The Keating-Owen Act: - passed in 1916
- Was Later declared unconstitutional - If passed, it would have freed children from child labor ( for industries in interstate
commerce)
Tax on Employment of Child Labor:- Approved in 1919- Placed 10% tax on net profits ( 8 hours, 6 day week)- Supreme court declared unconstitutional- Kids declined by 50%
What actions were taken to protect children and to stop child labor in the Progressive Era Continued The Smith-Hughes Act:
- Passed in 1917 - Provided one million dollars to states who agreed to improve public schools - The NCLC and other organizations favored this
1929:- Every states had a provision to ban kids working under 14- Thirty-six states
