Brethren, Amazingly, we find ourselves half-way through another fantas- tic Masonic year at Cherrydale Lodge. We have accomplished so much in such a short time, but we have plenty of work yet to complete. The theme for this year has been Leaders Past, Leaders Present, Leaders Future.Following that theme, Cherrydale Lodge has taken the time to honor our past leaders, as we focus on our present leaders creating future leaders. We have brethren working on their catechisms, completing the Masonic Leadership and Correspondence Course, and learning lectures. The strength of any Masonic Lodge is in the brethren and their Masonic proficiencies. To help us all strengthen our Masonic knowledge, Cherrydale Lodge hosts a Lodge Instructor of Work School every second Monday of the month and the District Instructor of Work School every fourth Wednesday. Both begin at 7:00 pm. I encourage all the brethren to regularly attend these schools. Masonic educa- tion no only ones Masonic journey, but helps to assure Cherrydale Lodges continued strength and future growth. At the May 18 th Stated Communication, Worshipful Robert Worley was presented his Lewis Jewel, and his son Creighton, who is stationed in Okinawa, Japan, will receive his Jewel later this fall. Prior the presentation of the Lewis Jewel, I honestly had never heard of the Jewel, or knew its meaning. For those who also may not know, the Lewis Jewel represents a family Masonic lineage that passes from father, to sons, and to grandsons. I was moved to learn the Jewels meaning and felt it truly represented leaders past fostering leaders present, and thereby creating our leaders future. Finding it so meaningful, I wanted to know what it origins. For and operative mason, a lewis tool is used to raise heavy blocks of stone into place. It has three metal parts: two wedge-shaped side pieces, and a straight center piece, that fit together. A dovetailed recess is cut into the top of the stone block. The two outer pieces are inserted and then spread by the insertion of the centerpiece. The three parts are then bolted together, a metal ring or shackle is attached and the block is hoisted by hook, rope and pulley. By this means, the block is gripped securely. Once set in its place in the structure, the Lewis is removed leaving the upper surface smooth with no clamp or chains on the outside to interfere with the laying of the next course. I hope that the many fathers in Cherrydale Lodge can one day be honored with a Lewis Jewel, and I look forward to a future of sitting in Lodge with each and every one of them. Brethren,

Amazingly, we find ourselves half-way through another fantas-tic Masonic year at Cherrydale Lodge. We have accomplished so much in such a short time, but we have plenty of work yet to complete. The theme for this year has been “Leaders Past, Leaders Present, Leaders Future.” Following that theme, Cherrydale Lodge has taken the time to honor our past leaders, as we focus on our present leaders creating future leaders. Masonic educa-tion no only one’s Masonic journey, but helps to assure Cherrydale Lodge’s continued strength and future growth. At the May 18th Stated Communication, Worshipful Robert Worley was presented his Lewis Jewel, and his son Creighton, who is stationed in Okinawa, Japan, will receive his Jewel later this fall. Prior the presentation of the Lewis Jewel, I honestly had never heard of the Jewel, or knew it’s meaning.
