Codes and conventions of the Chick Flick genre
What is the ‘Chick Flick’ Genre?
A film that indulges in the hopes and dreams of women and/or girls. A film that has a happy,
fuzzy or unrealistic ending.
Follows the following formula: -Fall in love-They get along-There is a misunderstanding along the way-They break up-They get back together-The end
MusicTypically in Chick Flick trailers, non diegetic music is
used to convey the atmosphere of the film, stereotypically a upbeat and feel good track that is
going to inflict the overall tone of the film. In the below 2008 trailer (Wild Child), the non diegetic music in which is playing is a current up to date track at that time which the demographic would be able to identify and relate to.
Locations

conforming to this genre..These locations include:• A school environment - which will be familiar for the
audience allowing them to relate to the trailer (e.g. legally blonde)
• Party/Club environment – another common location for the target audience, according to uses and gratifications theory – again the audience can identify with such settings
