No idea is too small or large. Please feel free to contact me by email at [email protected]. All suggestions will be given timely and careful consideration. Also as we start the new year we have many committee positions open for the coming year. If you have a special area of interest we welcome your input and expertise. Like any organization the more you put into the group the more satisfaction you receive from participation

On June 10th a group of 10 members and spouses prepared and served lunch at the Cathedral of Assumption soup kitchen. It's these types of acts that define us as Knights, we live our principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism.

Check out our Facebook page and the web site for photos of members in action at the Derby Charity Banquet and the soup kitchen food preparation.

As I mentioned in the last newsletter we have lost contact with a number of Knights. If you have any contact information on any of the following individuals please send information either to the Council phone or my phone, 502-432-9696. The next group is Robert A Chandler, John R Chaney, Mathew B Chilko, David N Clark, Hugh M Clines, Thomas L Coomes III, Charles S Crapanzano, Mark E Crush, Charles F Darst Jr, James E Davis, John A De Camillis, Dennis L Doerr, Stephen R Donoghue, David C Dudley.

I would like to remind all our members that our hall is available for catering at very competitive rates. This includes family reunions, birthdays, anniversaries, wedding receptions, or any business meeting that you may have. For more information, please contact the council at (502) 893-2220. REMEMBER THIS IS YOUR COUNCIL, USE IT!

Vivat Jesus, Rick

Greetings Brother Knights,

Our next regular meeting is July 5th. At this time we will have a 1st Degree Exemplification for two new members, Jeffrey Daiber and Larry Bergaminide. The Exemplification will start at 6:30 with the regular meeting starting the normal time of 7:30. All members are welcome to come and observe the ceremony and greet our new members.

Congratulations to officers for the coming year; Rick Ratterman as Grand Knight, Ed Knabel as Deputy Grand Knight, Joe Lauer as Chancellor, Kevin McGrath as Recorder, Joe Paul as Treasurer, Alan Crosby as Advocate, Dennis Bosse as Warden, Jim French as Inside Guard, Steve Oswald as Outside Guard, John Aubrey as One Year Trustee, Dennis Wine as Two Year Trustee, and Greg Johnson as Three Year Trustee.

The Fourth Degree meeting for July 12th has been cancelled to accommodate the 2017-2018 Officer Installation and Dinner. The cost is $6.00 per person and reservations for this dinner must be made by Monday, July 10th by calling the Council at 893-2220, or by signing the sheet at the back of the dining hall. Social hour starts at 6:00 pm, dinner at 7:00 pm with a short ceremony to follow. Please join us for a fun evening and to show your support for our officers.

Thank you to all who participated at the Father's Day Buffet which was held June 18th. It was another big success thanks to our expert kitchen staff! Thank you Ron.

What activities would you like to have at your council?

CLUBHOUSE — I am very happy to report that the new AC equipment is on site and the condenser has been put in place outside. As I write this, the air handling unit is sitting on the front porch waiting for us to move it to the second floor, where it will take the place of the brown unit by the fire escape door. It took three weeks longer than anticipated for the equipment to arrive at K of C, but we are making progress. Special thanks to Tony Kayrouz for the help he provided with the condenser unit.

I am very cautious about telling everyone when both pieces will be hooked up and the cool air flowing, but I assure you we are working on it.

Normally our business is slower in June, July and August as far as receptions and special dinners and that is running true this summer.

As we normally do, the kitchen will be closed from Saturday July 1st and re-open for Friday dinner, July 7th. By doing this the Chef and kitchen help get sometime during the 4th of July holiday to have some personal time and catch their breath.

POOL/PARK — As I write this on the 18th, the plumbing work that had to be done in the pump room of the pool has been completed and we plan to start filling the pool late tonight, Sunday. THE CRITICAL ISSUE IS THAT WE STILL DO NOT HAVE A LIFEGUARD OR GUARDS. I really appreciate everyone who has and still is working on this issue. I have another number to call in the morning that is supposed to be someone interested in the job. Special thanks to Jody Codispoti for a donation of piece of equipment for concession stand.

BOAT DOCKS/HURRICANE DECK — Our boat club had a very good and enjoyable Mass, Boat Blessing (Father Hackett) and cookout on Saturday evening and they provided the First Mates Appreciation Breakfast Sunday morning. We had a good group for both events.

We still have some repair work to do on the docks but most of our summer boats are here. We still have our serious need for driving some pilings (t-poles) but even that is looking a little more encouraging than it has in the past few years.

CHARITY PROJECT UPDATES — If you have brought your aluminum cans to the clubhouse and took them to the dumpster behind our clubhouse you have noticed we have a LOT of cans. First week in July, I anticipate having them picked up for River Metals. Now would be a good time to bring any cans you have at home or business place.

The Hurricane Deck has tables in place and you are most welcome to enjoy the view of the river from the deck. Just make sure you take care of any garbage or aluminum cans you may have when you leave.

Update Your BeneficiariesSometimes it is easy to overlook the simplest of things.Take, for example, the beneficiaries on your life insurance policies. If your policy was applied for and issued several years ago, it may very well be that the person you originally selected as the beneficiary is no longer the person you would want to receive the policy proceeds. If you bought the policy when you were single, for example, you may have named your parents as beneficiaries. If you have since married, your policies should be updated to reflect your spouse as benefi-ciary. Maybe you've had children since, who are not named on the policies. Most people list a primary beneficiary, who is specifically designated as the first in priority to receive policy proceeds. We also encourage the naming of a contingent beneficiary, an alternate person designated to receive policy proceeds, usually in the event that the original beneficiary pre-deceases the insured.I routinely call all of my policyholders for annual review ap-pointments, usually near the anniversary date of your policy — that is, the date it was originally issued. One of the mat-ters that I'll discuss during this review is the status of your beneficiary designations. If they need updating, and they often do, I can complete the paperwork during that appoint-ment.I look forward to meeting with each of you to discuss your family's current needs and long term security.Dwight Frank, Field Agent Knights of Columbus 502-802-8490 [email protected]

With the coming Fourth of July, let us stop and think about principles on which our great country was founded. It is easy to look around and see what is broken and how society is in a constant flux and tur-moil. Let us look past that on this com-ing holiday and reflect on what is good, and give thanks for our lives and all the

freedoms we have. Remember "One Nation, Under GOD, Indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for All".

At the last meeting, our 4th Degree assembly started an Annual Patriotic Flag Award. The award will acknowledge one recipient annually (either residential or commercial) that flies the American flag in such a dignified and patriotic manner that it generates national pride for all who view it. Any Sir Knight can make such a nomination by just tak-ing a picture and include the name and address of the flag location and a few words why the flag display is so spe-cial. Send it to me, the Faithful Navigator, Joe Ledweg via either Email: [email protected], or text message to: (502)291-7093, or just leave it at the clubhouse: Attn: 4th Degree. A committee will make the selection and do an award presentation by August 2017 of this year and around Flag Day, June 14 on all following years.

For any 3rd Degree Knight who may be considering to as-cend to the Patriotic 4th Degree, the next Exemplification is July 22 in Bowling Green, KY. After that, the next one is in Lexington, KY on October 14. There will probably be a local Exemplification in Louisville around February 2018. We are always looking for a few good men. If I can ever be of ser-vice in anyone becoming a "Sir Knight" please let me know.

Many thanks to Lady Karen Segars for suppling our de-licious dessert at the June meeting. Also thanks to Sir Knight Rick Ratterman for volunteering to supply the up-coming August meal. We will have no 4th Degree meeting on Wednesday, July 12 due to the 3rd and 4th Degree Of-ficers Induction Dinner that night. Dinner is $6 per person. Call in your reservation numbers to (502)893-2220. Our next normal assembly meeting will be August 9 at 7:00 m. We are planning on having our annual "Picnic in the Park" on September13, 2017. All KofC members and their fami-lies are invited. Meat and drinks are supplied, we just ask you to bring a covered side dish or dessert to share. Please come out and join us. See what the 4th degree is all about, the fun we have, and feel the camaraderie we all share.

Hello to all the Columbia Ladies from California, on a trip of a lifetime for me. I want to thank Becky Bosse for stand-ing in for me at the June 7th installation of officers meeting and for all her hard work for the past three years as Presi-dent. Linda Cissna swore in the new term of officers with Nancy Szotak as Vice-President, Brenda Miller as Record-ing Secretary, Linda Knabel as Corresponding Secretary, and Petey Tapp as Treasurer.

I will be back for the July 5th meeting. Bobbie Aubrey will finish with her great “ghost writings” of the Columbia Ca-pers article............Marie

Well, she may be in California but I bet our temperatures are hotter than theirs! Be safe, Ms. President, we’ll see you soon.

At the last meeting, Mary Wagner won split the pot, Bren-da Johnson’s ticket was drawn for the consolation prize and Betty Knabel won the door prize, a neat-burning candle. Attendance prize name drawn was Margaret Fries who was not in attendance so next month it will be $10.00. Remember dues paid, you are at the meeting, your name drawn, you win the money in the pot!!

Columbia Capersby Marie Wine & the "ghost writer" Bobbie Aubrey

One of our members, Sandy Fowler, passed away in late May. Our sympathies go out to her family. Please remem-ber all in your prayers. Fran Singhiser reported Val Jean Krish, Cookie Collins, Frankie Krish, and Bob & Joann Bishop are all at Oaklawn assisted living. Nice to have your friends to be with you if you have to leave home. You can visit, send cards, etc. All are members of our council.

We will have a meeting July 5th even though the kitchen will be closed July 1st thru July 6th to give the staff some time off. Brenda Johnson will bring the “treats” and our new president will be there.

Birthdays for July: Linda Fett, Martha Higgs, Cathy Mc-Gaughey

Happy Birthday to all!

See you at the meeting July 5th.
