5. Snap the Startup window to the right half of the screen.

6. Click Start , and then click Computer. Snap the Computer window to the left half of thescreen.

7. In the Navigation pane of the Computer window, point to Computer. Drag Computer tothe Startup window folder list. When the message Create link in Startup displays as shownin Figure 2, release the mouse button.

8. Click Start , point to All Programs, and then click Accessories. Right-clickCalculator, and then from the shortcut menu, click Copy.

9. Right-click a blank area in the Startup file list, and then from the shortcut menu,click Paste shortcut.

10. In the Computer window, display your Windows 7 Chapter 9 file list. DragLastname_Firstname_w7_09_Startup to the Startup window file list.

11. In the Startup window, click the View button arrow , and then click Large Icons.Compare your screen with Figure 3.

In this manner, shortcuts to files, folders, and programs are added to the Startup folder.

12. Click Start , click the Shut down button arrow, and then click Restart. Afteryour computer restarts, log on to Windows.

After you log on, Windows Explorer opens the Computer folder window, theCalculator program starts, and the document that you are working on forthis project opens in WordPad.

13. Click Start , and then point to All Programs. Right-click the Startup folder,and then from the shortcut menu, click Open.

14. Snap the Startup window to the right half of the screen, and then compare your screenwith Figure 4.

15. Create a Full-screen Snip, click Copy , and then Close the markup windowwithout saving the changes.

16. Switch to WordPad, click to the right of the date, and then add a new line. Pastethe snip, and then click Save .

17. If you are printing your work, print the WordPad document. Exit WordPad.

18. In the Startup window, right-click Computer - Shortcut, click Delete, and then inthe Delete Shortcut message, click Yes.

19. Repeat the technique just practiced to delete the Calculator and Lastname_Firstname_w7_09_Startup shortcuts.

Sometimes, programs that you do not want to run have shortcuts in theStartup folder. You can stop these programs from starting automatically bydeleting their shortcuts. You should check both the Startup folder for youraccount and the All users Startup folder. To view the startup programs for allusers, right-click the Startup folder, and from the shortcut menu, click Openall users.

20. Close all open windows. Submit the WordPad printout or file as directed byyour instructor.
