ALLELUIA! ALLELUIA! Christ is risen from the dead! Our read-ings remind us that this acclamation is about more than looking back. They also anticipate the time when our lives will be united with Christ in glory.

In our First Reading, Peter gives a speech at the home of Cornelius, a Ro-man centurion and proselyte to Judaism who had been prompted in a vision to call Peter to his household. When Peter arrives, he testifies about Jesus’ deeds and about how he died and was raised by God. The phrase “hanging him on a tree” refers to the crucifixion. In Deuter-onomy it says the crucified one is cursed by God. Yet this is not the end. Peter declares, “Everyone who believes in him will receive forgiveness of sins in his name.”

The Gospel’s recounting of Mary Mag-dalene coming upon the empty tomb is interrupted by the story of Peter and the Beloved Disciple arriving at the tomb. The men entered and saw the burial cloths and go home. The verses after the conclusion of today’s Gospel show that only Mary remains at the tomb. Twice she hears, “Woman, why are you weep-ing?” Twice she laments that she cannot find Jesus’ body, but then the Risen Lord calls her by name and she recog-nizes him. He commissions her to go to the disciples as an apostle of the Resur-rection.

The Second Reading addresses the im-pact of Christ’s Resurrection for all of us. Our life is hidden now in Christ, but when he returns we, too, will appear with him in glory.

Alleluia!

A PRAYER FOR EASTER

Alleluia, Alleluia! Hearts to heaven and voices raise.

Sing to God a hymn of gladness,

sing to God a hymn of praise. He who on the cross a victim for the world’s

salvation bled, Jesus Christ, the king of glory, now is risen from

the dead. Alleluia, Christ is risen! Death at last has met defeat. See the

ancient powers of evil in confu-sion and retreat. Once he died and once was buried; now he

lives forevermore—Jesus Christ, the world’s Redeemer, whom we worship and adore.

Amen. Alleluia! Alleluia!

Everyday Stewardship

Easter Sunday

This Easter, in churches all over the world, people will be fully initiated in the Catholic Church. Those who have come from another Christian denomina-tion have already begun their journey with Jesus Christ. But for those who are baptized at the Easter Vigil, a new reali-ty has come to pass. Each newly bap-tized man, woman, and child have be-come new creations in Jesus Christ. They have died and risen with the one who rose on the third day and whose empty tomb we celebrate every Easter. Easter Sunday morning, they awake after many months of RCIA and all have the same question before them: "Now what?" When one finds themselves having jour-neyed through various thresholds of conversion and now they bear the name of Christian, the time comes to chart the course of life as a disciple. Stewardship is that course of life. How one lives out their life from now on is the life of stew-ardship. The less one understands true stewardship and the value of their gifts and talents to the Body of Christ, the harder the journey. Those of us who were baptized many years ago can easily fall into a false sense of comfort. We forget that sense of excitement those coming into the Church experience at the Easter Vigil. However, the story of that empty tomb reminds us of the power behind our bap-tism. Today, we, too, are called to dis-cipleship and a stewardship way of life. Jesus continues to provide the answer to our, "Now what?" -Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS

An Easter Poem to share with you,

“New Life” Spring is here what a relief The Winter time is past It means we can look forward To the lighter nights at last There is New Life all around us Wherever we cast our eye The bulbs are out what beauty We behold as we walk by Their colors are so many White, yellow, pink and blue Purple, orange, red all shades Giving gardens life anew The little lambs are bleating Oh what a lovely sound There are baby chicks enjoying The new freedom they have found This New Life is not limited To nature, don’t you see We too can have a New Life If we come to Calvary And lay our sins on Jesus Who died for you and me He suffered death upon the cross A spotless lamb was He We all can be his little lambs And He our Shepherd, Friend Who never will forsake us On that we can depend So, let’s celebrate this Easter Day The Lord is Risen indeed He has paid the price for all our sin Halleluiah we’ve been freed. By Sue Towler

As we “spring” into Spring this poem reminds us to open our eyes and see the beauty this wonderful world has to of-fer. Let us not hang onto each word of the news, let us hang over the farmers fence to see the new spring birth. Let us open our eyes each day and prep ourselves to find at least one good thing in the day which will put joy into our hearts. Let us mend a fence which may have been long overlooked, let us reach out and hold someone’s hand and tell them how special they are. So, “let’s celebrate this Easter Day, The Lord is Risen indeed.” Peace and Easter Blessings to All, Karyn

SEASONAL REFLECTION

Easter Sunday

Called by Name Mary. Even in the garden of the resurrection, Jesus goes unrec-ognized at first. The Gospel of John records a weeping woman, mistaking the risen savior for a gardener. Until, that is, she is called by name. Mary. Jesus rises for you. He rises for me. He rises for each and every one of us. We are called by name in the gar-den of the resurrection. This Sunday and every Sunday, Jesus comes to meet us. Imagine sitting with him. How is he looking at you? What do you say to him? When the resurrected Lord greets you with a smile, how do you respond?
