Strategy & Mission – high-quality assets leading us to world-class performance.

Leading market positionsWe are building on leading market positions in uncoated fi ne paper and packaging, particularly in emerging markets with sustained above-average growth potential.
High-quality, low-cost asset baseWe aim to be the lowest-cost producer in our industry, by selectively investing in production capacity in lower-cost regions and by exploiting the benefi ts of upstream integration (including forestry) across our operations.
Focus on performanceContinuous improvements in productivity and cost-cutting are institutionalised disciplines at Mondi, delivered through a range of business excellence programmes and rigorous asset management.
GrowthWe continue to focus on value-enhancing growth through a combination of organic expansion and acquisitions.
Our business strategy has four principal components that are consistent with our goal of being the world’s top-performing paper and packaging group.
At Mondi, our mission is straightforward: to be a leading business with the highest ethical standards and to deliver exceptional value for our customers, employees, communities and shareholders.
As one of the world’s leading paper and packaging producers, we are committed to:• meeting and exceeding our customers’ requirements for product and service quality as well as cost-competitiveness;• providing a secure working environment in which our people can fulfi l their ambitions and continually improve their circumstances; • acting as a responsible employer and citizen in the communities where we operate, and managing natural resources with care, sensitivity and expertise;• achieving sustainable, profi table growth through a focus on business excellence and strategic expansion in some of the world’s most exciting markets.
Best practices: Major investmentsTo bolster our leading positions in our chosen markets, we are focusing on two major investment projects in Russia and Poland:
Syktyvkar, RussiaThis EUR 525 million project involves the extensive modernisation and expansion of our pulp and paper mill. Start-up will be in the second half of 2010. The main value drivers of the project are:
• Improved effi ciency • Lower cost base in Russia • Increased energy production
S wiecie, PolandTo meet the corrugated industry’s increasing demand for excellent lightweight liners and fl utings, we are setting up a lightweight recycled containerboard machine at Mondi S wiecie in Poland. The principals benefi ts for customers will be
cost-savings through lightweighting of packaging. Also under construction at the site is a state-of-the-art corrugated plant. Start-up of this EUR 350 million investment will be at the end of 2009.
