Erica Kragness is in her second year as the Artistic Director of the Children’s Chorale of Flagstaff and has been a choral director with the organization for the last six years. Along with her artistic leadership of the Children’s Chorale of Flagstaff, she is also on the music faculty at Northern Arizona University. Ms. Kragness received her Bachelor of Arts degree in vocal music education at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, where she studied with Dr. Weston Noble, Dr. Timothy Peter, and Dr. Sandra Peter. She received her Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting at Northern Arizona University under the direction of Dr. Edith Copley. During her studies at NAU, Ms. Kragness conducted the Northern Arizona University Singers, was the assistant conductor for the Northern Arizona Women’s Chorale, and taught freshman year eartraining. Prior to relocating in Flagstaff, Ms. Kragness was the Director of Choirs from 1999 - 2002 at Brooklyn Center Junior/Senior High School, and the Associate Director of Choirs from 2002 - 2006 at Coon Rapids High School in Minneapolis.
Sara Bendel Ryan, Director of Kinder Chorus, is an almost native of Flagstaff, having moved here when she was 5 years old. She graduated from NAU with a music minor and has taught music to young children in Flagstaff since 1997. She plays violin in the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra and has three beautiful daughters who are all fine musicians!
Jordan Rakita, Associate Director and Director of In Accordo, our young men's ensemble, received his Bachelor of Arts in Music from Northern Arizona University in 2009, and serves as the resident voice instructor at the Flagstaff School of Music. He has also worked with the Flagstaff Unified School District, providing supplemental music education through a program called FACTS: Family and Community Teaming for Students. While at NAU, Mr. Rakita sang with Shrine of Ages Choir, and with the Westminster Chorus, an award-winning men’s barbershop quartet in Orange County, California.

Steven Schaefer, Accompanist, is a Piano Performance major at NAU studying with Dr. Frank Scott and Mrs. Rita Borden. Recently Steven had the opportunity to perform Dimitri Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the NAU Orchestra after winning the NAU School of Music Concerto Competition. Upon graduating Steven plans to attend NAU for graduate studies in Piano Performance. Currently Steven serves as choir director for First Congregational Church of Flagstaff and piano teacher for the NAU Academy of Music. Away from the keyboard Steven loves to hike, garden, fly kites, and swim.
Lies'l Hill, Chorale Assistant, is a very recent graduate of NAU with a degree in Choral Music Education. She has participated in many ensembles over the years through NAU, including Sedona Academy of Chamber Singers, Women's Chorale, University Singers, Chamber Singers, Northern Voices and High Altitude vocal jazz, and Shrine of the Ages choir, of which she served as president in her senior year. She was also a student conductor for the University Singers during the past spring semester. Lies'l studied voice under Deborah Raymond. She will be moving to Mesa this summer to complete her student teaching at Corona Del Sol High School. Lies’l has had the honor of working with Children’s Chorale since August, and is very grateful for the wonderful opportunity. She would like to thank Erica, Dr. Ryan Holder, and Dr. Edith Copley for the privilege of learning from the best over the past four years.
Jesica Barker, Choreographer, has been dancing and competing in the Phoenix valley since the age of 3. She has received many awards and scholarships, and has performed such roles as the Sugar Plum Fairy for The Nutcracker. Jesica has also traveled and performed in California and Las Vegas, and other places around the country. In doing so, she has had the opportunity to take classes from amazing choreographers like Mia Michaels. Jesica has been choreographing for different dance and show choir venues since the age of 14, and won her first award for choreography at the age of 18. She currently choreographs for the Mesa Easter Pageant every year. Jesica recently started her own dance studio, dancEvolution, in Flagstaff. In her spare time, she likes spending time with her husband, Ammon, and 2 daughters Emma (3) and Adele (5 months). She also enjoys tutoring in math. She got her BS in Mathematics Education from Brigham Young University in 2007.
