PLEASE BRING A DISH TO SHARE The Gareld Park is 1200 E 29th St. Davenport. This is located just North of Bridge and 29th St. The Shelter is located right behind the Collins House. There is plenty of parking lots but could have several ball games at the park too. There is a little handicapped parking right by the Shelter. The Shelter is plenty big, bathrooms are not to far away. Bring a lawn chair if you wish.

Minutes for May Membership Meeting

The meeting was called to order by President Paulline at 1900 hours in the meeting roomat Milestones. Officers present; treasurer Harold Hansen, and secretary John Lavelle. Themembers recited the Pledge of Allegiance and observed a moment of silence for POWMIA's and also for those still serving in harms way. A sheet was passed for members to signand each member stated their attendance. The secretary's report was approved aspublished. At the start of the meeting the members were invited to attend a showing oEscape from Firebase Kate to be shown on the large screen at the Putnam Museum on

Thursday, June 2nd. Edwin Hildebrand received a framed copy of the poster thaannounced the Vietnam Veterans Welcome Home Parade that was held on May 21st inappreciation for all of his dedicated efforts to see that the parade came about. A great jobby Edwin and Also Arthur Heyderman. Harold Hansen presented the treasurer's reportLarry Witt informed the members that we currently have 217 members, 47 Individuamember, 145 Life members, and 25 AVVA members. Members in distress this monthinclude Craig Norris who is having issues with his leg that required a stent to be placedWe learned that Chuck Morrell is recovering from his heart valve surgery at Ft. SnellingVA Hospital. The surgery was a first, as it was done robotically! NAMI walk is set forSeptember 24th and the chapter has made a donation to the group. August 17th through

the 21st, the Traveling Wall will be in Geneseo, Illinois. In this months coin stories welearned that David Woods and Clarke Barnes received recognition awards from theUndersecretary of the Veterans Administration, to whom David Woods presented a chaptercoin. Sonny Kempf meet a vet and gave him a chapter coin. Don Mackey presented one toa brown water Navy veteran, Steve Richter who he also invited to our meeting, and he alsogave one to a man wearing an 11th Brigade boonie hat. Larry Witt presented this year’scholarship at the meeting. This year’s clover sales will take place on Friday, June 24thSaturday, June 25th, and Sunday, June 26th. If you have not signed up there will be onelast chance at the June meeting. Jim Owens asked if anyone has any suggestions for eventsfor the community service committee, he will schedule a meeting in June. We heard fromour VSO that the VA Hospital has new menu books and that Chapter 2 of the DAV as wel

as the American Legion Auxiliary helped to pay for them. Tom Taylor spoke to themembers about a challenge grant to help support the Battleship Iowa, which is in thePacific Battleship Center in Los Angeles. The chapter voted to donate $250 to this causeThe next chapter meeting will be a picnic, the chapter will provide meat and buns, as wellas beverages and condiments. Members are asked to bring a dish to share. The most recenHonor Flight had 2 WWII veterans, 23 Korean War veterans, and 76 Vietnam veteransThe chapter voted to send three members to the VVA Leadership Conference in TucsonArizona. Lyle Peterson reminded members that we will be having our third Car Cruise onJuly 23 and that Don Valley is working hard to get it organized, the rain date is July 30. Wewill need 15 to 20 volunteers to help this be successful again this year. Al LaGrangethanked the chapter for assisting with helping a veteran attend a unit reunion this year. EdGaudet said that there will be a car show in DeWitt on June 7 and also one on July 16 atKregers. We have 4 tickets for the Quad City Air Show and a table to recruit newmembers, Edwin Hildebrand volunteered to man the table at the Air Show. The meetingwas adjourned.
