Dental disease is often a hidden disease until it is painful. Many pets do not give any signs that they are suffering from it until it is time to seek veterinary help. Dental disease if left untreated can lead to more serious issues for your pet so it should not be ignored. Any type of dental issues should be taken care of as soon as it is noticed. A bad or abscessed tooth can lead to weight loss due to not eating. Infections in the mouth can lead to further infections in other parts of the body. Dentals should be part of your regular maintenance routine for your pets. Donation Opportunities: The Flagler Humane Society Thrift Store are always taking in donations. They currently cannot take in any computers/printers or large appliances at this time. Call 386-597-2839 and leave a message. FHS is conducting our annual shoe drive. We welcome any used shoes – in any condition. Check out the FHS website for more information on drop off locations if you are unable to bring them to the shelter. “Doghouse Donation Boxes” are found at all the fire stations in Flagler County. You can drop off donations anytime at your nearest fire station. FHS appreciates all donations, especially those from our Wish List (available at flaglerhumanesociety.org/wish-list). You can also purchase items via the Amazon.com link on the FHS website and ship them directly to the shelter. Outreach Adoption Events: Don’t forget that FHS have volunteers and adoptable pets at the Farmer’s Market in Flagler Beach every Friday and at PetSmart in Palm Coast every Saturday and Sunday. If you are interested in volunteering at these events, please contact Katie at [email protected]. Adoption Specials: Check the FHS Website for upcoming specials. Upcoming Fundraisers/Events: We hope to see you at the FHS 2nd Annual Pet Fair and Adoption Event! It is scheduled for May 7th and is hosted by PetSmart on SR 100. PAST WEEK HIGHLIGHTS:

Indoor Rowing It’s a Hit!!!! Our new indoor rowing exercise program was introduced to the community this past

Monday, April 18. With a limit of 10 participants, the class quickly filled to capacity with interested,

future participants placed on a waiting list. Our next class will begin in June.

Frieda Zamba Swimming Pool Members of our local youth swim team, Daytona Beach Speed and our adult Masters Swim Club waited

anxiously for the season opening of the Frieda Zamba Swimming Pool. On Monday, April 18, the gates

were opened for the season. Our staff warmly greeted our faithful swimmers to the new season at FZ

    Pool.

As we prepare to expand our aquatics operations, staff met with the American Red Cross to discuss re-

certification and licensing of our facility. Our Head Lifeguard will pursue the Water Safety Instructor

Trainer certification which will enable our facility to host a WSI course at our pool. Staff has also

completed the paperwork to renew our certification as an official licensed provider of the American Red

Cross Learn to Swim program. Visit www.palmcoastgov.com for a complete schedule of learn to swim

    classes.

FYSA State Cup Soccer Tournament Indian Trails Sports Complex was host to the Round 2, Part 1 of the

Florida Youth Soccer Association State Cup. 52 teams traveled from all

areas of Central Florida to participate. The Round of 16 will be held at

  • FEATURED EVENTS:

Palm Coast Spring Championships - Recruited by the Flagler County Tourist Development Council and presented by Triple Crown Sports for competitive, traveling baseball teams “8 and under”

through “14 and under” will be held April 23 and 24 at Indian Trails Sports Complex, the Flagler County

Recreational Area and Matanzas High School.

Triple Crown started in 1982 and has grown to be a national presence in the sports tournament market,

with some 300 youth events across the country each year, in baseball, basketball, drift car racing, fast-

pitch, slow-pitch softball, and volleyball. The company is family owned and employs nearly 60 full-time

staff in its corporate headquarters in Fort Collins, Colorado. Its franchises employ about 400 additional

employees to produce events such as the tournaments planned for Flagler County in April and May.

Insane Inflatable Being held on April 23 in and around Town

Center, participants can find information at

    http://insaneinflatable5k.com/palm-coast-fl/.

As described from the Insane Inflatable website,

“The Insane Inflatable course is one like you’ve never experienced in any other race. We

spent countless hours huddled together trying to make each obstacle as unique, challenging,

and most importantly — FUN — as possible. The course length will always be

approximately a 5K distance (3.1 miles), yet each venue provides its own unique terrain.

Ideally, you’ll complete the course without worrying who is the fastest, most skilled or

talented. Some may say we’re INSANE, but if wanting everyone who comes to our party to

have fun – even if that means walking from obstacle to obstacle to conserve energy for the

inflatable fun that lies ahead, then lock us up in the mad house! The event is NOT timed, so

go out and enjoy the course, but if you can’t tame your competitive side and think you can

blaze on through the fastest – more power to you!”

    Re: Week in Review

The average water demand for the week was 7.783 million gallons per day; the average

wastewater flow was 5.608 million gallons per day.

Crews installed 15 new domestic water meters and 3 new PEP tanks and replaced 1 tank.

There were a total of 29 calls after hours.

This week there were 105 disconnects for non-payment.

Wastewater completed smoke testing 23,812 feet of gravity sewer in Section 16 (Colechester). Replaced 20 cleanout caps.

Water distribution installed new chemical feed line on the discharge pipe at water treatment plant #2. The water main was about 10 feet deep which required dewatering and shoring to

    complete the excavation.

Wastewater Maintenance completed 12 pep maintenance and 66 service orders. Replaced 17

    pep pumps and 17 floats.

Water Distribution crews replaced 9 water services lines (retrofit), repaired 2 service lines and tested and repaired 70 backflow preventers.

S.E. Cline Construction completed the repair of 35’ of collapsed gravity sewer main on Universal and Underwood Trail. This project ran over for more than three weeks due to

dewatering issues and finding additional failed pipe.

On April 14, 2016 made a repair to a fire hydrant and 2 meter pits on Fernmill Lane that were damaged by car running off the road.
