Checking a mobile driving licence

Using a mobile driving licence requires strong electronic identification. After the initial identification, the user can access the licence using a PIN code or a biometric identifier (fingerprint or facial recognition).

› The application includes a wide range of means to check the mobile driving licence to ensure that the best and most appropriate methods are available for different situations. For the first time, the mobile driving licence includes a QR code, a verification method that does not require special knowledge of checking security features. We recommend the use of the QR code whenever possible.

› QR codes improve the security of the digital driving licence.

› If you want to verify a customer’s information and the authenticity of the application, you can use a QR code to check the information directly from Traficom’s background systems.

› QR codes do not contain any customer data. It only functions as a ‘key’ to retrieve customer data from the data systems.

› You can only scan Autoilija QR codes using another Autoilija app. Other QR scanners do not work at this stage.

The customer decides what information he or she wants to share and creates a QR code. You can scan the QR code to check the customer's age, driving right or personal data from Traficom's background systems.

How to use a QR code

If you are not logged in, the customer's photograph does not appear on your phone. Instead, you will receive a check code

(R7HQB7 in the image below) and the requested information (20+ in the image below).

Make sure that the check code corresponds with the code on the customer’s phone and that the information is correct (e.g.

age is 20+). You can check the facial photograph on the customer's mobile driving licence with the customer’s consent.

You do not have hold the device in your hand to check the information. The customer should always hold the

device.

The mobile driving licence has visual security features designed to help identify fake applications. The security features reveal, for example, screenshots or screencasts resembling a mobile driving licence. You do not have hold the device in your hand to check the features. The customer should always hold the device.

Visual security elements

Holographic elements, which react to tilting the phone.

Frontpage that breaks into fragments when touched. The fragment effect follows your finger across the screen. The view comes back to normal when you stop touching the screen.

Animated background design with triangles that change colours even if the device is held still.

Timestamp shows when the data was retrieved from the register and the last time when the device was connected to the network.

You can enlarge a facial photograph by tapping it. In a screenshot or a screencast, these features would not function correctly. You do not have hold the device in your hand to enlarge the elements. The customer should always hold the device.

How to enlarge photographs and barcodes

The hologramsand the control code appear on the enlarged photograph, too.

The enlarged photo shows the person’s date of birth and whether the person is 18+ or 20+ of age.

Driving rights on a mobile driving licenceYou can see whether the holder’s driving right is valid on the back of the mobile driving licence.

Turn the licence around to see more detailed information about the holder's driving rights.

Below the photograph are the categories of vehicles the holder is entitled to drive.

Column 12 shows any additional information or restrictionsconcerning the driving rights in each category.
