Mass Intentions From the Pastor’s Desk
Teaching of our faith in God.
Are you struggling to believe in God in Jesus in the church?
Have you found yourself drifting away from mass, from
family, from practice of your faith?
Have you been planning to ‘get back’ to church, but just
have not done it?
Join us for the adult education, renewal of faith. Contact
Fr. Kelley at the rectory.
Pope Francis said. “Christians are not made in a laboratory, but in a community called the church”.
My friend, Fr. Jerry Osterman, likes to say: “faith is caught, not taught”. He emphasizes the im-portant fact of good example and deeds of kindness draw up to believe in God. Each of us can trace her or his faith back to parents, grandparents, teachers or friends. Think about it. We are attracted to God by how believers around us act towards us. We do not come to be God’s friends and brothers and sisters of Jesus all by oneself. This develops in our families, our parishes, our schools. Faith is like a lovely varnish on wood. Every year the wood needs a new coat of var-nish, so does our faith need renewal each day, each month, each year.
"It is through our brothers and sisters with their gifts and their limits," the pope said, "that God comes to us and makes himself known. This is what belonging to the church means. Remember: Being Christian means belonging to the church. If your first name is Christian, your last name is a Member of the Church."
Here in Sacred Heart parish in Roslindale we are building a ‘church’ who is ‘making Christians’.
We speak of ourselves coming from over 40 countries and cultures of our world. We struggle to welcome and accept and understand each other. By our service and our worship and our learning in our parish and in our school, we become Christians. Make time in your prayers to pray for one another. A very good way for you and me to ‘make Christians’ is through teaching our religion, what we call ‘catechetics’. We need you to serve as a teacher or a teacher’s aide in our instructions for children adolescents and adults. Ms. Dot D’Amato and Ms. Pat Girvan our religion
coordinators need your assistance. Join us in this
church building activity this fall. Msgr. Frank Kelley

Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time
Isaiah is speaking on behalf of the Lord, directly
to us: “...proclaim my glory among the nations.” This might seem like too much of a challenge.
Take a few minutes to ask God to whom should you be proclaiming God’s glory? Is it a family member, a co-worker or a friend? Tell YOUR
story of the importance of Jesus in your life. And, in case we think that task is for someone else, the
Church in her wisdom reminds each one of us in today’s psalm refrain: “Go out to all the world
and tell the good news!”
The St. Vincent de Paul Society at Sacred Heart
is here to help you. If you, or someone you
know, is in need of assistance, please call us at
the parish.

Today’s Liturgy
I must go back to the first reading in the
Book of Genesis on July 28 when Abraham asked the Lord if he would spare the city of Sodom from
destruction for as few as ten innocent people. Here the Lord is compassionate to just the few innocent people among the many guilty. And
here in today's gospel we find that the Lord has locked the door to those he doesn't know suppos-
edly saying only a few will be strong enough to enter the narrow gate.
I think there is a simple message here. The
narrow gate is how we conduct our lives here on
earth that gives us the invitation to heaven at our
time of death. Our lives are very simple in the Lord’s eyes. Do good deeds! He asks us to be giv-ing to one another, have faith and be thankful for
all we have. So, is it the truth that back in the Book of Genesis and in Luke's Gospel that there
are so few of us that God will spare the city and He also knows that we will make it through the
narrow gate because of our strength in our faith? It just could be. Our compassionate God gives us chances every day to do the good works of the
Lord. How many times have you passed up the chance?
Our world today is full of opportunity to
do the right thing. Sometimes I think we are
afraid to act because the pressure from society is
to look the other way. We need to acknowledge
our surroundings and look to see how we can
make a difference. Offering a little help each day
will put a smile on someone's face as well as the
Lord's face. Let's turn that narrow gate into a
highway to heaven. Bob LePore

Sacred Heart School: A STREAM Innovator What is STREAM? STREAM is an integrated curriculum
encompassing Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering,
the Arts, and Mathematics. Scholars at Sacred Heart, from
Pre-School to 8th Grade, incorporate skills from each of
these areas in their work. In the spring, the school showcas-
es this effort in an all-school STREAM night, where each
grade presents collaborative projects that represent their
studies and bring together level-appropriate examples of the
various disciplines. The STREAM curriculum focuses on
critical thinking, a resilient learning through failure and suc-
cess, and collaboration—all skills for a 21st century citizen.
Come by and see what STREAM learning does for our
young scholars!
