The Cornel West Academy of Excellence is a youth leadership program in Raleigh, NC.The program works with young minority males between the 2nd and 6th grade. On Nov 4th, 2009Dr. Cornel West travelled to Raleigh to as a guest of the academy to hold a fundraising lecture.A LOT sponsored 10 seats for youth that wanted to attend the event.
Hip Hop Haven is a nonprofit organization in Raleigh. The organization developed and implementedA reading program for elementary school minority students in Wake County. The program recruitedAfrican American men to volunteer as Reading Buddies. A LOT provided a $1000 grant to assist the program.
On May 14, 2010 the Cornel West Academy of Excellence held its first “Black Male Identity Forum.”Dr. Cornel West and Prof. Mark Anthony Neal were the keynote speakers during the event. Prior to theEvent, the academy held a private luncheon for sponsor and special guests. A LOT stepped up and Sponsored the event.
