It allows you to dive in depth in an area that you are pas-sionate about.
It allows you to demonstrate your learning from all your years in the IB Middle Years Program and use your skills to help you undertake and carry out a major investigation.
It allows you to create something that really makes you proud

WHAT IS THE PERSONAL PROJECT?
IB continuum pathway to projects in the IB
Students completing the IB Primary Years Program will have ex-perienced a broad and engaging curriculum, which culminates with the PYP exhibition. This is an age-appropriate demonstration of learning involving inquiry into the world around them.

HOW IS THE MYP PERSONAL PROJECT PART OF THE OVERALL IB CONTINUUM?

MYP projects prepare students for further education projects and presentations, such as those in the Diploma Program. There are strong links between the MYP projects and subject-specific assess-ments in the DP, such as the global politics engagement activity, through the nature of the task and the presentation style of the report; however, MYP projects relate most directly to the core of the DP, which comprises the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and Creativity, Action, Service (CAS).
DP Extended Essay
While the Personal Project enables students to pursue their personal interests further in the MYP, the DP Extended Essay enables students to pursue an academic interest through a research essay. The Personal Project is not necessarily a research essay; however, Personal Projects always involve re-search, including the use and collection of information and sources.
The Personal Project emphasize experiential learning, which is developed further in community and service in the DP. Through MYP projects, students experience the responsibility of completing a sig-nificant piece of work over an extended period of time, as well as the need to reflect on their learning and the outcomes of their work—key skills that prepare students for success in further study, the work-place and the community.

The aims state what a student may expect to experience and learn. These aims suggest how the student may be changed by the learning experience.
The aims of the MYP Personal Project is to encourage and enable stu-dents to:
• participate in a sustained, self-directed inquiry within a global con-text
• generate creative new insights and develop deeper understandings through in-depth investigation
• demonstrate the skills, attitudes and knowledge required to com-plete a project over an extended period of time
• communicate effectively in a variety of situations
• demonstrate responsible action through, or as a result of, learning
• appreciate the process of learning and take pride in their accom-plishments

CONTEXT AND SKILLS
You need to demonstrate how you have incorporated abilities in various Approaches to Learning, grouped into five categories:
• Communication (such as communicating through language and communicating through interaction)
• Thinking (Critical Thinking, Creative Thinking and Transfer)
• Social (Collaboration, Working effectively with others)
• Self-Management (Managing Time and Tasks, Managing state of mind, Reflec-tion)
• Research (Information Literacy and Media Literacy)

The Personal Project is an exciting mile-stone in every MYP student’s life--and is an experience worth sharing!For that reason, we have shared and will continue to share with other MYP schools in Singapore, visiting them and inviting them to visit us. We will open our explora-tions and culminating projects to the school community.
Ways we will prepare:
• Visit another MYP School in Singapore in May 2014 to view their Personal Project Exhibition
• Introduction of a Personal Project element of the MYP 3 Science Expert Unit and Science Fair
• Visit MYP Schools in Singapore on a continuing basis for MYP 3, 4 and 5

The Chatsworth Science Expert unit and the related Science Fair are an important part of the Chatsworth experience for Year 9 students. This year, as our first class of students following the entire MYP programme, you will have the opportunity to apply the work you do in this unit on two separate levels.
• You will be assessed according to the Science Crite-ria
• As an introduction to the Personal Project, your work will receive feedback according to the Projects as-sessment Criteria as well
• This will NOT involve you doing extra work! You will just be assessed in two different ways.

You need to be able to:
• define a clear and highly challenging goal and con-text for the project, based on personal interests
• identify prior learning and subject-specific knowl-edge that is consistently highly relevant to the project
• demonstrate excellent research skills.

You need to be able to:
• develop rigorous criteria for the product/outcome
• present a detailed and accurate plan and record of the development process of the project
• demonstrate excellent self-management skills.

• Attend the initial meeting with your supervisor on January 28, 2015 at 3:45 (if you cannot attend, con-tact your supervisor and make an alternative time)
• Negotiate and agree on two additional meeting times with your supervisor
• Attend (punctually) meetings with your supervisor
