What’s Inside:
President’s Message Heneni! Here I am, one more year. To the Board of Trustees who are leaving, I thank you for your service and your time and patience. For those staying or just joining us, I thank you in advance for everything you have done or will do. I thank my Executive Board for everything you WILL do this year. It is such a help to know when I ask someone to do something, it just gets done! A President can only do so much on their own. It is my Executive Board and Board of Trustees who fill in all the spaces. I thank Melanie, my right hand WOMAN, who in addition to all she does here, is also learning how to “President”, for next year. Thank you to 2nd VP, Michael, for keeping things all in line and online. Mike provided us with a technological Executive Board meeting when the weather kept getting in our way this past winter. Thank you to our Secretary, Randi, who sits at my left elbow, and often guides me in her calm, quite way. Thank you to David, who although we haven’t always seen eye to eye, we have developed quite a good working relationship. And thank you to Florence, who brings intelligence and compassion to her position and to the board. As I look back at my induction speech from last year, I realize we were on the right path then. Many of my hopes, dreams and aspirations came to fruition, how rewarding! Yet, we still have many things to do! I quoted Theodore Herzl, who said, “If you will it, it is no dream” and my ‘will’ was for each congregant to find his/her own place within Beth Am Shalom. I have seen the Women of Beth Am Shalom have a real rejuvenation, and it seems like the Men’s Club has changed as well. It is wonderful to see so many women and men in each of these clubs If you haven’t been to a meeting, you should go. It’s a whole new world, and mI am sure they could use your expertise as well. For me, my unique position, as Religious School teacher of grades 6 and 7, became more rewarding as I made presentations at the many B’nei Mitzvah this past year. It was special for me to be able to tell a brief story to the family of each B’nei mitzvah about their child in the world of Beth Am Shalom. President’s Message continued on page 3

Please indulge me in a few more thank yous. I must thank Missy Francis. She is so much more than our Office Administrator, she has had to share the office with a slew of new workers, some of whom came and went in rapid succession, she is often our first line of defense and often the first voice when someone calls to inquire about membership. Thank you to Steve Rosenzwieg, our volunteer custodian, without Steve, we often would have been sitting on the floor, which would be ever so awkward at Oneg. Then there is Pam Ligorski, President before me, always there at those moments when I just sat there saying…huh? Pam was always there to point me in a direction, or lend an ear. Thank you to Fran Gimpel, another former President, whom without, there would be no Cantor Unger for you all to enjoy! Thank you to Richard Eisenstein for jumping in when the face of Bingo changed in a very short time. Thank you to Sandy Yaskulka, not only for all the time she spends on Oneg, but the special time she spends as Mitzvah and Caring, the cards for the good times and the not so good, as the signature of the Beth Am Shalom family. I love this. Thank you to all the kids of Beth Am Shalom religious school. Sometimes we ALL need some of their energy and fresh thinking. I can’t forget to thank both Rabbi Gold and Cantor Unger for all they do for each of us and making Beth Am Shalom the spiritual house it is. While we, the Executive Board and Board of Trustees attempt to run the business end of BAS, it is nothing without the spiritual world and world of spiritual music that is provided for us by Rabbi Gold and Cantor Unger. As I conclude, I’d like to thank my daughters, Sara and Rebecca, for their support. To Sara, for joining me on random services and helping to set up for 2nd night Seder. And to Rebecca, who although she moved to VA for work, she is still checking in on me via text and Facetime. Thank goodness for modern technology. So, we, together, the Beth Am Shalomites, start another year. Let us work together, to go and to grow from strength to strength.
