Three Things from the Office of Events Coordinator:

1. Today, Wednesday, December 13th is the LAST day to buy one of our SHCS Knight Logo Popsocket for just $5.00!!!! This half-price deal ends today at 3:00pm.

2. The 22nd Auction “Disco Knight” will be on Saturday, March 3, 2018 from 5:00-10:00 pm. Parents, grandparents, pa-rishioners, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends are invited to join us for an evening of celebration. The auction is our school’s largest community-building and fundraising event. Funds raised at the auction directly benefit our students and their extraordinary teachers, sup-port our school’s operating expenses, and provide classroom supplies, tech-nology, and materials.

3. I really hope that each of our SHCS parents either attends the event or volunteer that night. We can use a variety of talents and skill levels. Go to Vol Spot to sign up in the many volunteer spots for the auction…on the weekends, during the week, at the event and more!

4. Teddy Bear Raffle: the large, adora-bly soft 53inch Teddy Bear is going home with one lucky student this Fri-day, December 15th. Tickets are 2 for $1 or 25 tickets for $10.

PRINCIPAL’S CORNER

Dear Knights,

Wow! It’s almost Christmas! The students are very excited about the upcoming Christmas break and Christmas day. We love hearing what their Christmas wishes! The greatest thing to hear is when they follow up those wishes with a conversation about the true meaning of Christ-mas. It’s a beautiful thing to hear children truly understand the reason for the season.

This past week SHCS delivered the shoebox gifts to the Family Nurturing Center and St. Vincent de Paul. Both we very grateful for the gifts and said that they would bring joy to all those we helped. One person even said, “Thank you Sacred Heart, not just for the gifts, but for instilling in your students the value of helping others.” I am so proud to be a part of this amaz-ing SHCS community. Way to go Knights!

This week our students performed their Christ-mas musicals. Great job students, you did an excellent job!

SANTA’S VISIT

The PS-third graders were treated to a festive

visit from Santa yesterday. They all got to per-

sonally talk to Santa and were given candy

canes. Thank you Santa, for taking time out of

your busy schedule to visit SHCS.

LAS POSADAS School Wide Celebration

Friday, Dec. 15, 2017 One of the most im-

portant traditions of Christmas in Mexico

is the tradition of Las Posadas. “Posada” in Spanish means lodging or shelter. The celebra-tion is a festive homage to Mary and Joseph’s journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem in search for shelter Las Posadas is an important Mexi-can tradition and is celebrated every day for 9 days. The celebration begins on Dec. 16 and is

celebrated every day until Christmas Eve. Each evening there is a procession through the neighborhood, complete with angels, Mary and Joseph, reenacting the search for a place to

stay. The procession ends at a different desig-nated house each evening where friends and

family gather for food and drink and

celebration. Sacred Heart will be doing our own annual Las Po-

sadas celebration this Friday, Dec. 15 starting at 1:30 PM. 8th graders Katie Erno and

Gavin Bergen playing Mary and Joseph fol-lowed by the entire Middle School. They will start at the first grade class. When they are turned away from the “inn”, the first grade

class will join them and they proceed through each classroom, ending with the whole school trailing the Middle School students while sing-ing the Las Posadas song. The students will fin-

ish in the Spanish room where we will pray and sing before heading off to their classrooms.

THERE IS BAND THIS

FRIDAY! Mrs. Gibson is planning on band rehearsal before and after school

on Friday.

SHOW CHOIR Starting in January, during the first week of school Mrs. Gibson will be letting new members join the Show Choir. ONLY FOR ONE WEEK! The show choir rehearses Monday and Friday during lunch and Wednesday morning at 7:15.

OPEN GYM NEXT WEEK

Next week there will be open gym for

girls basketball. It is scheduled for

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday

(Dec.18-20)from 4:30- 6 pm. All girls who

are interested are invited to attend. If you have any

LOST AND FOUND

The Lost and Found is overflowing

again. There are lots of nice jackets,

vest, shirts and several water bottles.

All this will be going to St. Vincent de

Paul during Christmas break so if your

child is missing anything, please claim it by Friday.!

The Parents Prayer Group will meet this Friday at

7:45 AM in the Development Room because the

STEM room is being used for the Bookfair.

Alumni Update

Ryan Butler

Ryan graduated from SHCS in 2005, received his undergrad in 2014 and graduated from the University of Idaho Spring 2016 with a

Masters in Human Factors Psychology. He worked in the medical field for a year and a half, managing 2 drug addiction therapy clinics

and a toxicology laboratory, as well as running an insurance contracting team.

He currently work for Brothers Trucking as their Logistics and IT guy and he’s a local 3gun and USPSA competitor, as well as a

certified NRA Basic Pistol Instructor.

Emily Awbrey

Since starting her sophomore year at St. Mary’s, Emily continues dancing with Fusion, training 20-25 hours a week. She started playing

volleyball this year and is now spending hours rehearsing for the Nutcracker for Stillpoint Dance in Grants Pass. After the first of the

year, her competition and convention season will begin where she will travel nearly every weekend for seven months, starting January

4th in Kansas City, MO. Last year she won Miss Rogue Valley Outstanding Teen and she continues to make appearances for that. Wow!

Performances of Nutcracker are this weekend at the Grants Pass Performing Arts Center if anyone is interested in attending. Way to go,

Lily Jantzer

Alumni Lily Jantzer graduated from Army Basic Training and AIT (Combat Engineer training) on December 8, 2017 as part of the 31st

Engineer Battalion at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Lily held several leadership roles such as Platoon Guide and Squad Leader. Lily received

the prestigious Trailblazer Award which is given to the soldier "who not only demonstrated excellence in technical and tactical aspects of

training, but stood apart from their peers in leadership ability, motivation, discipline, and teamwork." Lily will now be serving in the Ore-

gon National Guard and attending Southern Oregon University.

Alissa Larson

Alissa graduated in 2013 and is currently studying theater at Southern Oregon University and teaching children’s theater at Oregon

Conservatory of Performing Arts. She is also a talented singer/songwriter.

Megan Sinclair

Megan graduated in 2004 and then graduated from St. John’s University in Queens, NY in 2008 with a degree in Criminal Justice . She

has worked at different jobs including activities director at a local retirement home and Community Service Officer with Medford PD.

She recently graduated from the SF Police Academy after 8 1/2 months. Highlights while she was there...being chosen squad leader, in

charge of 12 recruits, lowlights was being tear gassed and pepper sprayed as part of the training. She is currently a SF Pol ice Officer,

completing her 4 months of field training.

Nicholas Erno: Nick graduated from Sacred Heart in 2014 and is currently a senior at Cascade Christian High School. He is planning to attend a trade

school/apprenticeship next year. Nick is currently active in Sacred Heart’s High School youth group and has attended 3 Steubenville

youth conferences. He is also an active Boy Scout working on Eagle Scout project. A busy young man!

Daniel Shenk Daniel graduated in 2014. He is a senior at South Medford High School this year and played for the state championship game a couple

of weeks ago. Daniel's perseverance and hard work paid off this year. He has been the center for South Medford's football team this

year and has had a great season. He's not the biggest guy out there, but he's smart and gives it his all. The state championship was

played at Reser Stadium, “home of the Beavers.” How exciting for a boy who is a Beaver fan. The sports bus was given a police escort to

I-5 on the morning of the game. Pretty exciting stuff. The game was incredibly close, with South ahead most of the game. Unfortunately

there was a fumble in the last few seconds and South lost by one point. What a thrilling experience! Congratulations, Daniel!
