President’s Message

Fellow Lincoln Foothills Kiwanians,

Happy New Year! Hope each of you had a wonderful Holiday and New Year’s.

Wish you all good health, and may 2018 bring days filled with wonderful memories

with family and friends.

We started the year with our Annual Holiday Celebration. Great fun was had by

all. Our Kiwanians really get along well. We are so blessed to have such

wonderful caring people in our club.

I was recently thinking about one of our Strategic Goals of increasing our

membership. If each of us could bring a guest during the year, we would show our

friends the wonderful things we do for the children in Lincoln. Just think about all

the community service we could do for children in our community with more

members.

Please join me and the Board in helping bring awareness to our friends of the

wonderful things that we do. Bring a friend to a meeting and introduce your

fellow Kiwanians. All of us need to talk more about the wonderful things we do.

Remember, it doesn’t take much to ask a friend to attend a meeting and learn about

what they too can do for the children of Lincoln.

Together, we can make great things happen for the children of Lincoln.

Edy

2018 Valentines Dinner & Dance

This Valentine’s Day open your hearts to help the children of Lincoln

Contributed by Beth Roberts

If you want to have a romantic and fun Valentine’s Day Dinner while doing something really good for our local

children – you can.

This year on February 10th, the Kiwanis Club of Lincoln Foothills is holding their 2nd Annual Valentine’s Day

Dinner & Dance at Catta Verdera Country Club. The proceeds of this event will go to help the children in our

local schools.

The proceeds from last year’s dinner went towards enhancing the technology capabilities of two of our local schools:

Carlin C. Coppin Elementary School and Sheridan Elementary School. The club was able to purchase 30 Google

Chrome Books, which were configured to be used by the children in school to help them complete assignments and

enhance their reading and math skills. The club hopes this year’s proceeds will enable them to purchase and deliver

even more Chrome Books – they still need additional computers at Coppin and Sheridan and there are several more

elementary schools in Lincoln in need. There is more to be done….

The Valentine’s Day Dinner &Dance not only will do a lot for the children, it will be a great event on it’s own. The

venue, Catta Verdera Country Club, is beautiful. The food, a Gourmet Buffet of Salmon and a Prime Rib Carving

Station will be delicious. The music, provided by Don Maeder will be great for dancing. A professional photographer,

Maggie McGurk will be available to take photos of you and your partner. There are many wonderful items available

during a Silent Auction and some great items on a Live Auction including a Gourmet Dinner for Ten and a Week in

a Maui Condo that will add excitement to the evening.

Have fun and give back at the same time. Tickets to the Kiwanis Club of Lincoln Foothills Valentine’s Dinner &

Dance on February 10th, are $55.00 per person. For tickets or more information please call Edy Ternullo at

1-916-543-9990 or Mary Luciano at 1-916-543-9094.

K-Kids Help Salvation Army at Holiday Time

Our K-kids once again surprised us with one more Community Service Project. Several of our K-Kids signed up to

“Ring The Bell” at our local Walmart here in Lincoln. The kids entertained the shoppers with Christmas Carols.

The kids were very pleased at the amount of participation by the shoppers. They contributed their success to their

enthusiasm and, of course, their singing efforts. Great job by all that participated.

K-Kids Make Thanksgiving Baskets for the Needy

Contributed by Mary Luciano

Kiwanis Club of Lincoln Foothills and K-Kids from Carlin C. Coppin Elementary School, team to provide

Thanksgiving Food Baskets.

Our K-Kids Club and our Kiwanians were busy in the month of November collecting food for those less fortunate.

Forty Baskets of non-perishables and turkeys were given to 40 families in our Lincoln Community.

Boxes were gathered to put all the non-perishable items. K-Kids decorated the boxes with leaves and a Happy

Thanksgiving Sign on each box.

With the boxes decorated, all the food gathered, and the arrival of turkeys, the K-Kids then put together 20 boxes for

the Salt Mine and 20 boxes for families at the school. Our K-Kids really enjoy doing this community service project.

Check out the pictures.

K-Kids Make Holiday Cards & Sing Carols

Contributed by Mary Luciano

The Kiwanis Club of Lincoln Foothills and Carlin C. Coppin Elementary School K-Kids sang Christmas Carols,

provided Christmas Cards and Cookies to Residents of Summerset Senior Living Facility in Lincoln.

December was a very busy month for our K-Kids Club. K-Kids were busy making Christmas Cards, writing inside

each card with messages and practicing Christmas Carols. On December 12th, our K-Kids performed five Christmas

Carols. K-Kids were festive in their Reindeer Antlers and Christmas Bells. Check out the pictures. The residents of

Summerset were all smiles watching the K-Kids sing songs. They were mighty cute!

After singing, K-Kids handed out their hand-made Christmas Cards and Cookies the Kiwanis Club of Lincoln

Foothills made for the residents. You could see the smiles on their faces when they read the cards.

Special thanks to all the Kiwanians who made Cookies and those who attended the event.

Holiday Party

Contributed by Beth Roberts

December was a busy month for the BUGs (Homework Club) Team. Of course, as usual, we helped 13 wonderful

children with their homework. This includes some new math that can at times boggle the not under 25 mind as well

as listening to loads and loads of books and stories being read. It's particularly gratifying. to see the children use the

Google Chrome Books that our club provided.

As we did in previous years we finished off 2017 with a fun Holiday Party. Each child started by making their own

individual gingerbread house. We may have a couple of budding architects in our group - some of those houses were

pretty cute. Then we played a variety of games and each child got their own Christmas Stocking. We finished off with

Santa Cupcakes and Juice. The room was filled with laughter and smiles the entire 1 1/2 hours.

Finally, the BUGs Team took on a special Christmas Project and adopted two of our families. We collected money

from our team members, families and friends and were able to buy each child one or two outfits, new socks and

underwear and two or three toys. We then celebrated ourselves with a wrapping party and delivered the gifts after the

holiday party for all the children.

I think I can speak for the whole BUGs Team that we are so lucky to be able to work with these children and help their

families. Making a difference in even one child’s life makes it all worth it and I know we can see the difference we're

making in many more than one.
