• In small towns and rural areas, most people live in houses. A house usually has more space than an apartment.

• Most people live in houses with yards.

• Population density also affects the kind of work people do. There are more jobs in cities than in rural areas.

• City streets are crowded! It’s hard to have a car in a big city.

• People walk or take buses, taxis, and subways.

• Parking in a big city can be difficult and expensive!

• Driving is much easier. Traffic is not a problem and parking is usually free.

• People living in cities throw away mountains of trash each day.

• Air pollution is a big problem as well.

• In rural areas there are fewer people to cause big pollution problems.

• Air and water are generally cleaner than in cities.

• At night, people can look up and see a million stars.

• In cities people find many things to do close to home.

• Go see a baseball game, go to the zoo, go for a walk, or go on a bike ride.

• A city offers many different things to do rain or shine.

• Many people in rural areas enjoy outdoor activities. Many live close to good places to hike and fish in summer.

• In winter they may go skating or skiing.
