Announcements

• Monday Night Solemn Assembly... Six days thou shalt eat unleavened bread: and

on the seventh day [shall be] a solemn assembly to the LORD thy God: thou shalt do no work [therein].

Deut 16:8 We’ll meet at our apartment for snacks and

fellowship as well as a few prayers at 7pm Monday night.

Page 6: Checklist

Announcements

• As most of you know, we have different positions in our Synagogue. One of those positions is the Captain of the Temple.

• We read about this position in Acts 4:1…• While Peter and John were speaking to the

people, they were confronted by the priests, the Captain of the Temple guard, and some of the Sadducees.

Page 7: Checklist

Announcements

• That particular Captain was not a good guy, but that shouldn’t be a reflection on the post.

• The post dates back much further then that, clear back to Old Testament times. We read about it in Jeremiah 20:1, under a different name, but it’s the same position…

• When Pashhur the priest, the son of Immer, who was chief officer in the house of the LORD, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things.

Page 8: Checklist

Announcements

• We see another name it goes by in Neh 11:11 where Seraiah held the position.

• 11Seraiah the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, was the Ruler of the House of God.

• The Ruler of the House of G-d was NOT the High Priest. He was the Captain of the Temple Guard.

Page 9: Checklist

Announcements

• This Captain was in charge of keeping the peace and making sure that policies were kept as prescribed by the rest of the leadership.

• How does that translate to today’s Synagogue?

Page 10: Checklist

Announcements

• The way we use it in our Synagogues today is if anyone comes into our service intoxicated for example, the Captain would nicely ask them to come back another time or if a man comes in dressed inappropriately the Captain would ask him to go home and get changed (if it’s a first time visitor, we’d probably let it go the first time). If a female is dressed inappropriately he will ask the designated female officer under him (position yet to be filled) to address the situation and so forth.

Page 11: Checklist

Announcements

• If they (the offender) continues to cause trouble, then the Captain would introduce what we affectionately call “The Maccabee Method” using the non-lethal “Zealot Hold” to escort them out. Force would be exercised at the direct order of the Leadership.

• We have discussed this position with one of our own here at Beit Aveinu and he has accepted. He’s on the wrestling team at Wenatchee High…

Page 12: Checklist

Announcements

• We want to welcome Aaron Huss to this position and we thank him for his dedication to this Body of Believers. His mom has given her permission for this appointment and is proud of his accomplishment.

• Aaron is planning on being on the police force in the future and we feel this is a logical step towards his secular goals as well as his spiritual goals.

• We want to welcome him aboard.

Page 13: Checklist

Announcements

• Aaron, we are all very proud of you here at Beit Aveinu. You have really stepped up to the plate in your spiritual walk and we want to recognize that. I’ve asked Bob to say a few words, he’s been very excited as well as all of us watching you grow in HaShem and he has a few words to say.

Page 14: Checklist

Announcements

• One final announcement. This is Danni’s last Shabbat with us for a while. She moves every year at this time over to the other side of the mountains. We miss her every time she has to leave us. But she’ll be back. We look forward when she can come back and be with us. Anything you’d like to say Danni before you go and will you be with us this Wednesday.

Today’s Parsha

Page 34: Checklist

• 1 ADONAI said to Moshe, 2 "Speak to Aharon and his sons and to all the people of Isra'el. Tell them that this is what ADONAI has ordered: 3 'When someone from the community of Isra'el slaughters an ox, lamb or goat inside or outside the camp 4 without bringing it to the entrance of the tent of meeting to present it as an offering to ADONAI before the tabernacle of ADONAI, he is to be charged with blood - he has shed blood, and that person is to be cut off from his people.

Lev 17

Page 35: Checklist

• 5 The reason for this is so that the people of Isra'el will bring their sacrifices that they sacrifice out in the field -so that they will bring them to ADONAI, to the entrance of the tent of meeting, to the cohen, and sacrifice them as peace offerings to ADONAI. 6 The cohen will splash the blood against the altar of ADONAI at the entrance to the tent of meeting and make the fat go up in smoke as a pleasing aroma for ADONAI.

Lev 17

Page 36: Checklist

• 7 No longer will they offer sacrifices to the goat-demons, before whom they prostitute themselves! This is a permanent regulation for them through all their generations.' 8 "Also tell them, 'When someone from the community of Isra'el or one of the foreigners living with you offers a burnt offering or sacrifice 9 without bringing it to the entrance of the tent of meeting to sacrifice it to ADONAI, that person is to be cut off from his people.

Lev 17

Page 37: Checklist

• 10 When someone from the community of Isra'el or one of the foreigners living with you eats any kind of blood, I will set myself against that person who eats blood and cut him off from his people. 11 For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for yourselves; for it is the blood that makes atonement because of the life.'

Lev 17

Page 38: Checklist

• 12 This is why I told the people of Isra'el, 'None of you is to eat blood, nor is any foreigner living with you to eat blood.' 13 "When someone from the community of Isra'el or one of the foreigners living with you hunts and catches game, whether animal or bird that may be eaten, he is to pour out its blood and cover it with earth.

Lev 17

Page 39: Checklist

• 14 For the life of every creature - its blood is its life. Therefore I said to the people of Isra'el, 'You are not to eat the blood of any creature, because the life of every creature is its blood. Whoever eats it will be cut off.' 15 "Anyone eating an animal that dies naturally or is torn to death by wild animals, whether he is a citizen or a foreigner, is to wash his clothes and bathe himself in water; he will be unclean until evening; then he will be clean. 16 But if he doesn't wash them or bathe his body, he will bear the consequences of his wrongdoing."

• END

Lev 17

Page 40: Checklist

• 1 "If someone steals an ox or a sheep and slaughters or sells it, he is to pay five oxen for an ox and four sheep for a sheep. 2 "If a thief caught in the act of breaking in is beaten to death, it is not murder;

Ezekiel 22:1-16

Page 41: Checklist

• 3 unless it happens after sunrise, in which case it is murder. A thief must make restitution; so if he has nothing, he himself is to be sold to make good the loss from the theft. 4 If what he stole is found alive in his possession, he is to pay double, no matter whether it is an ox, a donkey or a sheep.

Ezekiel 22:1-16

Page 42: Checklist

• 5 "If a person causes a field or vineyard to be grazed over or lets his animal loose to graze in someone else's field, he is to make restitution from the best produce of his own field and vineyard. 6 "If a fire is started and spreads to thorns, so that stacked grain, standing grain or a field is destroyed, the person who lit it must make restitution. 7 "If a person entrusts a neighbor with money or goods, and they are stolen from the trustee's house, then, if the thief is found, he must pay double. 8 But if the thief is not found, then the trustee must state before God that he did not take the person's goods himself.

Ezekiel 22:1-16

Page 43: Checklist

• 9 In every case of dispute over ownership, whether of an ox, a donkey, a sheep, clothing, or any missing property, where one person says, 'This is mine,' both parties are to come before God; and the one whom God condemns must pay the other one double. 10 "If a person trusts a neighbor to look after a donkey, ox, sheep or any animal, and it dies, is injured or is driven away unseen,

Ezekiel 22:1-16

Page 44: Checklist

• 11 then the neighbor's oath before ADONAI that he has not taken the goods will settle the matter between them -the owner is to accept it without the neighbor's making restitution. 12 But if it was stolen from the neighbor, he must make restitution to the owner. 13 If it was torn to pieces by an animal, the neighbor must bring it as evidence, and then he doesn't need to make good the loss.

Ezekiel 22:1-16

Page 45: Checklist

• 14 "If someone borrows something from his neighbor, and it gets injured or dies with the owner not present, he must make restitution. 15 If the owner was present, he need not make good the loss. If the owner hired it out, the loss is covered by the hiring fee. 16 "If a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged to be married and sleeps with her, he must pay the bride-price for her to be his wife. END

Ezekiel 22:1-16

Page 46: Checklist

• Why do we do the Haftarah?

• Isn’t that just a Jewish thing?

• Did you know there’s more evidence of the First Church doing a Haftarah reading then in any other ancient Jewish writings including the Talmud?

Haftarah

Page 47: Checklist

• Sure there’s lots of evidence in ancient Jewish writings concerning reading of the Torah… but not the reading of the Prophets.

• Not that the Jews didn’t read the Prophets, they did, but there’s little evidence showing that in ancient texts.

Haftarah

Page 48: Checklist

• The New Testament on the other hand, shows very explicitly that we’re to read the Haftarah.

• We read it in 2 places…• Acts 13• 14But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in

Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.

• 15And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.

• We also see it in Luke 4

Haftarah

Page 49: Checklist

• Luke 4 • 14 Yeshua returned to the Galil in the power of

the Spirit, and reports about him spread throughout the countryside. 15 He taught in their synagogues, and everyone respected him. 16 Now when he went to Natzeret, where he had been brought up, on Shabbat he went to the synagogue as usual. He stood up to read, 17 and he was given the scroll of the prophet Yesha`yahu. Unrolling the scroll, he found the place where it was written…

Haftarah

Page 50: Checklist

• 1 One Shabbat Yeshua went to eat in the home of one of the leading P'rushim, and they were watching him closely. 2 In front of him was a man whose body was swollen with fluid. 3 Yeshua spoke up and asked the Torah experts and P'rushim, "Does the Torah allow healing on Shabbat or not?" 4 But they said nothing. So, taking hold of him, he healed him and sent him away.

Luke 14 1-15

Page 51: Checklist

• 5 To them he said, "Which of you, if a son or an ox falls into a well, will hesitate to haul him out on Shabbat?" 6 And to these things they could give no answer. 7 When Yeshua noticed how the guests were choosing for themselves the best seats at the table, he told them this parable: 8 "When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, don't sit down in the best seat; because if there is someone more important than you who has been invited,

Luke 14 1-15

Page 52: Checklist

• 9 the person who invited both of you might come and say to you, `Give this man your place.' Then you will be humiliated as you go to take the least important place. 10 Instead, when you are invited, go and sit in the least important place; so that when the one who invited you comes, he will say to you, `Go on up to a better seat.' Then you will be honored in front of everyone sitting with you.

Luke 14 1-15

Page 53: Checklist

• 11 Because everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but everyone who humbles himself will be exalted." 12 Yeshua also said to the one who had invited him, "When you give a lunch or a dinner, don't invite your friends, brothers, relatives or rich neighbors; for they may well invite you in return, and that will be your repayment.

Luke 14 1-15

Page 54: Checklist

• 13 Instead, when you have a party, invite poor people, disfigured people, the crippled, the blind! 14 How blessed you will be that they have nothing with which to repay you! For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous." 15 On hearing this, one of the people at the table with Yeshua said to him, "How blessed are those who eat bread in the Kingdom of God!" END

Page 91: Checklist

• Origin of Easter - Its Pagan RootsThe origin of Easter dates back to ancient times, not long after the Flood recorded in Genesis.

The Feast Of Ishtar

Page 92: Checklist

• It all starts with Nimrod, the great grandson of Noah.

• Nimrod turned from G-d and became a

tyrant.• Nimrod created Babel,

Ninevah, Asshur, Calla and other cities, all known for lifestyles that promoted evil and perversion.

The Feast Of Ishtar

Nimrod

Page 93: Checklist

• Gen 10• 8And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the

earth. • 9He was a mighty hunter before the LORD: wherefore it is

said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD. • 10And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech,

and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar. • 11Out of that land went forth Asshur, and builded Nineveh,

and the city Rehoboth, and Calah, • 12And Resen between Nineveh and Calah: the same is a

great city.

The Feast Of Ishtar

Page 94: Checklist

• Though the English translation says Nimrod was a mighty hunter before the L-rd, I agree with Philo and the ancient Rabbi Yochanan ben Zakai who translate that as “one in opposition to the L-rd”.

The Feast Of Ishtar

Page 95: Checklist

• Nimrod probably wasn’t even his name, but a title which means “rebellious”.

• So instead of it being translated as… Nimrod the mighty hunter before the L-RD it should be translated. Nimrod, one in opposition to the L-rd

The Feast Of Ishtar

Page 96: Checklist

• Josephus writes of him as well…• "Now it was Nimrod who excited them to such an affront and

contempt of God. He was the grandson of Ham, the son of Noah, a bold man, and of great strength of hand. He persuaded them not to ascribe it to God, as if it were through his means they were happy, but to believe that it was their own courage which procured that happiness. He also gradually changed the government into tyranny, seeing no other way of turning men from the fear of God, but to bring them into a constant dependence on his power. He also said he would be revenged on God, if he should have a mind to drown the world again; for that he would build a tower too high for the waters to reach. And that he would avenge himself on God for destroying their forefathers.

The Feast Of Ishtar

Page 97: Checklist

• Now the multitude were very ready to follow the determination of Nimrod, and to esteem it a piece of cowardice to submit to God; and they built a tower, neither sparing any pains, nor being in any degree negligent about the work: and, by reason of the multitude of hands employed in it, it grew very high, sooner than any one could expect; but the thickness of it was so great, and it was so strongly built, that thereby its great height seemed, upon the view, to be less than it really was. It was built of burnt brick, cemented together with mortar, made of bitumen, that it might not be liable to admit water.

The Feast Of Ishtar

Page 98: Checklist

• When God saw that they acted so madly, he did not resolve to destroy them utterly, since they were not grown wiser by the destruction of the former sinners; but he caused a tumult among them, by producing in them diverse languages, and causing that, through the multitude of those languages, they should not be able to understand one another. The place wherein they built the tower is now called Babylon, because of the confusion of that language which they readily understood before; for the Hebrews mean by the word Babel, confusion."

The Feast Of Ishtar

Page 99: Checklist

• Personally, I don’t buy the story that the tower of Babel was built in order to be able to get people out of reach of another deluge or that it was built to reach heaven.

The Feast Of Ishtar

Page 100: Checklist

• I don’t think that Nimrod was stupid. He was only a few short genealogical generations from Noah so he knew the flood covered even the mountains

The Feast Of Ishtar

Page 101: Checklist

• Knowing that he wouldn’t have built this tower in a valley. Gen 11…

• 2And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt (moved) there.

• 3And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.

The Feast Of Ishtar

The Feast Of Ishtar

Page 103: Checklist

• It would make no sense to build a tower to avoid a flood or to reach heaven in a valley when they could build on the nearby hills and mountains.

The Feast Of Ishtar

Page 104: Checklist

• Anyway, when Nimrod died, his wife, Queen Semiramis, deified him as the Sun-god.

The Feast Of Ishtar

• Later he would become known as Baal.

• They became associated with idolatry, demon worship, human sacrifice and other evil practices.

The Feast Of Ishtar

• After Nimrod died Semiramis had an illegitimate son, Tammuz.

• Somehow, Semiramis convinced the people that Tammuz was actually Nimrod reborn.

• After Nimrod’s death the people were looking for a new leader and savior.

The Feast Of Ishtar

Page 107: Checklist

• People had been looking for the promised Savior since the beginning of mankind. The first messianic promise is in Genesis 3:15 and it says…

• 15And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

The Feast Of Ishtar

Page 108: Checklist

• So, these people were persuaded by Semiramis to believe that Tammuz was that Savior…

The Feast Of Ishtar

Page 109: Checklist

• She also convinced them that he had been “supernaturally conceived and born in a manger”.

• sound familiar? Satan knew long before how Yeshua would be born and he understood perfectly the concept of the “kinsman redeemer”

The Feast Of Ishtar

Page 110: Checklist

• Before long, in addition to worshipping Tammuz (or Nimrod reborn), the people also worshipped Semiramis herself as the goddess of fertility. Jeremiah condemned this (Jeremiah 7:17-18; 44:16-19, 25-26).

The Feast Of Ishtar

• In other cultures, she has been called Ishtar, Venus, Ashtur, Astarte and here in America she is called… Easter.

• Her name Easter is derived from the ancient word “spring”

The Feast Of Ishtar

Page 112: Checklist

• The origin of Easter goes back to the springtime ritual instituted by Semiramis following the death of Tammuz, who, according to their religion, was killed by a wild boar.

The Feast Of Ishtar

Page 113: Checklist

• Tammuz was only 40 years old when he died so Semiramis instituted a 40 day fast.

• May I introduce you to Lent!

The Feast Of Ishtar

Page 114: Checklist

• observing Lent begins on Ash Wednesday (we’ll talk about that in a few minutes) and concludes on Easter Sunday.

• Lent is observed by practices of self denial.

• G-d spoke sternly against it in Ezekiel 8…

The Feast Of Ishtar

• Ez 8:13, 18• 13He said also unto me, Turn thee yet again, and

thou shalt see greater abominations that they do. • 14Then he brought me to the door of the gate of the

LORD's house which was toward the north; and, behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz.

• 18 Therefore will I also deal in fury: mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: and though they cry in mine ears with a loud voice, yet will I not hear them.

The Feast Of Ishtar

• On Fridays during lent Catholics eat fish…

• Where did this pagan custom originate?

• Friday, is the "Day of Venus." Venus (another name for Semiramis), was the goddess of sexual love.

The Feast Of Ishtar

Page 117: Checklist

• The fertility symbol associated with Venus by the Romans was the fish, because fish can produce more rapidly than any other creature. A single cod can spawn 9,000,000 eggs in a year!

The Feast Of Ishtar

Page 118: Checklist

• Eating fish on Friday was an act of adoration to Venus and her cohorts, and it celebrates by sympathetic “magic” the principles of fertility and reproduction.

• Back to Tammuz

The Feast Of Ishtar

Page 119: Checklist

• The Pagans taught that through the power of his mother's tears, Tammuz was "resurrected“ (sound familiar?).

The Feast Of Ishtar

Page 120: Checklist

• There are anti-Biblical scholars out there who say that the New Testament was derived from these pagan beliefs (virgin birth, born in a manger, resurrection of a god etc).

The Feast Of Ishtar

Page 121: Checklist

• They think that these references to other ancient beliefs which are older then the New Testament are proof that the New Testament stole these ideas.

The Feast Of Ishtar

Page 122: Checklist

• All it proves to me is that Satan was well aware of what needed to take place concerning the Messiah long before Yeshua actually fulfilled them.

• Back to Ishtar.

The Feast Of Ishtar

Page 123: Checklist

• According to Scripture, it was in the city of Babel that the people created a tower in order to defy God. Up until that time, all the people on the earth spoke one language.

The Feast Of Ishtar

Page 124: Checklist

• The building of the tower led God, as recorded in Genesis 11:7, to confuse their tongues to keep them from being further unified in their false beliefs.

The Feast Of Ishtar

Page 125: Checklist

• This caused the people to disperse around the ancient world.

• As the people moved into other lands, many of them took their pagan practices and gods right along with them.

The Feast Of Ishtar

Page 126: Checklist

• Traditions such as the Easter Bunny and the Easter egg can also be traced back to the practices established by Semiramis.

The Feast Of Ishtar

modern-day Neopagans continue to celebrate the Spring (Easter) Equinox today.

The Feast Of Ishtar

• We need to understand that there are three types of appointed times.

• G-d’s appointed times, man’s appointed times

• And Satan’s appointed times.

The Feast Of Ishtar

Page 132: Checklist

• Easter is Satan’s appointed time.

• Passover is G-d’s appointed time.

• We can dress Easter up and round it with a little Christianity but it is still Ishtar.

• The word “righteous” in Hebrew is “Tzadik”.

• Are you a Tzadik? A righteous person? Or…

The Feast Of Ishtar

• Are you a compromiser with this world?

• We can not have it both ways.

• “Oh I celebrate Easter but I think of the resurrection of Jesus when I do it.”

The Feast Of Ishtar

• Follow that logic through…

• “Oh I celebrate Halloween but I think of Jesus when I do it”.

• You may think “that’s different”, but it’s not…

• “Well Brother, dates aren’t important haven’t you read Col 2:16?”

• Yes I have read it. It tells me not to allow Pagans to decide any dates concerning Holy Days.

• 16Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

• Ash Wednesday is a Roman Catholic holiday which begins their period of fasting called Lent. And…

• 17Then he said unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here?

began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.

• The end of the Sabbath would be our Saturday night at sundown as that day began to dawn (dawn in Greek and hebrew means beginning!), NOT that the sun began to dawn, but that day (that being Saturday night by our reckoning which shows that He had already risen before the Pagan Sunday Sunrise service had started.
