Meeting Christ in Prayer“Then you will call upon me and come to me and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” - Jeremiah 29:12-13

Prayer is at the heart of our relationship with God. In prayer, we become present to the One who is already present to us! Prayer and the Eucharist are two

powerful ways of becoming “present” to Jesus and allowing Christ to transform us.

Lent, which begins on March 9th, Ash Wednesday, is a season of transformation, metanoia, conversion. Traditionally, we embrace prayer, fasting, and almsgiving as gateways to the conversion or transfor-mation that we need. St. Ignatius Loyola showed people how meditative prayer that is focused on the life of Jesus can lead us to greater freedom by helping us to listen to the Holy Spirit and to recognize our true desires. Our deepening relationship with Jesus helps us to live more intentionally as Christians and to bring the Spirit into the world. To support our parishioners in their growth in prayer, our Parish will offer a retreat program during Lent.

MEETING CHRIST IN PRAYER is an interactive eight week guided prayer experience for small groups. Based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola, it introduces participants to various ways of praying and provides an opportunity to support one another through faith sharing.

Who can participate? The program is designed to serve many groups of people: • Those at all levels of experience with prayer • Those who are hungry for a deeper spiritual life • Those who are seeking spiritual renewal • Those looking to form regular prayer habits or new ways of praying • Those who desire the support of a community of faith • Those who want to be more aware of God’s presence in daily life

session from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. There are no meetings on March 17th or April 21st. The cost of the program is a sliding scale from $30 to $50 and covers allmaterials. Scholarships are available.

THIS WEEK AT A GLANCE

The 2011 Archdiocesan Stewardship Appeal

Dear Parishioners,

Your participation in the Archdiocesan Stewardship Appeal will directly impact the lives of people throughout

the Archdiocese of New York with programs and ministries that reach beyond the scope of any individual parish. Our collective gifts make these ministries possible. Please prayerfully consider how you can share your blessings in gratitude to God for all He has given you.

Invest in our Archdiocesan faith community and make your gift to the 2011 Archdiocesan Stewardship Appeal.

Fr. George Witt, S.J.Gifts can be made online at www.stewardshipappeal.org

Thank you for your generosity!

Thank-You! This past November, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul sponsored its annual Thanksgiving Food Drive benefiting the Yorkville Common

Pantry (YCP). As always, our parishioners responded generously. Recently we received the following letter from the YCP Executive Director:

Dear Rev. Witt,

Thank you for your generous gift of 710 lbs. of food donated on November 18, 2010.

This year, our 30th year of operation, the Yorkville Common Pantry expects to provide 2.2 million meals to low-income and struggling New York families. Our Pantry Programs help 1600 to 1800 families every week to put food on the table for all the members of their household. We also provide a variety of services that help our clients maintain a level of dignity.

Thank you for your support, which allows us to continue providing the quantity and quality of services we do. Sincerely, Stephen Grimaldi Executive Director
