From the pastor… Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time – Ominous indeed are Jesus’ predictions of what faithful disciples will face. Challenging are his expectations of how courageous we should be. Jesus is straightfor-ward about our obligation to bear witness in a dangerous and cyni-cal world. His warning is matched to the first reading from Jere-miah. Often, when the Gospel issue is the cost of discipleship, we hear from that prophet whose life was a testimony to fidelity in the face of rejection and cruelty. Less dramatic, but no less painful, is the experience of anyone who today dares to defend Catholic teaching on a wide spectrum of moral or social issues. But our obligation to do so derives from our Baptism, which anoints us to the prophetic office and from Confirmation, which strengthens us for witnessing by gift of the Holy Spirit. The “whispers” Jeremiah heard, especially from those he thought were his friends, are famil-iar to anyone who takes seriously discipleship’s call to bear wit-ness. “Et Missa est” – Go, you are sent. Next Sunday is the 13 Sunday in Ordinary Time. The Read-ings at Mass will be taken from: 2 Kings 4:8-11, 14-16, Romans 6:3-4, 8-11, Matthew 10:37-42. Come prepared! We wish to thank Ligaya & Wade Kates for beautifying the grounds of God’s house. One can’t approach our church without noticing the fruit of their labor. Thank you so much! Are you interested or curious about possibly becoming a Catholic? Or do you know someone living in the area of Statesville, Harmony or Troutman who has expressed interest in our faith? Now is the time to call Fr. Kessler – 704-681-4860 or Raquel 704-880-7940 so as to inquire about the RCIA Class which will be forming at the end of August. I will meet with you personally and privately to discuss your questions, etc. Don’t be bashful or wait until the last minute. As we begin our 4th month of this coronavirus, we need to look for volunteers to serve at Mass as Lectors and Extra-Ordinary Ministers of the Eucharist. If you are willing to help us and give it a chance, please call Paula at the office at 704-872-2579 or Fr. at 704-681-4860. Jesus came to serve, please consider do-ing the same at Mass. The North Carolina Dept. of Transportation has informed us that a noise wall will be constructed along I-77 and our property to lesson traffic noise and to protect our air quality. Faith Formation Classes – are now accepting registrations for the 2020-2021 academic year. If you wish your children to re-ceive their 1st Holy Communion or Confirmation, now is the time to register. In spite of the pandemic, we are proceeding as nor-mal. God forbid, that there be a break-out of the coronavirus, as happened last spring, then we will cross that bridge, when we get there. See Religious Education on the next page for further infor-mation. The children should be registered by August 2nd, but no registrations will be accepted after Sunday, August 23rd. A Coronavirus parish meeting was held on Monday, June 8th, with 20 parish leaders present, to recommend how to proceed in this time of a pandemic. As always, God has been incredibly good to our parishioners. At no time have we locked our doors or denied Mass or the Eucharist to our parishioners. AND NO ONE HAS CONTRACTED THE CORONAVIRUS AS A RESULT OF GOING TO MASS. We pray for God’s continued protec-tion. A parishioner proposed that all parishioners be requested to wear masks. At the meeting, it was suggested that parishioners with masks sit on one side of the church, and those who don’t wish to wear masks on the other side of the church. It was deter-mined that this would be difficult to implement. Most people don’t like to be told what to do and no one is willing to tell peo-ple that they need to move to the other side of the church. There-fore, the vote was unanimous that people are to be free to take their own precautions. With the size of our church, social dis-tancing is not a problem.
