Confirmation Service Projects
Confirmation Teens will participate in at least 4 Service Projects during both years
of preparation.
The purpose of Service during Confirmation preparation is to demonstrate the
close relationship between faith and action. The Confirmandi can identify, develop
and place his/her gifts and talents at the service of others. Service should be an
intentional part of Christian formation from the time of our Baptism until the time
of our Death. The focus is to develop growth as a disciple who can generously
identify and respond to the needs of others.
SERVICE PROJECTS OFFERED FOR CONFIRMATION CANDIDATES:
Vacation Bible School volunteer
CCE Catechist aide (counts for two projects)
Spaghetti Dinner (cooking and set-up day – Saturday)
Spaghetti Dinner (serving and clean-up day – Sunday)
Nursing Home Project (making 4 Christmas Cards at home, bring 20 pieces
fruit(oranges or bananas)/5lb bag soft chocolate, singing at nursing home
with CCE class, visiting with residents)
All service projects must be completed before March 22, 2018 for
Confirmation II studnets.
“Speak, for your servant is listening.”

Confirmation Sponsor Guidelines
It is considered an honor and privilege to be chosen as a Confirmation Sponsor.
The Sponsor will be a witness to the Confirmation Candidate’s initiation into full Christian life.
Through the Sacrament of Confirmation, the Candidate is strengthened by the power of the Holy
Spirit, made a true witness of Christ in word and deed, and invited more deeply into the life of
the Church.
“… The sponsor brings the candidate to receive the sacrament, presents him/her to the minister
for the anointing, and will later help him/ her to fulfill his/ her baptismal promises faithfully
under the influences of the Holy Spirit.”
— (Rite of Confirmation. Introduction #5)
The Archdiocese of Galveston Houston sets forth the following
Requirements for a Confirmation Sponsor:
The sponsor must be designated (by candidate or parents) and have the intention of the role.
(Only one Sponsor per Candidate)
The sponsor must have completed their sixteenth year.
The sponsor must be a Catholic who has been Confirmed, and has received the sacrament of the
Most Holy Eucharist and lives a life of harmony with the Catholic faith and the role to be
undertaken.
The sponsor must not be bound by any canonical penalty legitimately imposed or declared.
The sponsor may NOT be the parent of the one to be confirmed.
The Role of a Sponsor:
The Sponsor is to be a role model of Christian living for the person you have sponsored, through
daily prayer, virtue and active participation in parish life and liturgy.
The Sponsor will nurture a close personal and spiritual relationship with the Candidate during the
Confirmation preparation year and throughout their lifetime.
Listen to and share in the Candidates maturing struggles and triumphs in living a Christian life,
and keep yourself informed on Catholic Christian doctrine and values to be able to answer
questions when they arise.
“The Sponsor’s function is to take care that the person confirmed behaves as a true witness of
Christ and faithfully fulfills the duties of this sacrament.”
— (Code of Cannon Law #892)
If a Sponsor is unable to attend the Confirmation Mass another adult may stand in their place as a
proxy. A Proxy is held to the same Archdiocesan Conditions and Requirements as a
Confirmation Sponsor.
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name: you are mine.”
Isaiah 43:1
Confirmation Saint Name
As a candidate for the celebration of the sacrament of Confirmation, you have two
options concerning the choice of Confirmation name.
Option 1: Choose your present, baptismal name (your first name or middle name
only if it is a Saint name). This shows the sacrament’s connection with the other
sacraments of initiation into the Catholic Church: Baptism and First Eucharist.
Choosing your Baptismal name demonstrates that you feel there has been a
continual growth in your faith and that you now wish to make this formal through
Confirmation.
Option 2: Choose a saint’s name that symbolizes a new beginning in your faith life
and a connection to that particular saint. If you feel that you have not been
particularly strong in your faith and are now making a renewed commitment to
your faith, the taking of a new name symbolizes this commitment. This new name
would be used after your present middle name and before your family name.
Saint Name Essay
After you have selected your Confirmation name, write a one page essay on your
Saint name. Some elements that you can include in your paper are:
What name you chose
Why you chose that name
What that name means to you and your faith life
What inspires you about the life of your patron saint you selected
What virtues did your saint display that you would like to develop
A summary of the life and spirituality of your saint
If you are using your Baptismal name, why were you named that name
Deadline for turning in your letter to the CCE Office: October 18, 2017
Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on
each one of them. And they were all filled with the holy Spirit.”
Acts 2:3-4a
Letter to Fr. Bill
Now that you are in the final preparations for the reception of the Sacrament of
Confirmation, you are asked to write a letter to Fr. Bill informing him that you feel
you are prepared to receive the Sacrament and asking him to recommend you to
the Bishop to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Your letter should contain:
Statement that you feel you are ready to receive the Sacrament of
Confirmation
Request to Fr. Bill that he recommend you to the Bishop to receive the
Sacrament
Your letter can contain any combination of the following:
Why you are ready
How your faith life has grown
What Confirmation is and what it means to you
Why you want to be Confirmed
What being Catholic means to you
Who your sponsor is
Why you have chosen that person as your sponsor
What you Confirmation name is
Why you have chosen that name
