Members of the Assessment and Advising Committees will attend a webinar at 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 25, in the VPAA Conference Room, RBAC 166A. The topic is “The Quest for Student Success at Community College. “

There is a great deal of focus on community colleges due to the current interest in increasing the percentage of the adult public with college credentials. Not only do many college freshmen start at community colleges, but those students are more diverse and more disadvantaged than others. This makes community colleges crucial not only to overall college attainment goals, but to related goals to diversify the student body nationally. At many community colleges, completion rates are low and remedial needs are high. As a result, these colleges are currently working on a variety of strategies – involving orientation, registration deadlines, assessment, the curriculum and more – to promote student success.

It is the focus on student success that prompted participation in this webinar. Inside Higher Ed editors Scott Jaschik and Doug Lederman will lead a lively discussion on these issues. There may be some ideas for strategies that could be implemented at Cottey. In addition, community colleges enroll students who could potentially transfer to Cottey to complete a bachelor’s degree.

The webinar is made possible with the support of ETS, a leader in higher education assessment.
