We Wish You Merry Christmas and Happy 2017!
Pope John XXIII’s Christmas Prayer O sweet Child of Bethlehem, grant that we may share with all our hearts in this profound mystery of Christmas. Put into the hearts of men and women this peace for which they sometimes seek so desperately and which you alone can give to them. Help them to know one another better, and to live as brothers and sisters, children of the same Father. Reveal to them also your beauty, holiness and purity. Awaken in their hearts love and gratitude for your infinite goodness. Join them all together in your love. And give us your heavenly peace. Amen. Prayer for Christmas Dinner Eternal God, this joyful day is radiant with the brilliance of your one true light. May that light illuminate our hearts and shine in our words and deeds. May the hope, the peace, the joy, and the love represented by the birth in Bethlehem fill our lives and become part of all that we say and do. May we share the divine life of your son Jesus Christ, even as he humbled himself to share our humanity. Bless us and the Dinner that You have provid-ed for us, let us be thankful for the true gift of Christmas, your Son. Amen.
New Year's Prayer God, thank you for a new year.
May everyone in our family be willing to begin anew with a clean heart.
We know that you are always ready to forgive us. Help us to be willing to forgive ourselves
and to forgive one another.
As we begin a new year, remind us of our true values and our deepest desires.
Help us to live in the goodness that comes from doing what you want us to do.
Help us to put aside anxiety about the future and the past, so that we might live in peace with you now,
one day at a time. Amen.

WHAT IS AN “ACTIVE CATHOLIC”?
For Parish verification for Catholic School admittance, sponsor forms, Baptisms, and Marriages, a person is to be registered and active in the parish. The Archdiocese of Atlanta defines “active parishioners” as those regis-tered and worshipping members who contribute of their time, talent, and financial resources to support the Par-ish by the following: Regular attendance at liturgy as verified by the use of offertory envelopes, consistent financial support through yearly pledge and volunteer involvement within the parish. Volunteer involvement within the parish does not include attendance at events, but requires active membership and participation in one of our many ministries.

WHAT SEASON IS IT?
Christmas Day is actually the beginning of the Christmas Season in our church calendar. The period of preparation
and waiting is now over and it is time for the real celebration to begin!
"The Christmas season runs," notes the General Norms, "from evening prayer I of Christmas until the Sunday after
Epiphany or after 6 January, inclusive"—that is, until the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. Contrary to popular celebra-
tion, the Christmas season does not encompass Advent, nor end with Christmas Day, but begins after Advent ends and
extends into the New Year. The season is celebrated with a special joy throughout the Twelve Days of Christmas, end-
ing with the Epiphany of Our Lord (January 6).

For unto us is born this day a Savior! In response to so great a love, only the gift of my whole self will do. You have given us yourself, dear Lord; in love and thanks-giving, I commit myself afresh to you.
STEWARDSHIP SCRIPTURE REFLECTION - DEC. 25
Today’s second reading reminds us that through Christ we have been delivered from the old law and have become sons and daughters of God. New Year’s Day provides a perfect opportunity to ask ourselves the question: Does my life reflect my gratitude for all that my loving Father has given me?
STEWARDSHIP SCRIPTURE REFLECTION - JAN. 1
The Sunday after Christmas (Jan. 1) is Holy Family Sunday. Under the heading of its “Building the Domestic Church” initiative, the Knights of Columbus Su-preme Chaplain Archbishop William Lori has composed a new prayer through which families may come together to consecrate themselves under the pro-
tection of the Holy Family. Father Herrera is inviting attendees at all Masses to participate in the act of consecration after the closing prayer and just be-fore the final blessing. The Knights will distribute prayer cards as people enter church.
HOLY FAMILY WEEKEND
The twelve days of Christmas begin on Christmas Day and end on January 6 with the Feast of Epiphany also called "The Adoration of the Magi" or "The Manifestation of God" also known as the day of the Three Kings (or wise men/magi): Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar. These three kings saw, on the night when Christ was born, a bright star, followed it to Bethlehem and found there the Christchild and presented him with gold, frankincense and myrrh. January 6, the last day of Christmas, comes with its own traditions, rituals and symbols. In many Latin American
countries there is also a culinary treat that is specific to the holiday. Known as 'Rosca de Reyes' (King's Cake or Epiphany Bread), this holiday dessert offers much in the way of symbolism. Shaped in the round to signify a king's crown, this sweet bread holds a special surprise. Baked inside is a small plastic figurine representing the baby Jesus. Whoever finds this token is obligated to host an upcoming party for the occasion of 'Dia de la Candelaria' (Candlemas Day) which oc-curs each year on February 2nd. The reason Jesus is 'hidden' inside the bread is to symbolize how in life, the Christ child's birth location also needed to remain secret, in order that his life be spared from King Herod when he ordered his minions to murder all male infants recently born in Bethlehem.
FELIZ NAVIDAD!!
