“Today he told his mum as he walked in the door.“I am so tired from all that work, so I think I’ll just

take a quick nap’…….

“Wow. Who knew eating is so complicated.”

Said James as he walked home from school.

we were learning about the digestive system.

To tell you the truth, I thought it was a bit boring and

I wasn’t really listening”

...z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z………………..



“Whoa, where am I, and what am I! Hey hang on a second

I’m squishy and I smell like chicken and what’s all that whitestuff. Is it mayo? ……….. Hang on I think I’m a burger!!!”



“Aaah” cried James as he got lifted into the air. He

realised he was being lifted up by a huge hand and

was about to enter a huge mouth. “Oww” James saidas he got squashed by the teeth as they were chewing

him. He remembered what his teacher had told him.

This was a form of mechanical digestion. James

gingerly stepped onto the tongue. “Hehe Careful that

tickles” said a voice that came from below him.

“Who was that” said a very surprised James.” “Thatwould have to be me Tina tongue.” But James

didn’t have time to say anything else as he got

attacked by a wave of saliva. “Eeewww was that just

saliva.” He said. “Yes it was but there are many

more digestive juices along the way.” Said Tina “But

did you know that it has a enzyme called amylase to break down the starch. Now James you’ll have to go.

Bye”



“Hey, I know what this is” said James as he approached a gate like

flap. “It’s the epiglottis.” James wandered nearer and saw the

oesophagus. “ If I remember right this one will take me to the

stomach.” And with that he jumped down the tube and got helped

along by some wave like muscle contractions.” “Whoa this must be the peristalsis Miss was talking about. I never actually felt it

before.”



After a lot of squishing and

squashing James made it down to

the stomach. “Hi James, I’m Sally

stomach. It’s a pleasure to meet

you.” Said a voice. But before he

could say anything a half eaten apple

called AJ came through. “Wow,

man, that was cool as.” Exclaimed

AJ. “Oh hey” said AJ as he noticed

James “You must be James” he said.

“Tina up there told me I would meet

you.” As James went to answer, this

time 2 more guests came to say

hello. “Hi I’m Jake and I’m Bree”Jake was jelly and Bree was a piece

of banana .



“Whoa this guy must eat a lot” said James. “Well I’m only

the size of a hotdog but I can fit 3L of milk in here” said Sally.

James realised that as he was talking to his new found friends he

had turned into a cream like substance. “Hey Sally, what happened

to me?” he asked. “You James have been turned into chyme that is

the product of many gastric juices.” She replied. “That’s why it

stinks in here.” She added. James had to wait for at least 24hrs

before he could keep on going.



When the time finally came Jamesleft the stomach and went on to the

small intestine but as he passed

the liver and pancreas he got

covered in bile

“ Why does this keep happening to me.” Said a very

annoyed James. He remembered that the teacher had said

that bile is made in the pancreas and is needed to help break

down the food. “Guess I must have been listening after all.”

He said.



When James entered the small intestine he looked around and noticed he

was surrounded by lots of hair like things from the roof and floor of the

intestine. “Hi I’m Lilly.” said a voice “Hi I’m Millie” said another.“Aaahh, what’s going on around here?” exclaimed James. “Don’t bescared James.” said Lilly

“We’re just villi.” Said Millie. “Villi what’s that?.” James asked.

“We’re the things that absorb all your nutrients and give it to the blood

stream and the body. Said Lilly. “It’s called Absorption and

Assimilation.” Said Millie. “Oh that’s right I almost forgot. I’m a burger now.” Said James. “Oh well it was nice talking to you both but I better move on now. Off to the large intestine I go.”



As James went on he realised that the small intestine wasn’t actually

small in fact it was incredibly long. “I think my teacher might have

mentioned something about it being so long..” He said to himself. When

James finally reached the end, he stepped into the large intestine. “Oh

hello there James. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” Said a deep voice thatseemed to be coming from around him. “My name is Leon and I’m the

large intestine.” “Hi Leon. I’m James but you already know that. So

Leon what’s your job in the digestive system?” “My job?! All I do is

move along all the unwanted things. It’s not a very big job but you can’t

live without it.” He said. “by the way I was just wondering how longexactly is the small intestine?.” James asked. “ Ah I ssee it was longer than you expected incredibly its 6.71m long. Oh look at that. How the

time flies. Your off to Ryan now. Tell him I said hi. Bye James.”



When James met Ryan he didn’t think Ryan looked the strong

type. But was surprised when he told him that he could hold 1

pound of faeces.

“Oh by the way Leon told me to say hi.” Added James. “Oh

he’s a great guy that Leon. But enough now. It looks like you

have to go. Bye James.”

“Move along, move along now.We have a very busy schedule here.

I’m Angela and I’m your captain.

I am the anus and I will be helping you out.”

Said the anus. “Next load departing in

30secs. Hurry up now.” Said Angela. “

She’s so bossy” said James to himself. “I heard that.” said

Angela. “ And the only reason that is is because we

certainly don’t want things to get a little backed up. Do we

now?.”

And with that James went to leave the body and heard the

toilet flush.



James….James….wake up James it’s time to do your homework.

“Huh what, what’s going on.” Said James as he groggily lookedup to see his mum standing before him. “ You fell asleep honey.

And no you have to finish your assignment. You know the one

about the digestive system.” She said.

“Oh right that one.” He replied. “I’m guessing the digestive

system was a little boring for you. I can help you if you want.” Sheoffered. “Actually mum, I think I’ll be just fine and for the record

it was actually really interesting. Did you know that the small

intestine is 6.71m long.” Said James and he smile a secret smile.
