Knowing that each student comes to us with unique and infinite value, we inspire and guide each student’s journey toward self-confidence, purpose, and identity. To help students suc-ceed in that journey, Christchurch, an Episcopal school, provides a sound college preparatory education in a caring, structured community. Part of that education includes stewardship of our river and awareness of the broader natural environment, so that our students learn to look beyond themselves to their place in the world around them. Our core values - curiosity, acceptance, integrity, respect, kindness and self-confidence - are central to our mission and at the heart of everything we do.

aCCReDitationChristchurch School is accredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Schools (VAIS). The Virginia Council for Private Education Commission on Accreditation and the Virginia State Department of Education recognize VAIS as a valid accrediting agency for private schools in the Commonwealth. Christchurch School is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools, the National Association of Episcopal Schools, The Association of Boarding Schools, The National Honor Society, The College Board and the Secondary Schools Admissions Test Board.

To those listed in this report THANK YOU! Christchurch School could not have done it without you. Your generous support in the 2008-09 school year was essential in launching the school’s most ambitious new programming in decades, The Great Journeys Initiative!

Our generous alumni, parents, and friends pledged or gifted nearly $2M to Christchurch in 2008-09. $1.4M of this was for The Campaign for Christchurch School, Join us. The campaign reached $6.6M in the last fiscal year (now $7M) with the Puller Science Center now fully funded, underway, and completion scheduled for May 2010. Annual Giving totaled $544,000, a 5% increase over the previous year. Finally the Parent Silent Auction totaled $55K.

With Great Journeys, we take everything we know about educating students for college in the 21st century; skills emphasis, inquiry based, information fluency, and the meaningful experiences to develop it all; and we marry it to our unique setting along the Rappahannock River. Academics at Christchurch is now “place- based”, fully exploiting our rural, aquatic, and beautiful setting. English, history, fine arts, language, math, and especially science are now studied through the lens of the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Additionally, in 2008-09 co-curriculars now not only include our traditional athletics and waterfront programs, but also a River Immersion course and renewed emphasis on community service and our Episcopal identity.

Ways of Giving

annual GivingAnnual giving strengthens and sustains the extraordinary opportunities of a Christchurch School education. These gifts have an immediate and direct benefit to each student and faculty member, as well as to the quality and range of school programming.

These tax deductible gifts to the Bell Tower Fund or donor designated fund are applied to innovative and challenging academic, athletic and arts programs; recruitment of talented faculty, affordable tuition for students with demonstrated need, small class sizes and individual attention to students, and the latest technology for education.

endowmentEndowment gifts are invested and grow in value and provide a source of income without ever using the principle of the gift. Christchurch School’s endowment is currently at $1.5 million. Endowment gifts of $25,000 or more may be named in memory of, or in honor of, an individual. This is a wonderful way to recognize the special qualities of an individual each year.

Planned GiftsPlanned giving is a way to leave a lasting legacy. Christchurch School has been remembered by many alumni and friends through planned giving. These transforming gifts can be made as simple bequests, in trust, charitable remainder trust or charitable gift annuity.

Matching GiftsMany employers match charitable giving by their staff members. This is a great way to double your gift. Information and specific requirements are available through your company’s human resources department.

The Joseph C. Cameron Society was created in June 1993 to honor one of our school’s most beloved members, Joseph C. Cameron Jr, otherwise known as “Mr. Christchurch.” For forty-five years, Joe’s service and self-sacrifice to “his boys” and our community demonstrated to all the special spirit that exemplifies Christchurch School. The school has come far in its 86 years, but much still remains to be accomplished. If you have a love for our school and benefited from the lessons learned in the classroom, on the playing fields, and on the river, taught by men and women we revered and loved; if you feel we must sustain, enhance and pass these opportunities on to future generations, then please consider including Christchurch School in your estate plan.
