports Complex.

Top dressed soccer fields #9 and #10 at Indian Trails Middle School.

All playgrounds (6) were leveled.

Staff hosted Employee Academy at Water Treatment Plant #3 this week.

Development Order for Bank of America to Make ADA Related Changes

Bank of America located at 4850 Belle Terre Parkway was issued a Development Order for Application 2901 to make

ADA related changes to parking spaces and sidewalks on the north side of the building. These changes include grading

changes to the sidewalk in front of the building to meet maximum slopes for ADA accessibility, a new location for the

public sidewalk connection and pedestrian crosswalk, and resurfacing and restriping of standard and accessible parking

spaces to meet current accessibility requirements. The changes resulted in the loss of one parking space.

installation of FP&L primary conduit to new transformer.

Installation of drywall on interior walls, mechanical duct

work & VAV damper installation, electrical conduit rough-in

and fire sprinkler piping are all 98% complete. Painting of

interior and exterior walls continues. Floor tile in bathrooms

continues. Mechanical system startup occurred. Parking lot

curbing completed. Irrigation installation began.

Widening on the north side of the parkway almost complete.

Your dog must be leashed at all times when on the beach and even in the water. There are many pet friendly beaches in this county and we would like everyone to be able to enjoy them. Donation Opportunities: The Flagler Humane Society are still collecting shoes. We welcome all shoes regardless of size, type, or condition. Additional drop off locations can be found on the Flagler Humane Society website. “Doghouse Donation Boxes” are found at all the fire stations in Flagler County. You can drop off donations anytime at your nearest fire station. FHS appreciates all donations, especially those from our Wish List (available at flaglerhumanesociety.org/wish-list). You can also purchase items via the Amazon.com link on the FHS website and ship them directly to the shelter. Outreach Adoption Events: Don’t forget that FHS have volunteers and adoptable pets at the Farmer’s Market in Flagler Beach every Friday and at PetSmart in Palm Coast every Saturday and Sunday. We are actively looking for volunteers that would be willing to man a booth at Walmart on September 19-20, and October 17-18. T Bone is an awesome young man that gets along with most other dogs

and doesn’t mind cats! He is approximately 7 years young and

already neutered. He is up to date on his vaccinations and microchipped. He is a very sweet boy with some

minor separation issues. He would need a home where the pet owner works from the home because he can’t stand to be alone. His foster

mom says he is perfect in the house!

“Autumn Trails 5K Run” – Saturday, Sept. 12. The Palm

Coast Running Series offers experienced and novice runners a

year-round opportunity to compete, or walkers to enjoy

exhilarating walks, through some of the beautiful parks and

trails in Palm Coast.

Registration is now under way for the first race of the new

Running Series year, the Autumn Trails 5K Run/Walk. This

run begins at the Palm Coast Community Center, 305 Palm Coast Parkway NE, and runs along

picturesque and shady St. Joe Walkway in the vicinity of Linear Park. The Run/Walk will begin

at 7:45 a.m., and the Kids Fun Run will begin at 8:45 a.m. The 5K Run/Walk is also an event for

the Palm Coast & the Flagler Beaches Senior Games. To register for that Senior Games event,

Palm Coast and the Flagler Beaches Senior Games – Competition in 14 different sports

for people ages 50 and older. This “Local Games” event is sanctioned by the Florida Sports

Discover Trips – Wednesday, Oct. 14, “Museum of Military History”

Our first trip of the season will take us to the Museum of Military History located at 5210 W. Irlo

Bronson Memorial Highway, Kissimmee, FL 34746. Our visit will include a 1.5 hour guided

tour with 30 minutes afterwards to browse through the Museum at your leisure. We will stop for

lunch after our visit to the Museum. Lunch is at the participant’s expense.

The mission at the Museum of Military History is to educate, increase awareness, build

knowledge and understanding of the American military experience through interactive,

interpretive exhibits designed for visitors of all ages. Exhibits include the Civil War through the

current conflicts of United States military.

airliner to return home after a football game in North Carolina, when the jet crashed and 75

members of Marshall's football squad and athletic staff tragically died. A story of survival and

AARP Driver Safety Program – Friday, September 18 from 9a-4p at the Palm Coast

Community Center. The nation's first and largest classroom course for motorists ages 50 and

older. This course identifies ways that older driver s can compensate for the physical changes

that occurs as they age. The course provides research based information to help older drivers

update their driving knowledge and skills. To register contact AARP Representative Mary Jane

Wood Carvers – Tuesdays from 1-4p at the Palm Coast Community Center. The art of

woodcarving has a history that spans centuries. At its core, woodcarving transforms a piece of

wood into a masterfully crafted work of art. Join this group of gifted carvers as they share their

skill and know how in this informal teaching atmosphere. The woodcarving group is a mixed

group of men and women at all levels and abilities. Visitors are welcome.

Game Day Social – Thursdays from 12:30-4p at the Palm Coast Community Center. As the

name suggests, Game Day Social is comprised of a lively, spirited group of individuals who

enjoy the camaraderie and competition of dominos, a variety of card games or board games.

Participants are encouraged to bring their favorite game or play one provided by the Parks and

Re: Week in Review

The average water demand for the week was 7.406 million gallons per day; the average

wastewater flow was 5.353 million gallons per day.

Crews installed 7 new domestic meters and set up 1 dewatering system for a PEP tank install.

This week 267 utility customers were shut off for non-payment.

There were a total of 32 calls after hours.

Royal Palms Reclaim Project – The connection to the west line and to the east line and under the

FPL line was completed. Located the bore on the south side of the canal and installed pipe for

flushing. Flushed the line from Cigar Lake to Belle Terre Parkway, graded and cleaned up the

north side to Belle Terre Parkway.

Wastewater completed the service lateral for a new home on Bannbury Lane this week and

opened the road.

Water Distribution crews made 2 water service line repairs, 3 water service line replacements, 3

meter pit/manifold repairs, 27 meter pit/manifold adjustments, 50 testing and repairing backflow

preventers, and 1 hydrant repair.

Wastewater Maintenance and Collection crews repaired one service lateral and made 2 service

taps. Crews also replaced16 PEP pumps and 13 floats. Replaced 6 clean out caps, and 2 PEP

tank back lids.

The Inflow and Infiltration crew inspected via CCTV 1,450 feet of gravity sewer, cleaned 2,000

feet of mains and cleaned 6 manholes.

Find Your Pace as new year begins in Palm Coast Running Series

Palm Coast – Eight runs ranging from 5Ks to a half marathon will make up a new year of the

Palm Coast Running Series, which will kick off Sept. 12 with the Autumn Trails 5K Run/Walk.

This is the fifth year of competition for the series, and the City of Palm Coast’s final year to

manage the Running Series. At the completion of the 2015-2016 series, Flagler Sheriff’s PAL

will take over operation and management of the Palm Coast Running Series.

“Flagler Sheriff’s PAL, with its 5K held each spring at European Village, has been a strong

partner with us on the Palm Coast Running Series, and we are very pleased to have PAL take

the reins of this annual competition,” said Luanne Santangelo, Director of Parks & Recreation

for the City of Palm Coast. “The running community has been incredibly supportive of the series,

and we’re looking forward to the continuation of the series under PAL’s leadership next spring.”

The Palm Coast Running Series offers experienced and novice runners a year-round

opportunity to compete, or walkers to enjoy exhilarating walks, through some of the beautiful

parks and trails in Palm Coast. The series includes distances of 5K, 15K and Half Marathon,

along with Kids Fun Runs and 1 Mile options.

Runners and walkers can participate in as many or as few races as they choose, and awards

are given for each race. In addition, the Running Series offers a series-long competition with

associated point system and the presentation of Running Series awards.

Road closure, lane closures planned for Old Kings Road & Matanzas Woods Parkway intersection Palm Coast – The following road closures and lane closures are required within the next couple of weeks for the construction of the Palm Harbor Parkway Extension project:

On Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 17 and 18, motorists and other travelers should expect lane closures on Old Kings Road in the vicinity of the Matanzas Woods Parkway intersection. A single lane will remain open at all times.

On Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 19 and 20, motorists and other travelers should expect a complete road closure on Old Kings Road and Matanzas Woods Parkway in the vicinity of the Matanzas Woods intersection. Matanzas Woods Parkway will be closed at Bird of Paradise allowing eastbound traffic to Matanzas High School only. Travelers heading south on Old Kings Road at the U.S. 1 intersection will be notified that Old Kings Road is open to local traffic only. Old Kings Road will be closed at the Forest Grove Drive intersection allowing northbound traffic to Matanzas High School only.

From Friday, August 21, through Sunday, August 23, motorists and other travelers should expect lane closures on Old Kings Road and Matanzas Woods Parkway in the vicinity of the Matanzas Woods/Old Kings Road intersection. A single lane will remain open at all times.

The City of Palm Coast strives for safe construction zones. Travelers need to be aware of heavy equipment and stay within the limits of the traffic control devices, such as orange cones and barrels.
