N.B. It is important to check the stability of the ground fl oor and the deck before mounting the staircase. If you are in doubt, we recommend to seek professional assistance.
In wooden fl oors you must predrill with an Ø8 mm drill. In concrete fl oors you must predrill with an Ø12 mm drill (see illustration 7, page 24 and illustration 18, page 30).
Notice that rawl plugs are used for concrete fl oors, however, not for wooden fl oors.
We recommend 2 fi tters for the assembly of this staircase.
Congratulations on the purchase of your new CHICAGO staircase! For the best results for your own home, you should read the following before assembly.
Important: Read this before assembly!
Before assembly, please check that the actual delivery matches the shipping note, and know whether it is straight fl ight (S), left- (L) or a right- (R) turn staircase. Please also verify that the number of steps delivered corresponds to your fl oor height (see table).
The staircase you have bought is a multifl exible staircase, and you might experience excessive parts for the banister construction.
The staircase is available in TWO widths:74 cm incl. banister (tread width 70 cm)90 cm incl. banister (tread width 86 cm)

Please be aware of the fact that the staircase must be mounted downwards.
• The maximum number of rises corresponds to the number of steps delivered +1. In order to determine the rise (S), you must know your fl oor-to-fl oor height (H). This is measured from the ground on which the staircase start up to the top of the fl oor where the staircase will be mounted. Dividing the fl oor height (H) by the number of rises (N), gives you the average rise. See the following example and illustration.
Determination of the requested rise height
Example:12 steps = 13 risesFloor height (H) (example) = 2600 mm2600 mm/ 13 rises = an average rise of 200 mm. A rise can vary between 185 mm and 225 mm. If the result of the average rise height is not between 185 and 225 mm, both numbers included, you must remove or add a rise.
NB: Remember to adjust the rise height on the template after mounting each step!

The staircases consists of fi xed and fl exible components, and the going must be calculated individually for each staircase fl ight.
Use the formula below to calculate the going (G). The formula should be applied for each staircase fl ight, i.e. once for a straight fl ight, twice for 1/4 turn staircase and three times for a 1/2 turn stair-case.
1. Determine the fl ight of the staircase in the tables at the next page
2. Insert the dimension X in the formula - which correspond to the room available. This dimension X must be a number between the max/min dimensions otherwise the calculation will be incorrect.
OPENING
It’s important that the dimensions of your opening correspond to your new stair. The many possible combinations mean that we can only give a general indication that ensures that the opening corresponds as a minimum to the stair.
In order to obtain the opening size of the staircase you will have to add 50 mm where banisters are included. When you have a banister on both sides, you will have to add min. 100 mm to the size of the staircase to ensure the right size of the opening.
Finally, it’s important that the dimension of the opening ensures a clearance between 190 and 200 cm. The building regulations may vary from country to country, and we recommend that you contact the local dealer.

Placing of balusters
See below illustrations for baluster placing, if you have chosen the wire banister solution.
18
Mount baluster fi ttings on the steps before mounting the steps. See in above table how the baluster fi ttings must be placed (depending on whether it is for outside or inside banister). At the lowest tread you must mount two baluster fi ttings before you fasten the tread with screws. See illustration 41-43.
Please be aware of the fact that you do not have to mount baluster fi ttings on each step, when it concerns a 74 cm wire banister solution.
There is, however, some staircase constructions where you cannot use above table.

6: MOUNTING THE TOP ELEMENT
Placing of the top element is calculated in the following way: From the deck fl oor you must measure off thecalculated rise height and tread thickness.(E.g.: rise height 200 mm + tread thickness 40 mm = 240 mm). This is the mounting height X of the top element. The element is fastened with enclosed rawl plugs and screws, if it is a concrete deck, and only screws, if it is a wooden deck.
Check with a level before the fi nal mounting that the element is placed correctly.

Notice that the rings must be placedas shown to the left before mounting
