AGING GRACEFULLY Please join us for this year’s Aging Gracefully in the Lord Program. Our next conference will be Wednesday, February 13th at 9:30 am in the Nielsen Room in the Lower Church Hall. Our topic for this conference will be: “Balancing Our Lives”.
FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME February 10, 2019
“Woe is me, I am doomed! For I am a man of unclean lips, living among people of unclean lips; yet my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts! He touched my mouth…and said ‘See now, that this has touched your lips, your wickedness is removed, your sin purged.’ Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? Who will go for me?’ ‘Here I am, I said, send me.’” The call of the prophet and the new vocation of the fishermen can be the image of the call that Jesus
makes for us today. We need to respond to the invitation He graciously gives us, to be sent to announce His message. It is easy for us to make excuses, to hesitate, or
even flee. The ‘unclean lips’ of Isaiah were purified to prepare him for his role. Our own lips are unclean when we use them to criticize, speak ill of others, or complain, or even use bad language. We can use the same tongue to pray, praise and show others His presence in our lives. Peter speaks for us all as he says: ‘but at your command I will lower the nets.’ What a surprise, leading him to the humble confession ‘depart from me Lord for I am a sinful man.’ Jesus responds with the familiar phrase ‘Do not be afraid…from now on…they followed Him.’ May we identify with Isaiah, seeking what the Lord asks of us. May we leave our tangled nets, acknowledge the Lord’s call and forgiveness, and follow Him. ******************************
BEREAVEMENT GROUP There will be a Bereavement Support Group Mondays, until March 25th from 1pm - 2:30pm at St. Augustine Church, Larchmont.
Stop the Press!! Set aside Sunday evening, March 10th through Wednesday night, March 13th for a mission being held in our parish. Catholic Lay Missionary and Evangelist, Bill Wegner, from Good News International will be leading this year’s mission. It will be a special time of renewal for our entire community. Plan to be there and bring a friend!
6th ANNUAL MARCH MADNESS HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL
LEAGUE Resurrection CYO is once again hosting a High School Boys Basketball League in the month of March. The program is open to all HS boys ages 14-18. The 10 game season will tip-off on Thursday, February 28 and will end Sunday March 31. Games will be on Thursdays and Sundays at 7, 8 or 9pm in the Doty gym. Go to www.resurrectioncyo.com to register.
“PLEASE FORGIVE ME!” Throughout history, there has been only one person who never made mistakes. The rest of us make plenty but few of us are comfortable with asking for forgiveness for them. Yet owning up to our mistakes is a big step toward preventing their recurrence. Try this:
Start by looking at the other person when you apologize. This communicates that you know you have caused harm and are ready to accept the consequences of your behavior.
Name the actions for which you are sorry. Be specific. Assure the other person that the actions won’t happen again and detail the steps you will take to rectify any harm you caused. Remember – true contrition involves making amends for your sin.
Give some visible sign that you are sincerely sorry. Shake hands or give a touch on the shoulder. Such an action will help start the healing of your relationship. Taking steps to achieve sincere contrition and forgiveness will help you grow in holiness as you work to eliminate an occasion of sin.
BOOK CLUB All are invited to the Bible Book Club on Thursday, February 21st at 7:30 pm - 8:30pm. The group meets monthly in the Resurrection Middle School Library. February’s book is the second half of “Jesus and the Jewish Roots of Mary” by Brant Pitre. If you have any questions, please contact Ed Matthews at [email protected] or (914) 967-3149.
