Welcoming New MembersSharing Lifecycle MomentsThanking You for Your Generosity

We are in an extraordinary time that requires us to embrace new ways to communicate. Despite our social separation, we have come together and found unity with our community. Over the past few months we welcomed new members, new babies, celebrated b'nei mitzvah and weddings, and mourned those who have passed on. We also were generously supported by donations from our community.

Our weekly emails and programming have kept you informed and engaged, so we would like to take this opportunity, in our newly created Sinai Connections, to celebrate and thank our community. This Sinai Connections includes information from March 1 to May 31. Going forward, you will receive Sinai Connections via email at the beginning of each month.

We are grateful for our Sinai community and we hope each and every one of you are staying safe and healthy.

Kristin Pries and Brette BossickKristin is from Homewood, a south suburb of Chicago, and she is a High School Art Teacher and Administrator at a local Chicago Charter school. Brette is originally from Pleasant Ridge, a suburb of Detroit and owns her own online Tech Education business. They both love to cook, try new restaurants, and travel (domestically and internationally). They also have a 3 year old Pitbull named Franki, who is the love of their lives! Kristin and Brette are getting married in September and Rabbi Limmer will be officiating! They joined Sinai to participate in some of the holiday celebrations. Recently, they were thrilled to celebrate Shabbat virtually with Sinai.

Gus Abrams and Lauren AmsterLauren is originally from Los Angeles and Gus is from Buffalo, New York. They met at the University of Michigan while getting their MBAs at the Ross School of Business. After graduating, Gus moved to Minneapolis to be a buyer at Target and Lauren moved to Chicago to work as a consultant for PwC. After 3 years of long distance, Gus moved to Chicago to start a job at Walgreens. In their free time they love to explore the Chicago food scene, travel and go to live concerts. With life looking a little different these days, they take long walks around the city, cook, binge watch old shows like The Wire, and work on 'shredding for the wedding' on their new toy - the Peloton! Gus and Lauren became engaged about a year ago and joined Sinai. Rabbi Limmer was supposed to officiate their wedding this summer. Sadly, they’ve had to postpone their wedding, but look forward to the new date in 2021. They are also thrilled to join our community for the High Holy Days this fall.

MEET OUR NEWEST MEMBERS

Jenny Rooth and Ryan BachRyan is from Minneapolis and Jenny is from Munster, IN. They met at UW-Madison and began their lives in Chicago in 2015. They became engaged this past summer in Boulder, CO. They love live music, working out, and recently welcomed a new shiba inu puppy; and they are always looking forward to their next vacation together. Their travel highlights including Machu Picchu in Peru and the Basque region in Spain.

Ryan and Jenny were looking to join a synagogue and engage with a Rabbi for their upcoming wedding. They chose Sinai because we are a congregation that welcomes interfaith couples like themselves. Sinai's adult education and social action programing offered them the experiences they were seeking. Ryan and Jenny are looking forward to celebrating Shabbat and participating in High Holy Days with the Sinai community.

Hannah Deason and Josh SchroederHannah grew up in Chicago and Oklahoma, she is the Managing Director of Operations at Caxy, a tech consultancy in the Loop. Josh is from Milwaukee and has lived in Chicago since 2014 and also shares the title of Managing Director of Operations at Caxy. Hannah and Josh met in 2015 and married in 2017. They have a growing record collection, miss walking along North Avenue Beach, and have become active Peloton enthusiasts.

For the last few years, Hannah has been exploring Judaism, working to create a Jewish home. As Hannah seeks to formally convert, Hannah and Josh wanted to be part of a community that celebrated and supported their effort.

While they have joined during our time of virtual Sinai, everyone they have met online has created such a welcoming space. They are looking forward to having a community to learn with, and from. They are excited to be part of the young professional group and feel fortunate to participate in civil and social justice initiatives with members of Sinai.

Lox & Deli Box FundraiserIn May we held a fundraiser for our Religious School Scholarship Fund. Over 100 members of our Sinai community purchased Manny's lox and deli boxes. We raised over $1,500.
